EastEnders star slams BBC soap actors in savage 'haven't got a clue' swipe
Former EastEnders actor Jamie Foreman, who portrayed Derek Branning, launched a stinging critique of his ex-cast mates, claiming they "wouldn't last two minutes" in varied acting roles. He also shared how an older actress from the BBC's beloved drama agreed with his stern assessment.
Jamie graced Albert Square from November 2011 until December 2012, where his character's scandalous affair with Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace), married to Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), captivated audiences. Derek's tenure ended abruptly with a heart attack in the Christmas Day episode.
Since then, the actor, now 67, has not shied away from expressing his thoughts about fellow performers from the show.
During an appearance on The Lewis Nicholls Show, he said: "The discipline on the set is just... it is just... I was sitting with an older actress on there who is unfortunately not with us any more.
"We are sitting on the set and she lent over to me and she went 'haven't got a f***ing clue have they?' And we are watching all these young (actors) thinking they are the bee's knees, you know."
Jamie continued his pointed remarks noting: "And the discipline, and directors are going (clears throat) and I am sitting there... would not last two minutes outside of here and invariably none of them do."
With a laugh, he wrapped up his musings: "They always end up having to go back so I think I gave a very bad clue there didn't I? I think I have just grassed myself right up on that one."
Jamie, who has graced our screens in Double Decker Driving School and Birds of a Feather, opened up further about his stint on EastEnders, describing it as "just another job" and "far from a highlight" of his acting career.
He revealed that he had been approached "many times" to join the soap but only agreed when they consented to a one-year term.
However, Jamie, whose film credits include Rise of the Footsoldier and Oliver Twist, expressed disappointment with the soap's management, alleging that they "made promises they never kept".
The actor shared the gruelling schedule of once filming up to 36 scenes a day, which "burnt him out", despite assurances that he wouldn't have to work Saturdays, stating: "I did every Saturday. I was the first in, last out every day."
Despite his experiences, he recognised the significance of EastEnders for its audience, acknowledging its "iconic" status and the respect it commands, particularly for the BBC.
Following the release of the podcast on YouTube, viewers shared their thoughts, with one commenting: "Fantastic interview. Jamie Foreman so underrated as an actor."
Another viewer admitted to having preconceptions about Jamie, saying: "I had misconceptions of Jamie, thinking he would be cocky etc. Dignified, lovely man, I absolutely have the utmost respect for Jamie. Beautiful guy."

After all, Mercedes, with Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) and Lindsey Butterfield (Sophie Austin) had murdered Alex's dad, double-murderer Dr Paul Browning, after he kidnapped and attacked his new wife. In fact, the soap teased Alex would seek revenge for his father's death upon arriving. However, he instead gave Cindy's son Hilton (his half-brother) a life-saving transplant, became his godfather, and leaving the village soon after. The new role comes three years after Hannah tied the knot to former The Bill star husband Huw Higginson. Huw is most notable for his ten-year role in The Bill as PC George Garfield. Huw posted a celebratory shot showing their special day in October 2022 as they posed with their son Jack, 11, on a boat in Sydney. The Bill actor gushed in his caption: "Got married to my love yesterday. We had the best of days." Hannah can be seen gazing lovingly at her spouse as they celebrated their special day. She wore a patterned, long-sleeve blue frock - perhaps as her something blue - complete with gold strappy sandals and a navy pashmina. She clutched a bouquet of cream flowers and accessorised with a pair of sunglasses. The happy couple made the move to Australia in 2014. It came after Hannah married fellow EastEnders star Ricky Groves in 2006. Manchester-born Star Wars actor Kevin Colley dies aged 87
Star Wars actor Kenneth Colley has died at the age of 87 after contracting Covid and developing pneumonia, his agent has said. The film and television actor from Manchester is best known for starring in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as Admiral Piett, an imperial officer in command of Darth Vader's flagship. Colley's agent of 10 years, Julian Owen, issued a statement which said that he died 'peacefully' on Monday June 30 in Ashford, Kent. The statement said: 'He had been admitted after a fall with an injured arm, however he quickly contracted Covid which developed into pneumonia. He passed away peacefully with friends at his bedside. 'Ken Colley was one of our finest character actors with a career spanning 60 years. 'Ken continually worked on stage, film and television playing a vast array of characters, from Jesus in Monty Python's Life of Brian to evil and eccentric characters in Ken Russell films, and the Duke of Vienna in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure for the BBC.' In later years he reprised his role of Admiral Piett when he voiced the character in the 2012 animated Lego production, Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out. He also had parts in international productions including Clint Eastwood's Firefox and the Second World War series War and Remembrance. The statement added: 'Ken's favourite part was playing Estragon in the stage production of Beckett's classic Waiting for Godot at the Cockpit Theatre in London in 2014. 'Ken's participation in Star Wars led him to being invited to conventions and official fan events all over the World where he remains one of the best loved actors from the original trilogy.' Ken loved his garden, art collecting and had a passion for fast cars.'Colley is also known for playing Jesus in Monty Python's Life of Brian alongside English actors' John Cleese, Graham Chapman and Michael Palin.

More info BBC Wimbledon presenter Clare Balding was forced to apologise to viewers after the channel lost pictures halfway through Novak Djokovic's clash with Dan Evans on Thursday afternoon. The seven-time Wimbledon champion cruised to victory against his British opponent on Centre Court, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 in a dominant straight sets triumph. The Serbian star will now face compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic in the third round of the men's singles on Friday, with another Grand Slam win in his sights. But while those tuning in on the BBC were treated to watching Djokovic, by his own admission, "at he top of [his] game", they were left fuming as they were forced to miss an entire game towards the end of the second set. As Evans began serving at the start of the seventh game of the set, the BBC's pictures turned away from the action on Centre Court with viewers instead shown a general view of tennis fans milling around the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The pictures then cut out completely, with the screen turning grey and then blue for a few seconds, before cutting to the hundreds of fans assembled on 'Murray Mound' to watch the action. While this was happening, viewers could hear what was going on in the match between Djokovic and Evans, but couldn't see anything as the British star won what would prove to be his fifth and final game of the afternoon. In total, the disruption lasted for nearly three-and-a-half minutes, with fans taking to social media to voice their frustration over the technical glitch. "Thanks for making us miss a whole game of the Djokovic/Evans match during set two," wrote one. "What the hell happened to the on court pictures!? I don't pay my extortionate TV license bill for that!!" Another added: "Anyone watching the monitors? No pictures on BBC1 or BBC2. No apology from commentators." Meanwhile, a third wrote: "Come on BBC, sort your pictures out." After Djokovic claimed the 99th win of his Wimbledon career with a ruthless third set performance, Balding took the opportunity to apologised to viewers for the issues which had occurred nearly 45 minutes earlier. "Apologies for the technical issues we had earlier which meant that you lost pictures for a few moments," said the BBC presenter. "[It is] just beyond our control, but we're trying to fix it and it does at least mean we can continue to show you live tennis, and we will certainly do that." Speaking after his victory, Djokovic said: "A Brit in Britain is never easy to face. He is… 'tricky' is not a great word but he is a good quality player that possesses a lot of talent, a great touch. "He can cause you trouble if you are not on top of your game, which I think I was from the very beginning. I knew I was preparing well. I knew what I needed to do and executed perfectly." As his self-confidence drew laughter from the crowd, he added: "That was not for me, it was for my coach! I was just sending him a message in case he didn't see it well."
