Panthers reject premiership-winner's early exit as club denies chase of rival players
The Panthers have revealed premiership-winning forward Luke Garner will remain at the club in 2026 after he was originally granted permission to negotiate with other teams. The Panthers forward has been a crucial part of their success in recent years and has been used in a number of positions in 2025 as the team battles injuries and absentees. Garner is off contract at the end of next year and had been given permission by the Panthers to see if a longer-term deal was available at another club. He was quickly linked to the Dragons and the Parramatta Eels who are both lacking forward depth. Although it appears the pair have come to an agreement with the versatile forward set to see out his Penrith contract after coach Ivan Cleary broke the news. "My understanding is he is staying, which is great," coach Cleary said ahead of their game against the West Tigers on Saturday. "We always wanted him to stay. It was one of the situations where if he can have a look and extend you maybe think about it. But we're really happy, he is playing great footy and looking forward to the future with him. He has been really good for us which we've needed." The 29-year-old has played 118 first-grade games to date - 75 with the Wests Tigers and 43 with Penrith. He has scored 35 tries in his carer so far. This year he has filled in for Cleary's side at second-row, lock and in the centres. Garner may have also agreed to see out his contract with the Panthers because the Perth Bears enter the competition in 2027. A number of players - including Melbourne star Ryan Papenhuyzen and Broncos forward Kobe Hetherington - have been seen signing short-term deals with clubs potentially with an eye on the Bears coming into the competition and offering fresh contracts. The Panthers have struggled to hold onto a number of their premiership-winning stars across the years with some of the big names departing. Viliame Kikau, Matt Burton and Jarome Luai all left for big deals with rival clubs, while James Fisher-Harris returned to New Zealand. Doueihi has been linked with a number of clubs with reports the Panthers were keen on his signature. Doueihi is another verstaile player that can play in the halves, centre or at lock. The Dragons winger was also reportedly a target with a number of injury setbacks hitting the Panthers in this position in 2025. However, Lang reported Panthers CEO Matt Cameron shut down suggestions the club was pursuing either player as they look to retain their current squad. Despite recent reports linking both Adam Doueihi and Tyrell Sloan to Penrith. Panthers CEO Matt Cameron confirmed to me that neither player was on the club's radar. #pantherpride — Peter Lang (@PeterVLang) July 24, 2025 Penrith Panthers seeking seventh straight win The Panthers have come from the bottom of the table to win six consecutive games and start round 21 in sixth position. And the resurrection has come off the back of their defence. The Panthers have only conceded 11 points across this run and it has come with five State of Origin stars in and out of the side. However, they are still facing a different situation sitting outside the top four and Cleary admitted it's a new challenge. "I wouldn't have scripted it that way if I didn't have to," Cleary said. "It's definitely a different season for us and a challenge that is new. I have certainly coached teams that have been down the bottom before. "From where we have come from it is definitely unchartered waters. I'm just really happy with the middle part of the year. The Origin period's always hard for us, but this year in particular after the way we started. I'm really happy with the way we navigated through that, and our best footy is in front of us which is exciting."

A Premier League club has signed the 27-year-old Colombian footballer who was playing for Fluminense. One of the most resonant transfers this Thursday in European football has been starred by the Colombian John Arias, who has been signed by Wolverhampton from the Premier League and left money in several FPC teams. Arias, 27, comes to the Wolves from Fluminense of Brazil in exchange for just over 20 million euros, an amount that represents income for Llaneros, America de Cali, Santa Fe and Patriotas Boyacá. 'Mechita', like Llaneros and Santa Fe, will receive 75,000 pounds sterling through FIFA's solidarity mechanism, which ensures that the clubs that contributed to a player's training receive a part of the compensation. In this way, America de Cali has pocketed approximately 300 million Colombian pesos with this transfer of the Colombian attacker who arrives at the elite of English football. Chuck E. Cheese Mascot Arrested by Florida Cops in Full Costume — As Kids Look On
Jermell Jones, an employee at the location, was charged with three felonies A man dressed in a Chuck E. Cheese mascot costume was arrested at work for alleged credit card fraud. Jermell Jones was charged with three felonies — theft of a credit card, criminal use of personal identification information and fraudulent use of a credit over two times within six months, the Tallahassee Democrat reports. Jones, 41, was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department on Wednesday, July 23, as children and families inside of the Chuck E. Cheese location watched on amid a child's birthday party. He was identified after police entered the restaurant and another employee confirmed his identity. The arrest took place shortly after 6:30 p.m. local time at the Chuck E. Cheese on the 2800 block of Sharer Road in Tallahassee, Fla., CBS Miami reports. Photos and videos captured of the shocking arrest went viral on social media, and the TPD later confirmed their authenticity. TPD spokesperson Alicia Hill told the Democrat, 'They walked over with the intention of just walking outside to put handcuffs on him outside of public view." Hill continued, "But when they approached him, he immediately tenses up and resists, and so at this point they make the decision to put him in handcuffs, keeping in mind the safety of not only the customers, but the suspect, as well as the officers themselves." She then revealed that TPD does not have a specific policy on when to determine if arrests in public spaces are appropriate. Following the arrest, a woman approached the officers at the scene and allegedly provided video evidence, identifying Jones as the person who made fraudulent purchases with her child support debit card. She told police she last used the card on June 28 during her child's birthday party at the restaurant. Jones initially denied using anyone else's card, but later confessed to officers that he sometimes used a cousin's card, identifying her only as "Key," the report obtained by CBS Miami states. Police also found a small amount of marijuana in Jones' possession, the outlet reports. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Investigators ultimately determined Jones' scheme upon reviewing surveillance footage from a nearby store and transaction logs that showed he had used the card in multiple locations. The card was discovered on his person at the scene of his arrest. He was booked and released Thursday morning on $1,000 bond. PEOPLE has reached out to the Chuck E. Cheese location where the arrest took place, and the TPD for comment. "We are aware of an incident involving a part-time employee arrested at our Tallahassee location on Wednesday, July 23," a spokesperson for Chuck E. Cheese said in a statement to PEOPLE. "We have taken the appropriate action concerning the subject employee. The police have not reached out to us about this; please contact the local Tallahassee police department for any questions."
