I'm a sleep coach — 3 top mattresses worth every cent in today's 4th of July sales

I'm a sleep coach — 3 top mattresses worth every cent in today's 4th of July sales

Tom's Guide7 hours ago
I've been a mattress tester for five years and I've been tracking bed deals for just as long, so I'm in a great position to help you choose a comfy new mattress in today's 4th of July sales. I've scoured the latest deals and I think the best option for most sleepers is $400 off the Saatva Classic at Saatva with a queen priced $1,699 (was $2,099).
Saatva is the highest ranking option in our best mattress of the year guide and $1,699 for a queen is one of the cheapest prices you can buy it for at any time of the year. My top tip if you are shopping today? Pick a mattress that suits your sleep style just as much as it suits your budget.
A cheap bed isn't always a false economy, but in my experience as head of mattress testing for Tom's Guide, the more you spend, the better quality of bed you get. There are a few rare exceptions though, and I've included one (hello, Siena Mattress) below. My team is also tracking this year's 4th of July mattress sales live, with the latest deals as they drop. For now, here's what I recommend buying and why…
1. Saatva Classic: twin was $1,399 now $999 at Saatva I slept on this top-rated hybrid mattress for seven months when collecting new testing data for our Saatva Classic mattress review and I was gutted to part with it once testing was over. Hip and lower back pain were ruining my sleep before I started testing the Classic, but I didn't feel either while sleeping on this hotel-style bed. I rate the Classic as temperature neutral (hot sleeper friendly), supportive, and easy to move around on. A choice of two heights and three feels means it can be tailored to your weight, height, and sleep position. The general Saatva mattress sale is offering $200-$300 off the Classic, but our Tom's Guide discount saves you $400 on every size, reducing a queen to $1,699 (was $2,099). The cheapest it sold for this year was $1,695, so only $4 less, and I doubt we'll see that price again thanks to mattress tariffs. Every Saatva comes with a lifetime warranty, year's trial, and free White Glove Delivery.
Our review: ★★★★★ User score: ★★★★★ (4,000+ reviews)
2. DreamCloud Classic: twin was $1,014 now $399 at DreamCloud The DreamCloud lives in my guest room and every person who has slept on it asks me the same question: 'What is that mattress and where can I buy it?' The DreamCloud Classic is a lot of bed for the money – it's $1,000 cheaper than the Saatva at $699 for a queen and you get $599 of free bedding. That's a phenomenal deal yet it isn't exclusive to the 4th of July – I see this offer regularly in the DreamCloud mattress sales so you have time to sleep on it. Is the DreamCloud as good as the Saatva? Nope. But considering the performance (see our DreamCloud mattress review) for the price, it's a brilliant choice for most people and one of the biggest bargains you'll find today. Like the Saatva, the DreamCloud comes with a year's trial and a forever warranty, but the free shipping is basic.
Our review: ★★★★½ User score: ★★★★½ (9,000+ reviews)
3. Siena Memory Foam Mattress: twin was $199 now $149 at AmazonRemember earlier when I said there are a few rare exceptions to the cheap mattress rule? This is one of them. The toxin-free Siena Memory Foam impressed my team of expert testers – some of whom are used to sleeping on high-end organic mattresses – with its firmer foam feel that lends itself well to back and stomach sleep. I was blown away by the great temperature regulation (as a hot sleeper, I'm wary of all-foam beds) and the strong edge support; that's unusual in a mattress that (as of today's sales) costs just $278 for a queen. Amazon's new deal is nearly $60 cheaper than the price it sold for last Black Friday, and $80 cheaper than what Siena itself is selling this bed for. If you want the best memory foam mattress for back and stomach sleeping, this is the deal for you. Amazon is also honoring Siena's 180-night trial, 10-year warranty and free shipping.
Our review: ★★★★ User score: ★★★★½ (3,000+ reviews)
Not all of us have unlimited budgets to spend on mattresses, so you need to go into the 4th of July sales with a rough idea of ideally what you'd like to spend on a new mattress and what your maximum budget is.
In my experience, around $650-$1,000 gets you a queen size top-rated mattress in a box made by the likes of DreamCloud, Nectar, Layla, Leesa, Casper, Bear, and Puffy. $1,499-$1,899 gets you the absolute cream of the crop, including Saatva, Helix and Bear's most luxurious mattresses.
It's definitely possible to get a good cheap mattress for under $400 in a queen size, but I recommend sticking to known brands with strong professional and user ratings and clear returns policies. These include Siena Sleep, Zinus, and Allswell Home.
Yes you can return any mattress bought online as long as the brand or retailer you're purchasing it from has a clear returns policy. Most good mattress brands offer free returns, but some might state that you have to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights before arranging an exchange or return. That's because, on average, it takes around 30 days for your body to get used to a new bed.
Retailers might have different returns policies to the brands themselves, so if you're buying a named brand bed from Amazon, for example, learn how to return a mattress to Amazon before you purchase your new mattress. Mattresses sold on Amazon generally have a returns window of 30-100 days.

