12 winners of Mohammed bin Rashid Global Water Award honoured
With total prizes of $1 million, the award aims to encourage developing innovative solutions to address the problem of water scarcity globally.
In a social media post, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that the new innovations will "help obtain safe and clean water at a low cost".
"Our goal in launching this award is to stimulate and encourage innovations to address the problem of water scarcity, pollution, and scarcity in less fortunate communities," His Highness wrote.
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that "the best charity is providing water...and innovation in providing water is an ongoing charity... and a continuous, uninterrupted good".

Overseen by the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), the award is organised under the umbrella of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.
It has four award categories, namely innovative projects, innovative research and development, innovative individual and innovative crisis solutions.
Over the last 10 years, the project has impacted over 1,000 water projects and benefitted more than 15 million people across 37 countries.

Bahrain is making significant strides in environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development through a series of robust national policies, international collaborations, and community-driven efforts. These initiatives reflect the kingdom's commitment to safeguarding natural resources and ecosystems for future generations, in alignment with global climate goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda. Guided by the vision of the kingdom's leadership, Bahrain has positioned itself as a regional leader in environmental stewardship. The initiatives are driven by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the King's Personal Representative and President of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE). Bahrain is committed to safeguarding natural resources and ecosystems for future generations Read: Rising environmental, tech challenges threaten global stability: Report A national commitment to environmental sustainability As part of its environmental agenda, Bahrain marks February 4 each year as National Environment Day, reaffirming its commitment to building a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment aligned with Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sheikh Abdullah emphasized Bahrain's growing reputation as a proactive and respected player in global environmental protection efforts. One of Bahrain's major achievements is the implementation of the National Water Strategy 2021–2030, which supports SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation). The strategy focuses on integrated resource management, wastewater treatment and reuse, and smart solutions to improve water efficiency. It forms part of the government's broader commitment for 2023–2026 and is being executed in cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and Environment. Climate goals and carbon neutrality Bahrain has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2035 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. A key step in this direction was the launch of the Bahrain Mangroves initiative in December 2024, which has already doubled the kingdom's mangrove coverage through advanced, sustainable cultivation techniques. In addition to climate mitigation, the Supreme Council for Environment continues to introduce legislation and national initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, support green technologies, and protect Bahrain's biodiversity. These efforts include: Safe disposal of industrial and hazardous waste Rehabilitation of polluted land Reuse of treated wastewater in agriculture and landscaping Protection of endangered marine species like dolphins, sea turtles, and dugongs Conservation of rare wild birds and prevention of illegal hunting The SCE also enforces energy efficiency regulations, green building codes, ozone layer protection protocols, and chemical safety standards, while promoting environmental awareness across both public and private sectors. Bahrain has positioned itself as a regional leader in environmental stewardship Public awareness and global cooperation To increase environmental literacy, Bahrain launched a national campaign titled 'Sustainable Water – Every Drop Has a Story' in collaboration with the UN Environment Program. Spanning four months, the campaign reached communities across the kingdom through public events and educational initiatives, highlighting the critical role of water in sustainable development. Dr. Mohammad bin Dainah, Minister of Oil and Environment and Bahrain's Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, reiterated that environmental responsibility begins with awareness and ends with action. Sharjah issues decision to regulate health activities, professions
The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), during its meeting, on Tuesday, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Council, issued a decision regarding the regulation of practising health activities and professions in the Emirate of Sharjah. The provisions of the decision apply to local health establishments affiliated with the government of the emirate, as well as private health facilities in the emirate and free zones. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), chaired the SEC meeting, on Tuesday, held at the Sharjah Ruler's Office. At the start of the meeting, the SEC extended its congratulations to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as well as to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates, on the occasion of Faya being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The SEC affirmed that this historic achievement reflects Sharjah's rich historical and archaeological value. It also documents humanity's ability to adapt in the region across different eras and periods, and crowns the Emirate's research and scientific efforts to preserve its historical and human heritage. The SEC praised the approval by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah of a new batch of housing support beneficiaries in the Emirate, designated for urgent cases, with a budget of AED335 million. This reflects His Highness' commitment to ensuring a dignified life and supporting families in ways that enhance their stability and social cohesion. The SEC reviewed the final accounts report for the year 2024, which outlines the actual financial results, expenditures, and revenues for government and independent departments and entities in the Emirate of Sharjah for the 2024 fiscal year. The SEC issued a decision regarding the regulation of practising health activities and professions in the Emirate of Sharjah. The provisions apply to local health establishments affiliated with the Government of Sharjah and private health facilities in the Emirate and free zones, as well as professionals working in those establishments. The provisions do not apply to federal government health facilities operating in the Emirate. The decision aims to achieve the following: Establish an integrated system for health regulation management concerned with the development of health facility licensing services by the Sharjah Health Authority, as well as the licensing of health professionals and the assurance of quality healthcare services. Promote good governance standards by reinforcing the principles of transparency, fairness, and legal accountability in the Emirate's healthcare sector. Lay down the legal foundations for practising health professions to ensure their advancement and the provision of the best healthcare services to individuals. The decision also includes legal provisions related to the powers of the Sharjah Health Authority, committees on accountability, medical practice and grievances, as well as regulations for the practice of health activities and professions, conditions and procedures for issuing health facility permits and professional health licences, along with administrative penalties, fees, judicial enforcement, and other legal stipulations.
