Fauji actor recalls how Shah Rukh Khan bagged a role in the series despite not being good-looking: 'I told his mother he looks like a monkey...'
Long before he became the 'King of Bollywood,'
Shah Rukh Khan
was just another aspiring actor—until a twist of fate and a very honest opinion landed him his first big break. In a candid and humorous revelation, Fauji co-star Amina Shervani recently shared the unconventional story behind
SRK
's casting in the 1988 television series.
As it turns out, it wasn't classic good looks that got him the part—but something far more expressive.
How a Call from SRK's Mother Changed Everything
While speaking on the Kintu Parantu podcast, Amina reflected on her time in Fauji and shared an interesting backstory about how Shah Rukh Khan joined the show. She revealed that he wasn't originally meant to be part of the cast, but a call from his mother, Latif Fatima, changed the course.
'Too Handsome for Bollywood?'
Latif Fatima had reached out, hoping for a role for her son, describing him as very handsome.
Amina, however, humorously recalled telling her that in Bollywood, male stars often succeed despite unconventional looks, while leading ladies are expected to be flawless. Ironically, this playful reasoning worked in Shah Rukh's favour—and led to his casting in the show that marked his first step toward stardom.
Amina went on to share that Shah Rukh Khan's mother was persistent, and despite the initial hesitation, she eventually sent him to the set.

When Amina saw him for the first time, she immediately called his mother back, convinced he had something special.
Though she didn't see Shah Rukh as conventionally handsome, she felt his highly expressive and animated face—what she called 'elastic'—made him perfect for the screen. According to her, it was this unique quality that made him stand out and hinted at the star he was destined to become.
A Lighthearted Exchange
Amina also shared a lighthearted moment, recalling how Shah Rukh Khan playfully responded to her teasing by calling her a monkey in return.
She praised his natural talent, noting that he was already a skilled actor before Fauji, thanks to his theatre background with renowned mentor Barry John.
Actors with theatre experience, she said, often bring a strong foundation to screen roles—and Shah Rukh was no exception. His versatility was evident early on, and Fauji became the launchpad for what would grow into one of the most iconic careers in Bollywood. The once 'expressive monkey face' went on to define an era of Hindi cinema, headlining blockbuster films and sharing screen space with the biggest names in the world over nearly three decades.

Tamannaah on beauty procedures: Easy to judge people in media glare
Actor Tamannaah Bhatia, in an exclusive conversation with The Lallantop, discussed beauty treatments and public judgment surrounding them. Her comments come amid extensive talk on female actors opting for beauty treatments against the backdrop of television actor Shefali Jariwala's 35-year-old actor bluntly stated these conversations wouldn't have happened had it been about a person from any other industry. She added that it is easier to judge people who are in the media bhi cheez filmon me hoti hai ya film ke related logo se hoti hai ya entertainment ke related logo se hoti hai, wo charcha me aa jati hai. Log usko judge karne lag jate hai (Whatever happens in films or with people related to films or with people related to entertainment, it comes into discussion. People start judging it)," she expressed. On being labelled as flag bearers of beauty, she responded, "People need to understand that it is very easy to talk about people who are in the media glare. Because you know about their lives. There are so many people whose lives you don't know anything about, and you will never know also...""In baton ke baare me hum bas charcha kar sakte hai. Isse hum kahi pahuchte nahi hai. (We can only discuss these things. This will not get us anywhere). I don't know how conclusive they are," she then expressed that beauty treatments like Botox are no longer a taboo topic. "Gen-Z kids are quite open about it. Jo bhi process karate hai, (whatever procedure they undergo), they are open about it," Bhatia shared. Lastly, the 'Baahubali' actor concluded, "Koi bhi judgement ke through guzarna nahi chahta. Wo kuch kahenge to unpe ungliya uthengi. (No one wants to go through judgment. If they say anything, fingers will be pointed at them.) There is a lot of judgment on people who are in films. Wo shayad comfortable nahi hai apne life me baare me share karne ke liye. (Maybe they are probably not comfortable sharing their life)."For the unaware, Shefali Jariwala was found dead at her residence on the night of June 27. Police officials found two boxes containing tablets and vials of anti-ageing medication (Glutathione) and skin glow medications at her residence. While preliminary reports said a cardiac arrest caused her death, sources close to the investigation suggest a far more troubling reason: a cocktail of anti-ageing injections, allegedly self-administered while she was led to heightened focus on the use of beauty treatments by celebrities, especially female actors, in the film Jariwala first rose to fame with her performance in the 90s dance number 'Kaanta Laga'. She later participated in various Hindi reality shows, including 'Bigg Boss 13' and 'Nach Baliye', among others.- Ends

