New research from IoT Analytics projects that the global market for satellite IoT connectivity and equipment will reach USD $4.7 billion by 2030, with an expected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26% over the forecast period.
The IoT Analytics Satellite IoT Market Report 2025–2030 underpins this analysis, highlighting that the number of satellite IoT connections stood at 7.5 million globally in 2024. This figure is set to increase considerably as technological advances continue to influence the sector and demand for connectivity in remote areas strengthens.
Growth factors
The report identifies five primary drivers behind this projected market expansion. These include ongoing reductions in the cost of satellite technology thanks to technological advancements, the adoption of multi-orbit and hybrid network strategies by providers, the emergence and adoption of standardised connectivity protocols, significant government investments in satellite initiatives and mega-constellations, and the increasing use of satellite connectivity in automotive and transportation industries.
According to IoT Analytics, these factors collectively create an environment in which satellite IoT can play a vital role in global connectivity, especially in regions and industries where traditional wired or cellular solutions are not viable.
Industry context
Satellite IoT currently accounts for just 7.5 million of the 18 billion total IoT devices, but the capabilities it brings to remote and hard-to-reach environments are seen as crucial. Knud Lasse Lueth, Chief Executive Officer at IoT Analytics, commented: 7 million satellite IoT connections may look small next to 18 billion total IoT devices, but they solve the hardest problem in connectivity: Reaching the places where nothing else works. With falling launch costs, open standards and hybrid multi-orbit networks, it has become the final puzzle piece for truly ubiquitous, global connectivity, and we expect the segment to grow 20%+ annually over the next 5-10 years.
The market is undergoing a transformation as proprietary and non-standardised systems give way to open, multi-technology approaches. Satyajit Sinha, Principal Analyst at IoT Analytics, added: The satellite IoT market is evolving from proprietary, non-standardized systems—each tailored to a vendor's own connectivity stack—toward a standardized, multi-technology landscape that includes 3GPP NB-NTN, NR-NTN, LoRaFHSS, and mioty. This shift is drawing in both traditional satellite providers and new players from the cellular and unlicensed LPWAN domains, who are adopting open standards to stay competitive. On the other end, Starlink is accelerating disruption by leveraging its capital scale and low-cost architecture to position itself as both a satellite backhaul provider and a direct IoT connectivity vendor. The result is a more competitive market—defined by open, hybrid architectures where interoperability, scale, and flexibility are now the key levers of success.
These changes in technology and business approach are broadening the scope of satellite IoT beyond traditional sectors such as maritime and aviation, driving increased participation from diverse industry stakeholders.
Return on investment
With the shift in market focus and growing investment, the consideration of return on investment (ROI) becomes increasingly important. Kalpesh Baviskar, Analyst at IoT Analytics, provided further context: ROI is central—for both satellite operators and end-users. Historically, satellite IoT was limited by infrastructure and focused on high-margin sectors like maritime and aviation. Now, rising demand for broadband is driving major investments, but operators will prioritize consumer and enterprise markets first due to higher ARPU. As networks scale, some capacity will support IoT. The key question for users is whether the cost of satellite modules and subscriptions is justified by the value of the data. In high-impact use cases like remote monitoring, the ROI can make sense—but only if the economics align.
According to IoT Analytics, this emerging market is witnessing increased attention from both investors and end-users, spurred by the potential value satellite IoT can generate in critical use cases. Decisions on network investments and adoption are increasingly being evaluated in terms of economic viability and the operational benefit derived from access to new streams of data in otherwise unconnected environments.

According to the company, Verax Protect operates as a real-time oversight and risk mitigation tool tailored to the requirements of modern enterprises. The system integrates with internal business systems and provides adjustable controls that reflect both technical and organisational policy requirements. The increasing prevalence of AI adoption in regulated industries underlines the need for effective risk management and oversight. Gigamon set to lead deep observability with 52 percent share by 2025

New research from Frost & Sullivan reveals that Gigamon is projected to command a 52 percent share of the global deep observability market in 2025, as organisations place a greater emphasis on securing hybrid cloud infrastructure. Frost & Sullivan's analysis, commissioned by Gigamon, estimates the total addressable market for deep observability will reach USD $880 million in 2025 and expand to USD $2.7 billion by 2029, representing a compound annual growth rate of 33 percent. Market drivers The study highlights that growing adoption of hybrid cloud, increased threat complexity, and the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) workloads are key factors driving demand for deep observability solutions. As the number and sophistication of attacks increases, traditional log-based security tools are viewed as insufficient for protecting distributed environments. According to the recent Gigamon 2025 Hybrid Cloud Security Survey of over 1,000 global security and IT leaders, real-time monitoring and visibility across all data in motion are now the top priorities for modern defence strategies. Nearly 89 percent of respondents agreed that deep observability is foundational to effective cloud security. Definition and benefits Frost & Sullivan defines deep observability as the efficient provision of network-derived telemetry to cloud, security, and observability tools. Unlike traditional log analytics, deep observability enhances visibility across complex, hybrid architectures by leveraging detailed insights from network traffic rather than solely relying on pre-existing data logs. The research states that this approach allows security and IT teams to gain a comprehensive view of network and application performance, which in turn can improve security postures and reduce risk by identifying otherwise undetected threats and vulnerabilities. "Over the past year we've seen organisations increasingly prioritise visibility into all data in motion, as they seek to secure their hybrid cloud environments against an accelerating threat landscape," stated Vinay Biradar, Associate Director, Cybersecurity Advisory at Frost & Sullivan. "The increasing complexity of dynamic and distributed workloads is driving a shift in security investments toward solutions that help deliver complete visibility and reduce risk. Our research once again highlights Gigamon as the industry leader, due to its Deep Observability Pipeline and vast ecosystem, as it delivers the rich network-derived telemetry that modern security tools need to effectively secure data and infrastructure from evolving cyberthreats." Sector adoption and drivers Uptake is especially strong among large enterprises with more than 5,000 employees and US Federal Agencies, owing partially to mandatory requirements relating to Zero Trust architectures. The research found that the US Federal government exhibits the highest adoption rate within its sector due to compliance with Zero Trust regulations. Other reported drivers for adopting deep observability solutions include operational efficiency, cost reduction, improved compliance and governance, and the need for comprehensive insight into network traffic, particularly as organisations deploy new AI workloads at scale. Shane Buckley, President and CEO at Gigamon, commented on the evolving technology landscape: "AI is upping the ante for organisations, making complete visibility into all data in motion even more challenging across hybrid cloud infrastructure as organisations rapidly deploy new AI workloads. Increasingly, our customers are relying on the network-derived telemetry we deliver across their virtual machines, containers, cloud, and physical infrastructure, to help eliminate blind spots and vulnerabilities where threat actors could hide. The continued validation of deep observability as a rapidly growing market category underscores its significance in modern cybersecurity tech stacks." Study methodology Frost & Sullivan's research was conducted through a top-down analysis of the deep observability market. This included estimates of the number of large global enterprises and US federal agency adoption rates, as well as typical enterprise spending on deep observability solutions. The findings were derived from both Frost & Sullivan's proprietary research and primary interviews with market participants, including Gigamon.