I've found a top Tempur-Pedic deal in today's Mattress Firm sale — up to 30% off the Tempur-ProAdapt

Tempur-Pedic mattresses aren't known for their budget price tags, so this 4th of July deal is worth snapping up if you're in the market for a luxury beds. Right now Mattress Firm is discounting the previous model of the Tempur-Adapt, and a queen will set you back $2,379.30 (MSRP $3,399), which is a considerable saving on this popular (but expensive) mattress. Made by one of the best mattress brands on the market, the Tempur-ProAdapt is a 12" mattress with excellent pressure-relieving qualities. I rate it particularly highly for people with back and joint pain, thanks to the cushioning hug of the Tempur-Material foam providing relief at pressure points. Tempur-Pedic hasn't discounted the ProAdapt on its own website for the 4th of July mattress sales, although you will get $300 worth of free accessories. So this deal is the best we expect to see today on the mattress (that said, the more expensive Tempur-ProBreeze is one of the beds we'd buy in the 4th of July sales). Let's take a closer look at the deal. Tempur-Pedic Tempur-ProAdapt mattress: twin XL was $2,899 now $2,029.30 at Mattress Firm Using adaptive cushioning to cradle and support the joints, I think the ProAdapt is a great choice for people with back pain. Like all the best mattresses for back pain, it supports the lumbar region and keeps the spine aligned by gently contouring and adapting to the shape of each sleeper. Mattress Firm's 4th of July offer takes up to 30% off an older version of the mattress in a medium feel, and there's limited availability on this one, so you should move fast if you're interested. It's the largest discount we've seen on the ProAdapt, and takes a queen down to $2,379.30. You'll also get a 120-night sleep trial, 10-year warranty and free delivery to your door with Mattress Firm. The main focus of the Tempur-ProAdapt is its pressure relief, which makes it an ideal choice for back pain. We've tested the ProAdapt's little brother, the Adapt and in our Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt mattress review, and we rated the medium feel as ideal for back sleepers, so I'd expect to see similar with the ProAdapt. (Excitingly, the version of the Tempur-Adapt that we reviewed is also on sale at Mattress Firm, and at a much more affordable price.) The slow-moving Tempur-Material foam makes this mattress an excellent choice for those who share their bed with a restless sleeper, but that same foam also means this isn't a great choice for hot sleepers as heat is easily trapped. If you sleep hot, I'd recommend one of the best cooling mattresses instead. Tempur's foam is also an acquired taste, delivering much more of an enveloping body hug than most memory foam; if you're looking for something with a more traditional innerspring feel, the Saatva RX is our top pick for back pain and has far less sinkage. The best luxury mattresses come with high price tags, so it's always worth taking advantage of a sale. Although we do see regular Tempur-Pedic mattress sales, it's rare for discounts to exceed $300, so Mattress Firm's deals offering over $1,000 off is great value. Mattress Firm also offers a slight longer trial period than Tempur-Pedic (120 nights to 90) and you'll get a 10-year warranty. Do note, though, that you'll only get free delivery to your door and you'll have to pay $99 if you want white glove delivery. DreamCloud Classic Hybrid mattress: twin was $1,014 now $399 at DreamCloud One of the best hybrid mattresses you can buy, the DreamCloud is an absolute bargain at $699 for a queen in the evergreen DreamCloud mattress sales. The testers in our DreamCloud mattress review found that it delivered exceptional support and suited nearly all sleepers, as well as offering excellent temperature regulation and motion isolation. It's not as luxurious as the Tempur-Pedic, but it is incredibly reasonably priced and you'll also get a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping and returns.
