ANC taking DA threats to collapse GNU seriously

eNCAa day ago

JOHANNESBURG - ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says President Cyril Ramaphosa declined to travel, potentially anticipating that the DA would announce their departure from the GNU.
He says they're taking the DA threats to collapse the GNU, seriously.
The DA chose to remain in the Government of National Unity but it has withdrawn from the National Dialogue – dismissing it as a waste of time.
DA federal chair, Helen Zille, said the party 'will not be messed around' with and warning that the DA has the numbers to bring government to its knees if necessary.
This followed after Ramaphosa fired Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Andrew Whitfield of the DA.
Whitfield was removed for travelling to the US as part of a DA delegation even though the president had warned against it. The group met with US lawmakers and representatives of the Trump administration in March.

City's Sheriff responds to assassination claims by NCC leader Fadiel Adams

Fadiel Adams, leader of the National Coloured Congress, claims a conspiracy involving DA's JP Smith. Image: File Hours after National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader Fadiel Adams took to social media and hosted a press conference on claims that there was a plot allegedly conspired by mayco member for Safety and Security JP Smith to assassinate him, the City's Sheriff said Smith has already approached his lawyer to open a civil and criminal case against Adams. 'He has approached his lawyer to initiate a civil and criminal case against Fadiel,' said the City on Monday via Smith. The Cape Argus approached the City for comment on the allegations made in the press conference. Adams went live on his Facebook page on Sunday where he claimed the DA ward councillor in Manenberg, Deidree de Vos, had allegedly warned him that there was a conspiracy to kill him. In a press statement released on Friday, Adams said the plot was reported to police weeks ago and he handed all evidence to them. Via his live post, he further claimed he had a recording of De Vos disclosing information to him and on Monday during the press conference held at Parliament, he played it for the media present. Adams also said he placed his family at a safehouse and that he was being targeted because he was rooting out corruption such as tender fraud and links to gangs. Video Player is loading. 'The person on the other end of the line was a senior member of the Democratic Alliance and I am not happy about what I am about to do, but I do value my family more than my friends. 'The caller claimed that one JP Smith, mayco for Safety and Security, had deployed a new councillor in Manenberg, Deidree de Vos, she had been sent to approach a man named Faiek Moses. Faiek Moses was once upon a time a notorious member of the Hard Livings gang and as far as I know, he has turned his life around and he is a working man. 'He has small contracts and sub contracts in the Manenberg area and Deidree de Vos was told to tell him that JP Smith was about to terminate his membership as a DA member and his contract opportunities.' He said there was also a WhatsApp message from mayco member for Human Settlements, Carl Pophaim. 'They want Faiek to take Fadiel out,' the message said, as Adams read it out. 'They want Faiek to act like a gangster because I am threatening his income,' said Adams. Police have since said they are unable to comment on the matter. De Vos has also remained silent with a media response. Pophaim did not respond to Cape Argus as yet. Smith said it was a plot to slander him. 'It has come to my attention that more misinformation is once again being spread by the NCC and its relevance-starved leader, Fadiel Adams, in an utterly ridiculous attempt to tarnish my reputation, that of the Democratic Alliance, and the City of Cape Town. .'Their latest smear campaign is laughable at best. I strongly deny the allegations and condemn the dissemination of fake news. "I have engaged my lawyers and I will ensure appropriate legal action is taken against this continued slander. DA to lay criminal charges against Nkabane for ‘lying' about Seta board appointments

The DA will lay criminal charges against higher education minister Nobuhle Nkabane over her botched handling of Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta) board chairpersons. The party plans to open a criminal case at the Cape Town Central police station on Tuesday morning ahead of Nkabane's tabling of the department's budget vote in the National Council of Provinces. Nkabane is accused of lying to parliament about the 'independent panel' she claimed had approved politically connected individuals for Seta boards. In the list of panel members, Nkabane falsely claimed legal expert advocate Terry Motau was part of it. She later apologised, saying it was a misunderstanding. She is facing scrutiny and growing calls to resign from MPs and the SA Students Congress. Last week, DA MP Karabo Khakhau wrote an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa urging him to fire Nkabane. 'She [Nkabane] has used a strategy of lying to parliament to try to cover her tracks after she made brazen ANC cadre deployment appointments to the Seta boards,' Khakhau said. 'South Africans were rightfully outraged. Once exposed, and once public pressure mounted, Nkabane made an effective admission of her infringements by withdrawing the appointments. Her ANC cadre deployment had been exposed and roundly criticised and she had to admit defeat.' Ramaphosa recently fired the DA's deputy minister Andrew Whitfield, leading to the party giving him a 48-hour ultimatum to act against corruption-accused ANC ministers such as Nkabane, human settlements minister Thembi Simelane and deputy minister of water and sanitation David Mahlobo. After the expiration of the ultimatum, the DA announced it would withdraw support for the budgets of the ministries and its participation in the national dialogue. The party also said it is considering tabling a motion of no confidence against Ramaphosa.

Malatji laments the actions of ANC members allegedly involved in Magaqa's murder

Questions have been raised about the involvement of ANC politicians in Magaqa's death. Magaqa was shot in July 2017 and succumbed to his injuries after spending time in the hospital. ANC Youth League (ANCYL) president Collen Malatji says he is concerned about the alleged involvement of ANC leaders in the killing of the youth league's former secretary-general, Sindiso Magaqa. Malatji was at the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday, where the court was expected to sentence Sibusiso Ncengwa, one of the hitmen involved in Magaqa's murder. Despite much interest in the matter, the sentencing was postponed. Ncengwa admitted to killing Magaqa in 2017. Malatji told The Citizen that he is concerned that one of the hitmen had indicated that politicians are involved in the death of the former ANC leader. 'The acts of these individuals do not represent what the ANC stands for, which is to build a safe and secure community, where airing out your views about wrongdoing does not lead to you being murdered. 'The implicated individuals in their actions proved that they were not ANC and certainly not leaders, and they must face the harshest sentencing by the court; in fact, they deserve a life sentence, because Cde Sindiso Magaqa will never come back,' he said. Big fish involved Malatji said he believes that there are more serious players behind Magaqa's murder. He said the men who have been arrested for Magaqa's murder are simply hired guns. 'We know that he (Sibusiso) did not work alone; we know that he was a hired gun. The real people we want are those who issued the order that our SG must be killed. ALSO READ: 'Hijacked' by the ANC? Maimane issues National Dialogue warning 'That one there in prison is a small fish; we want the big fish, those ones that worked with everyone and the police to kill our SG,' he said. A former mayor of the uMzimkhulu municipality and a municipal manager had been arrested in connection with Magaqa's murder, but they were later released due to insufficient evidence. Why was Magaqa killed? Meanwhile, Malatji said Magaqa died fighting for the interests of South Africans. This stems from a belief that Magaqa was in possession of a dossier on corrupt activities at the uMzimkhulu municipality, 'We are expecting nothing but a life sentence because that criminal is a murderer. He does not belong among our people; he is an animal that must rot in jail. If there was still that sentence to kill people, then he must be the first to get killed.' He said he was outraged by the manner in which Magaqa was gunned down. 'If we could break the law, we could kill him ourselves, but because we are law-abiding citizens, we are saying that this law must make sure that he rots and dies in jail,' he said. On the other hand, Ncengwa appealed for a lenient sentence in court; one of his reasons for this is that he has apologised to the Magaqa family for their loss. The court also heard that Magaqa's family are still struggling to raise the children he left behind. NOW READ: ANC Youth League SG Sindiso Magaqa's killer pleads guilty