The recent release of DeepSeek-R1 by the Chinese startup DeepSeek has garnered a lot of interest and could spark a new wave of innovation, potentially rebalancing the state of AI supremacy between the major competitors on the global stage. By introducing unique features and improving upon existing AI capabilities, DeepSeek-R1 set new standards in large language models (LLM) performance. DeepSeek introduced cost-effective, open-source LLMs, drastically reducing AI development expenses. Its models cost approximately USD$0.10 per million tokens, compared to OpenAI's $4.40. Making high-quality AI tools more accessible and affordable also democratises technology access. This inclusivity challenges existing models that are often exclusive or expensive, which broadens the user base for advanced AI solutions and encourages other companies to enhance their offerings, fostering a cycle of rapid advancements in the field. Since DeepSeek released its open and resource friendly but very competitive model, we are now standing at the advent of a potential open model boom. However, there are significant caution signs that point to security and data privacy risks and political bias and censorship. Nation-state influences In the context of geopolitical tensions, DeepSeek represents a homegrown solution for China that reduces reliance on foreign technologies. This self-reliance is crucial for maintaining technological sovereignty and enhancing national security. Organisations in Western countries are increasingly viewing DeepSeek as a security risk and are consequently blocking access to it. The primary concerns include data privacy, security and censorship. DeepSeek's data collection policies indicate that user information is stored on servers located in China. This raises fears that sensitive data could be accessed by the Chinese government under national security laws. Experts also warn that DeepSeek could be exploited for espionage or influence operations. The app's association with China Mobile, a state-owned telecommunications company, has heightened these concerns as researchers discovered code linking DeepSeek to China Mobile, suggesting potential data privacy issues. DeepSeek has also been observed censoring topics sensitive to the Chinese government, such as the Tiananmen Square incident and discussions about Taiwan. This behaviour raises concerns about the spread of disinformation and the suppression of free speech. Security risks and repercussions Following the rise in popularity of DeepSeek's R1 model, the New York-based cybersecurity firm Wiz examined the company's security measures. The firm's investigation revealed that DeepSeek had left its database infrastructure unsecured, allowing public internet access without any password protection. This oversight exposed a substantial amount of sensitive information, including chat histories, backend data and other confidential details. In response to these concerns, several countries and organisations have taken action. The Australian government, for example, has banned DeepSeek from all government devices, citing unacceptable security risks. Italy's data protection authority has blocked DeepSeek after the company failed to provide information about its data processing practices, sparking Belgian and Irish data protections authorities to open probes requesting information from DeepSeek on the processing and storing of their citizens' data. Multiple U.S. federal agencies, including the Navy and NASA, have restricted the use of DeepSeek due to privacy and security concerns. These actions reflect a growing apprehension in the West regarding the potential risks associated with DeepSeek's data practices and its connections to the Chinese government. DeepSeek also suffered the consequences of its sudden global prominence. Based on information from the Chinese Qi Anxin's XLab security firm, the Global Times, an English-language Chinese newspaper under the People's Daily, reported that DeepSeek has faced escalating cyberattacks since early January 2025, beginning with volumetric DDoS attacks leveraging SSDP and NTP reflection and amplification. The attacks, which further escalated to more sophisticated HTTP proxy and botnet-based DDoS attacks by late January, impacted DeepSeek's service and its ability to register new users. The Beijing-headquartered security firm NSFocus also monitored the attacks and concluded that "this highly coordinated and precise attack suggests that the incident was not accidental, but likely a well-planned and organised cyberattack executed by a professional team." Xlab also observed a significant volume of password brute-force attacks targeting DeepSeek's login page, with "a notable portion originating from U.S. IP addresses." It is important to recognise that surges in account takeover (ATO) attempts are not uncommon on platforms that impose restrictions on new registrations. When the availability of new accounts is constrained, they gain value as a tradeable commodity within underground markets, ultimately drawing the attention of malicious actors and increasing illicit traffic. Proceed with caution Despite the significant pushback against DeepSeek's service, the disruptive potential of the open-source model remains intact, as it is freely accessible for anyone to download, experiment with, and innovate upon. Organisations and users can leverage their own data as ground truth within the privacy of their own premises. This not only mitigates many of the drawbacks associated with DeepSeek's service but also fuels innovation across a spectrum of use cases, both benign and malicious.
