Cyberpunk 2077 fans think new update secretly runs better on PS5 Pro

This week's update for Cyberpunk 2077 has added new content, bug fixes, and possibly performance improvements on the PS5 Pro. It seems CD Projekt can't quite let Cyberpunk 2077 go, despite shifting its focus to both the game's sequel – currently only known as Cyberpunk 2 – and The Witcher 4. The rather meaty 2.2 patch, that was released in December 2024, was assumed to be the last one for the game, but not only did CD Projekt subsequently announce a Nintendo Switch 2 port, as a launch title for the console, it also confirmed yet another update was on the way. This new update, known as patch 2.3, went live on Thursday across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (the Switch 2 will get it at a later date) and comes with a sizeable list of changes. However, some fans think the patch has also secretly made the game run better on PS5 Pro. As a reminder, the PS5 Pro is, in layman's terms, an even more powerful version of the PlayStation 5, with some games receiving dedicated enhancements when running on it, such as being able to support ray-tracing at 60 frames per second. Cyberpunk 2077, however, is not among the games specifically enhanced for the PS5 Pro and there's no mention in the official 2.3 patch notes of any adjustments being made to how the game runs on the console. What it does mention is that Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support has been added to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, meaning you can enjoy even smoother visuals so long as you have the appropriate monitor. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Over on the PS5 Pro subreddit, fans are discussing whether or not things have been taken even further on the more powerful console. Redditor N7KaranN7 claims the update has unlocked Cyberpunk 2077's frame rate for VRR displays, claiming that even the Pro's ray-tracing mode (where frame rate is sacrificed for graphical quality) is now capable of running at 40fps. Others, such as gamer0613 and Neveran8th, claim to have corroborated this, suggesting that quality mode can now go above 60fps. Another fan, TheJTizzle, also posted footage of some very smooth looking gameplay, before opening the settings menu to show ray-tracing mode was still on. Some aren't so sure though. GamePitt_Rob, for instance, contests the idea that the frame rate has been doubled and instead argues that it's reaching 40fps. But even if ray-tracing mode has only been bumped up to 40fps, that's still a decent improvement to the game's performance. More Trending Although you could say these arguments about whether Cyberpunk 2077 is hitting 40 or 60fps goes to show how indiscernible game performance becomes at higher frame rates, at least visually. Performance tweaks aren't all the new patch has changed, though. Four new side jobs have been added and completing each of them unlocks a new vehicle to drive. There's also a new auto drive feature and cab system, so you don't need to drive yourself to your next destination, as well as new photo mode features and various bug fixes. This may be the last major update to Cyberpunk 2077, but we've thought that before and CD Projekt has never been specific about their plans or denied that a 2.4 update is possible at some point. 'Lightweight and responsive' Turtle Beach Xbox controller now £40 off on Amazon

"Excellent controller, loving the mouse click buttons, feels nice to hold, not too heavy." Gamers looking to upgrade their Xbox controller are in luck, as a high-tech option from Turtle Beach is currently on a generous offer on Amazon. The rapid-charging controller is currently £40 off on the retailer's website. The Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Wireless High Performance Gaming Controller usually retails at a steep £179, but gamers can currently snatch it up at a 23 per cent discount, with the top-rated controller now costing a more reasonable £139. The Turtle Beach remote is compatible with the Xbox Series X or S, Xbox One and Windows 10 or 11 PCs, and it has been officially licensed for use with Xbox consoles. Turtle Beach's Stealth Pivot edition of the controller, which is specifically made for use with Windows 10 or 11 PCs, but not Xbox, is even cheaper, now on offer for just £94. Those who only game on their PC may opt for this option. The Stealth Ultra wireless controller for Xbox features lag-free technology to connect to Xbox consoles, or it can connect to Windows 10 or 11 PCs by plugging the transmitter into the device or charging dock. With built-in Bluetooth technology, players can also elevate their gaming experience by connecting to Android mobile devices and supported Smart TVs. Unlike any other Xbox controller, the Turtle Beach remote comes complete with a high-colour dashboard screen on its face, which can deliver social media notifications directly to the remote or be used to adjust its settings. Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra Wireless High Performance Gaming Controller £179 £139 Amazon Shop Product Description Button mapping, dead zones, axis response modes, vibration intensity, audio enhancements, and RGB lighting can all be tailored to the gamer's requirements, and users can also download an app available on iPhone and Android that can be used to adjust the settings. The controller also claims to have an extensive battery life of 30 hours and it can be recharged rapidly through its charging dock. Users can also modify the throw distance of the triggers on the remote to suit different games. Those browsing other wireless Xbox remotes may opt for the more basic, but cheaper Official Xbox Series X/S Wireless Controller on Argos for £49.99. Argos also offers the controller with a one-month Game Pass for £74.99. But customers love the high-tech Turtle Beach controller, which has some glowing reviews. One happy customer said: "I was dubious at first, but I plumped for this controller over another 'Elite' Microsoft controller as I've had two of them so far and the right shoulder button has "gone" on both of them! "Been going a few months on this now, mostly playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which is intensive on that top right shoulder button since it's the main attack one! Still going strong and cracking heads with it. "The controller sits nicely in the hands, the buttons are slightly out from the standard controller but you get used to it very quickly. It's very responsive and it looks good too, what with all the LED lighting and so on." Another five-star reviewer added: "After having two official 'Elite' controllers, I was reluctant to buy another expensive controller. I watched a few reviews and took a gamble on the turtle beach. "Happy to say glad I did. Great controller. Feels good in the hand. Great build quality and really good responsive controller. Hugely customisable and worth the expense if you can afford it." However, the user did express concerns about the battery life, saying: "Only thing that's a very minor downside is the battery life. Don't get me wrong, it's fine, but if you have all the lights, screen, rumble etc on you will NOT get 30hrs of battery life." One less-than-impressed customer wrote: "Ended up returning the controller as it persistently disconnected while playing and needed a full reset before you could reconnect. Really frustrating experience. Battery life was also terrible and could run out in a single gaming session." And someone else did say that the app too connect the controller to the Xbox was "overly complex and hard to navigate". However, they did also say that once they became familiar with it, the controller had "a very user-friendly interface" and added: "Although it is lightweight, it feels solid. And another satisfied shopper said: "Excellent controller, loving the mouse click buttons, feels nice to hold, not too heavy, battery life could be better but that's just due to the LED lights which can be turned off with ease, fully customisable, Hall effect joysticks, all round pretty decent controller." The Turtle beach controller can be purchased on Amazon. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.
