Impersonation Incident: Perlis Health Dept Tightens Security At All Facilities
State Health director Dr Ghazali Chik said health facilities in Perlis comprise 13 health and 27 rural clinics, as well as Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) here.
Speaking to reporters after the opening of the State Legislative Assembly by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, he emphasised the importance of closely monitoring any suspicious activity.
Last night, Bernama reported that the Perlis Health Department confirmed that a 22-year-old man impersonated an assistant medical officer (PPP) at the HTF compound on April 8, with the incident going viral on TikTok on April 20.
Kangar police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed that a report on the incident was received on April 9 and the case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code.
Elaborating, Dr Ghazali said the impersonator was detected early within the HTF compound and, as such, the man did not enter the hospital premises or meet with any patients.
"To my knowledge, this is the first case (involving impersonation). Our records do not indicate any similar cases in the past at the HTF or within our clinic network," he said.
In a separate matter, Dr Ghazali confirmed that a Form Three student is in stable condition and receiving treatment at HTF after experiencing seizures believed to have been triggered by vaping.
"I have not yet received the full report. The student remains in the ward and is stable," he said.

TOKYO: (Bernama-Kyodo) The Japanese government discarded Covid-19 oral medicines believed to be worth around 240 billion yen (US$1.6 billion) in the fiscal year through March as they had passed their expiry dates, Kyodo News Agency reported, citing health ministry officials on Wednesday (July 16). While the exact purchase price remains unclear, the value was calculated in accordance with current prices. The amount is enough to treat some 2.5 million people. The government acquired the oral drugs at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and provided them free of charge to hospitals and clinics nationwide. But many of them were unused after Covid-19 was downgraded to the same category as seasonal influenza in May 2023, which required people to pay for Covid-19 treatment. Drugmakers had also started general distribution of Covid-19 medicine in Japan themselves. A Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare official said offering the drugs to other countries was considered but legally difficult. Among the two million doses of Pfizer Inc.'s nirmatrelvir and 1.6 million doses of Merck & Co.'s molnupiravir procured by the government, about 1.75 million doses of nirmatrelvir and some 780,000 doses of molnupiravir were disposed of, according to the ministry. The government also secured two million doses of Shionogi & Co.'s ensitrelvir but about 1.77 million of them are unused, the ministry said. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : About 20% of 600 medical officers who have applied to be transferred out from Sabah and Sarawak will have to 'bite the bullet' and stay put for now, says health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad. Dzulkefly said the ministry was reviewing the transfer requests but could ot accommodate every application without affecting health services in East Malaysia, which face a critical shortage of manpower. About 20% would not have their applications approved, he said. 'I know it's not ideal, but I've seen many specialists in Sabah who initially didn't want to go there. Now it's their 10th year and counting,' he told reporters today after launching a book on the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects on Malaysia. Dzulkefly said not all placements can rely on arrangements for mutual transfers. On Thursday, the Dewan Rakyat was told there were 650 vacancies for permanent posts in Sarawak, but only seven medical officers have opted to take up these posts. Dzulkefly encouraged doctors, especially those posted as couples, to consider the long-term benefits of serving in East Malaysia. Asked what steps the ministry was taking to solve the high number of transfer requests, the minister said Putrajaya was exploring offering better incentive schemes to retain doctors in Sabah and Sarawak. 'We are trying to see what other incentives can be offered. We know this is an issue we can't completely avoid, but we will do our level best to manage it.' No queue jumping in Rakan KKM Dzulkefly gave an assurance there would be no queue jumping in the Rakan KKM programme, which offers 'premium economy' services at selected public hospitals. Under the programme, specialists can offer paid elective services, with the income reinvested to improve the health service. 'This isn't about jumping queues for emergency cases. It's about giving people an option for elective procedures while retaining top talent,' he said. He said a briefing on the programme would be held as some information on the initiative had been misinterpreted. Two weeks ago, the Malaysian Medical Association had questioned if wealthier patients would get faster access to health services, and urged the ministry to clarify the programme and if it would strain an already overstretched health service.
