Diamondbacks put catcher Gabriel Moreno on 10-day IL because of right hand contusion
The move is retroactive to June 16.
Arizona selected catcher Aramis Garcia from Triple-A Reno. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Christian Montes De Oca (back/elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Outfielder Corbin Carroll was not in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Blue Jays. Carroll left Wednesday's 8-1 loss in the eighth inning after being hit on the left hand by a pitch. X-rays did not reveal a fracture.
Manager Torey Lovullo said Carroll asked to play Thursday, but Lovullo preferred to rest the 2023 NL Rookie of the Year. Carroll is batting .255 with 20 home runs and 44 RBIs.
Former Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk started in right field for the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
Moreno was scratched from the lineup Tuesday after injuring his hand during batting practice. He did not play Wednesday.
Moreno is batting .270 with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 53 games.
Now in his third season with the Diamondbacks, Moreno was acquired from Toronto following the 2022 season, along with outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr., in a trade that sent outfielder Daulton Varsho to the Blue Jays.

Pirates complete sweep of AL-best Tigers on heels of getting swept by AL-worst White Sox
It's been a polarized week for the Pittsburgh Pirates since their return from the MLB All-Star break. The Pirates opened the second half of their regular-season schedule by getting swept by the Chicago White Sox, the worst team in the American League. They followed that up with a sweep of the Detroit Tigers, the team with the best record in the AL. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The Pirates completed the three-game sweep of the Tigers on Wednesday with a 6-1 win. They also won, 8-5 on Tuesday and 3-0 on Monday, anchored by six shutout innings from Paul Skenes. Per Elias Sports Bureau, that makes the Pirates the first team since the 1980 San Diego Padres to get swept by the worst team and a league and sweep the best team in the league in back-to-back series past the midway point of the season. The third consecutive loss to Pittsburgh dropped the Tigers to 60-43, into a virtual tie with the Houston Astros (59-42) and Toronto Blue Jays (59-42) for the best record in the AL. Though the Astros and Blue Jays (.584) have a better winning percentage by a smidge than the the Tigers (.583) thanks to having played two fewer games each. The White Sox, meanwhile, remain the dregs of the AL at 36-66 (.354) So which Pirates are the real Pirates? Their record speaks for itself. Despite the sweep of the Tigers, the Pirates remain one of the worst teams in baseball and sit at the bottom of the NL Central with a 42-61 (.408) record. This is a team that's produced a 5-8 record for Skenes, a Cy Young contender with a 1.91 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. The sweep of the Tigers is a highlight of their season, but it's not a sign of anything larger for the Pirates.

Eagles camp opens with a notable shift on the offensive line
There isn't much of note that can be gauged from a training camp practice in July. The Philadelphia Eagles are in shorts. No one is wearing any pads. Contact is impermissible. That reminds us of something Nakobe Dean said last summer. "These T-shirts and shorts are cute, but we play football in pads". We are joking about some issues here. It is completely understandable why the NFL has its rules regarding these matters. Nothing is more important than player safety, nor should it be. However, this makes it more challenging to assess what we are witnessing. We were informed by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio that Jihaad Campbell wouldn't practice until August. What should we gather from him being on the field for Philadelphia's first training camp practice? Can we collect any information if there are no pads and no contact? Then, there's the offensive line. Brett Toth is one of the players here who has been under Jeff Stoutland for the longest time, but he can't snap the football. Don't look now, but rookie fifth-rounder Drew Kendall is already taking snaps with the second team offense. It was only one practice. There's still so much to iron out, but that is worth noting. He lined up alongside Kendall Lamm, Matt Pryor, and Darian Kinnard. Toth lined up as the left guard with that same unit. We shouldn't be surprised. He's the only other center listed on the Eagles' preseason depth chart, alongside Pro Bowler Cam Jurgens. We'll have to see if he makes any significant contributions. This situation could mean anything—it may not matter at all, or it could have implications. One thing is for sure: it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