Kishore Kumar AI Version Of Saiyaara Takes Internet by Storm; Fans Call It More Soulful Than Original
Last Updated: Kishore Kumar's AI-generated version of Saiyaara goes viral online. Fans call it nostalgic, soulful—some even say it's better than the original. The chart-topping title track of Saiyaara has already cemented its place as a musical phenomenon. But now, a fan-made AI-generated version featuring the legendary voice of Kishore Kumar has added a nostalgic twist to the viral wave. Set against visuals of Rimjhim Gire Sawan, the AI cover has taken social media by storm, sparking debate over creativity, ethics, and authenticity in the age of artificial intelligence. The edit juxtaposes Kishore Kumar's recreated vocals with the classic rainy Mumbai visuals of Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee from the 1970s hit—creating a surreal time-travel moment for music lovers. Somebody made AI based Kishore Kumar version of Saiyaara title songGood effort with retro style rhythm arrangement.. sounds better than original.. yet not even 10% of the power, energy, vibrancy, voice, singing of what KK cud have achieved.. — Keh Ke Peheno (@coolfunnytshirt) August 2, 2025 Online, the video has stirred both admiration and skepticism. 'This is so soothing, at first I thought the Saiyaara song was rewritten," commented one user on X. Another gushed, 'The edit is really good, even better than the original." A third added bluntly, 'India literally lost real creators in music industry." But not everyone was sold. While many applauded the technical finesse, die-hard Kishore Kumar fans pushed back, calling the AI voice a pale imitation of the original. 'Only true Kishore fans will not go 'wow' on this video effort. The original song + the video is a masterpiece. None can replace them even if may seem perfect fit for some noobs," one post read. Another critic added, 'Good effort with retro-style rhythm arrangement… sounds better than original… yet not even 10% of the power, energy, vibrancy, voice, singing of what KK could have achieved." This online buzz comes on the heels of Saiyaara's historic global run. The Faheem Abdullah-sung ballad recently became the first Hindi song to top Spotify's Global Viral 50 chart, and also entered Spotify's Top 10 worldwide—a rare feat for a Bollywood track. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara stars newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The film has crossed ₹250 crore at the box office, and the song—composed by Tanishk Bagchi, Faheem Abdullah, and Arslan Nizami—has played a pivotal role in its cultural dominance. view comments First Published: August 03, 2025, 19:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. As Friendship Day approaches on August 3, actor Arjun Bijlani reflects on the bonds that have shaped his life, from his earliest friendships to the relationships he has built in the entertainment industry. Known for his warm personality, the actor believes that true friends are life's biggest blessing. "I don't celebrate Friendship Day; I cherish friendship every day,," Arjun begins fondly. "My wife Neha is my forever best friend. She has been my biggest support system, my sounding board, and the person who understands me the most. No matter what, I can always count on her, and celebrating this day with her and my close friends makes it extra special." When asked about friendships in the entertainment industry, Arjun reflects on how rare yet meaningful they can be. "It is often said that it's tough to make friendships in the industry because everyone is busy with their own lives and schedules. I feel I have been really lucky. I think I am still friends with all the friends with whom I did my first show, and those bonds are very close to my heart. We grew together, faced struggles together, and cheered for each other's successes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo These are friendships built on trust and shared experiences, and that makes them last." Talking about his idea of a perfect time with friends, Arjun emphasizes that simplicity matters the most. 'For me, perfect moments with friends aren't about lavish parties or exotic trips. It's about genuine connection. Sometimes, it's sitting together over a cup of coffee, sharing stories, reliving old memories, or just having long conversations on the phone when we can't meet. Even the simplest moments become special when you're with the right people. ' The actor also holds his childhood friendships close to his heart. "Yes, I am still in touch with my childhood friends. Those friendships are unique because they are effortless and pure. They were formed before fame or success came into my life, and that makes them unshakable. Friendships today are equally special, but with busy schedules, they need a little more effort to nurture." As he reflects on the occasion, Arjun leaves everyone with a heartfelt message about the importance of friends. "Friendship is one of the most beautiful relationships in life. Whether it's an old friend, a new one, or that one person who feels like family, these bonds are what keep us grounded and happy. Never take them for granted," he concludes.
