5 of Delhi family killed in road accident near Bulandshahr
The accident occurred around 5.50am on the Jahangirabad–Bulandshahr Road near the Chandauk crossing, within the jurisdiction of Jahangirabad police station. Police said the CNG-fuelled Maruti Swift hit a culvert, flipped over, and burst into flames—leaving five of the six occupants trapped inside and charred to death.
Only 15-year-old Gulnaz survived. She was rescued by police and fire officials and rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Tanveez Ahmad (26), his wife Nida (21), his sister Momina (24), Momina's husband Zuber Ali (30), and their two-year-old son, Zainul. The family originally hailed from Chamanpura village in Badaun, but had been living in the Hauz Rani area of south Delhi's Malviya Nagar.
Tanveez worked as an AC mechanic for an international brand, while Zuber was a house painter. Both women were homemakers.
Police suspect the driver—believed to be either Tanveez or Zuber—dozed off at the wheel. 'The car lost control, hit a culvert, overturned, and caught fire. Rescue efforts were launched immediately after a passerby alerted us. Unfortunately, five people were declared dead at the hospital,' said Tejveer Singh, superintendent of police (Rural).
Tanveez's father, Tanveer Ahmad, said the family had travelled to Badaun on Saturday for the wedding of his nephew. After attending the function on Monday, some family members returned to Delhi on Tuesday evening. Tanveez and Zuber stayed back and left in the early hours of Wednesday with their wives and the children.
'I returned to Delhi with my friends and some relatives on Tuesday evening. Tanveez and Zuber stayed back as they were travelling together in my son's Swift car along with my two daughters and grandson,' he said.
'My wife and brother had told them to leave after sunrise, but they were in a hurry. They said they'd beat the traffic and make it to work on time,' said Tanveer, who runs a furniture business.
Tanveer was still asleep at their Hauz Rani home when he got a call from an unknown number around 6am. 'It was a passerby who said a girl involved in a road accident had given him my number. It was my daughter, Gulnaz. She could barely speak. Then he told me about the car—it was my son's,' Tanveer said, breaking down.
He immediately called his brother in Badaun and asked him to rush to the spot. 'It was the worst phone call of my life,' he said.

Police verification of staff, reporting out-of-station guests: Hotel security enhanced after arrest of Patna hospital murder accused from Kolkata
In a move to tighten security and enhance vigilance across Kolkata's burgeoning accommodation sector, the Bidhannagar police, under the leadership of DCP Airport, held a crucial meeting on Friday with representatives from hotels, guesthouses, and lodges operating under the Baguiati and airport police stations. The meeting, also attended by ACP Airport and Additional IC Airport police stations, comes in the wake of recent incidents highlighting loopholes in guest verification and security protocols, following the arrest of shooters implicated in the murder of Patna-based gangster Chandan Mishra. To ensure ongoing coordination and prompt communication, a dedicated WhatsApp group is being established, facilitating direct interaction between the police and accommodation providers, revealed officials. The Indian Express had reported how the Patna hospital murder case drew renewed attention to the Shukhobrishti housing complex in New Town, where the vehicle carrying the accused was parked for 40-45 minutes. Sukhobrishti, a massive residential project, has previously been linked to criminal activities, including a police shootout with wanted gangsters in 2021. The Patna shooters had contacted a common contact in Sukhobrishti, and their vehicle was traced, which was parked there for 40-45 minutes, the police had revealed. Authorities had also acknowledged the challenges posed by the sheer size of such complexes, a high proportion of tenants from outside the state, and the common practice of subletting, which complicates thorough background checks. Reporting out-of-state guests and suspicious activities: A critical point of discussion was the immediate reporting of out-of-state guests and any suspicious activities to local police stations to pre-empt potential criminal hideouts and illegal operations. Awareness and prevention of criminal activities: Operators were urged to maintain heightened awareness regarding potential criminal hideouts, cyber frauds, and any channelisation of illegal activities. Strict restrictions on minors without guardians were also reiterated. Enhanced security infrastructure and safety measures: The meeting stressed the mandatory installation and 24/7 operation of CCTV cameras with a minimum 60-day footage retention period. Furthermore, robust fire safety measures, including regular drills and clear evacuation plans, along with the installation of panic buttons and adherence to first aid protocols, were made compulsory. Last Updated: Sunil Yadav was first poisoned and admitted to a hospital, where his condition improved. But his wife, Shashi, allegedly mixed poison in his curd again, after which he died. A disturbing case has come to light from Firozabad's Tundla, where a woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband with the help of her lover. The murder, which was reportedly carried out on the second attempt, brings back memories of the Sonam Raghuvanshi case, where she was accused of killing her husband during their honeymoon after multiple failed attempts. According to a report in Amar Ujala, the latest case came to light after the mother of the deceased, Sunil Yadav, approached the police on July 24. The report mentioned that Sunil's wife, Shashi, and her alleged lover, Yadvendra, have now been arrested for his murder. The duo had reportedly been in a relationship for over a year and allegedly saw Sunil as an obstacle in their way. Poison Ordered Online And Mixed In Curd The report, quoting the police, mentioned that Shashi and Yadvendra planned the murder together. On May 12, Shashi allegedly served poison-filled curd to Sunil, following which his health started to worsen. He was taken to the hospital and later discharged after some improvement. But two days later, on May 14, she reportedly repeated the act. This time, Sunil did not survive. His family performed the last rites as they were unaware of what had happened. It was only after Sunil's mother filed a complaint naming Shashi and her boyfriend that the case reopened. Investigations revealed that the poison had been ordered online with the help of Yadvendra. According to the police, Shashi may have been influenced by the case of Sonam Raghuvanshi. Sonam and her alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, were accused of murdering her husband, Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His killing was reportedly carried out after three failed attempts. In Sunil's case, too, police say it was the second attempt that turned fatal. Police Relying On Other Evidence One of the major challenges in this investigation is the absence of a post-mortem. Since Sunil's family did not suspect foul play at the time, the body was cremated. But the police, as per the report, have collected other evidence such as Sunil's clothes, bedsheets and phone call records to build their case in the court. Sunil and Shashi had been married for 12 years and were parents to two young children: 10-year-old Anshu and 6-year-old Deepanshi.
