Asylum hotel data to be shared with food delivery firms in bid to stop illegal working
A new agreement with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats will see information about high-risk areas shared to help them uncover abuse on their platforms and quickly suspend accounts.
Currently delivery riders discovered to be sharing their accounts with asylum seekers have their profiles suspended.
The latest measures hope to crack down further on the practice.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: 'Illegal working undermines honest business, exploits vulnerable individuals and fuels organised immigration crime.
'By enhancing our data sharing with delivery companies, we are taking decisive action to close loopholes and increase enforcement.
'The changes come alongside a 50% increase in raids and arrests for illegal working under the Plan for Change, greater security measures and tough new legislation.'
The Home Office added that the gig economy firms have also been increasing real-time identity and right to work checks which has led to thousands of workers being taken off the platforms.
Shadow home secretary Chris Philp claimed last month to have found evidence of people working illegally for the food delivery firms during a visit to a hotel used to house asylum seekers.
Asylum seekers in the UK are normally barred from work while their claim is being processed, though permission can be applied for after a year of waiting.
Delivery firms met Home Office bosses earlier this month to discuss the concerns of abuse in the sector.
The three delivery companies said they were fully committed to working with the Home Office and combatting illegal working.
Ministers promised a 'nationwide blitz' to target migrants working illegally as part of efforts to deter people from coming to the UK from France.
Officials hope to tackle the 'pull factors' attracting migrants to the UK alongside the deal struck by Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month to send some people who reach England in small boats back to France.
More than 23,500 migrants have arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel so far in 2025, a record for this point in the year.

A 37-year-old lorry driver, who was set to pocket €25,000 for smuggling a six-year-old girl into the UK, has been jailed. Polish national Dawid Flis, 37, was arrested by the National Crime Agency after arriving into the Port of Killingholme in North Lincolnshire in his HGV on March 23. He had travelled from the Hook of Holland, a village in the Netherlands, with an Albanian woman and a child hidden in the bunk area of the driver's cab. After the lorry was searched by Border Force, the two were found, with the woman later telling investigators she had agreed to pay Flis €25,000 to be brought to the UK. She revealed they had arranged to meet at the roadside in Holland, where he had let them both into the cab. The woman had already paid €12,500 to date On June 20, Flis pleaded guilty to facilitating illegal immigration at Grimsby Crown Court. Today, he was sentenced at the same court to four years in prison, and will be deported after his time behind bars. NCA Branch Commander Sara Moore said: 'Dawid Flis abused his position as a lorry driver to attempt to smuggle a woman and child into the UK. 'Tackling organised immigration crime is a priority for the NCA and we will continue in our pursuit of individuals who are involved in this criminality at every step of the chain.' One man arrested as part of the same incident has been extradited to Italy, while a second remains on bail.

Liverpool have confirmed the £79million signing of striker Hugo Ekitike. The Eintracht Frankfurt No 9 is expected to join up with the squad in Hong Kong in the next 48 hours for training sessions but is unlikely to play in Saturday's fixture against AC Milan. Ekitike, 23, joins on a six-year contract and has been on Liverpool's radar for some years, with Mail Sport first revealing in March that he was a top target. Liverpool have been in contact with Ekitike since January and Arne Slot informed the Frenchman of his intention to sign him at the end of the season just gone. The Reds' data tests showed that no one other than Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe scored higher in their data tests for No 9s. Slot's men do see him as a central striker but acknowledge that he can play off the wings too. The package is a £69m base fee plus £10m in add-ons which are based on team and player performance. The Frenchman has joined on a six-year deal and underwent his medical on Tuesday.
