An investigation is underway after authorities found a body matching the description of a missing 13-year-old boy, Los Angeles police said.
Oscar Omar Hernandez, of the San Fernando Valley, was reported missing by his family on Sunday after he "failed to return home from visiting an acquaintance in Lancaster," LAPD Capt. Scot Williams said in a statement.
The Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division assumed the lead Tuesday in the investigation, which subsequently led them to an "area of interest" in the city of Oxnard, west of Los Angeles, Williams said.
"In collaboration with our partners at the FBI, a coordinated foot search of that area took place," Williams said. "During the search, a body matching the description of the missing teen was discovered."

The identity of the deceased has not been officially confirmed, and the cause of death remains undetermined, police said.
Detectives are pursuing leads to "determine the cause of death and to identify any individuals who may be involved or possess information relevant to this investigation," Williams said.
LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told reporters at the scene in Oxnard on Wednesday that they were working to establish a timeline in the case.
"The family was aware of his destination, and I'm going to kind of leave it at that as part of the investigation," he said.
Police would not say what led them to Oxnard.
"All we can say is that our investigation led us to this point here ... in the unincorporated area of Ventura County," Hamilton said.
Family and friends of Oscar paid tribute to the teen on Thursday at the site where the body was found on the side of a road in Oxnard.
"He didn't need to be treated like an animal. That was my son," his mother, Gladys Bautista, cried out in Spanish, ABC News' Los Angeles station KABC reported.

Loved ones also gathered outside his home in the North Hollywood area, where friends remembered him as the "nicest person" who was "always kindhearted" and a great dancer.
Police did not have an update on the investigation on Friday.
"Anyone that thinks they're going to get away with any kind of foul play or nefarious activity or criminal activity, they're going to learn that the Los Angeles Police Department will stop at nothing to bring people to justice," Hamilton said at the scene Wednesday.

Suspect in Vallejo $2,600 Pokémon card robbery arrested after crash, police say

Police in Vallejo said Monday that a recent traffic collision led to the arrest of a suspect in multiple robberies, including the alleged theft of more than $2,500 in collectible Pokémon cards. On July 7, officers were called to the 100 block of Nugent Drive on reports of a disturbance. Two victims said they met with a buyer to sell trading cards after arranging a sale through an online marketplace. The cards were valued at $2,600, according to police. During the meeting, the buyer inspected the cards before claiming he sent the payment. As the victims asked to confirm the transaction, police said the suspect attempted to flee the scene on an electric scooter with the cards. Police said one of the victims attempted to stop the suspect, but the suspect used pepper spray on the victim as he fled the scene. The victims were able to recover the cards and provided a description of the suspect. Officers determined that there were two other recent robberies that shared the same suspect description, location and assaults involving pepper spray. Officers conducted a follow-up investigation and brought in the victims of the two other robberies for a photo lineup. "Each victim independently identified the same suspect as the person responsible for the robbery and assault," police said in a statement. The next day, officers responded to a traffic collision suspect near Tuolumne Street and Broadway. Police said one of the people involved in the crash matched the suspect description and was detained at the scene. A records check determined that the suspect lived near the scene of the robbery. Officers also seized several items from the suspect, including a ski mask, electric scooter and cellphone. After being medically cleared, the suspect was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of robbery and assault with a chemical agent.

Police are investigating an attempted robbery of an armed Brinks truck in Northeast Philadelphia on Tuesday morning. The attempted heist happened in the 8200 block of Castor Avenue around 11:30 a.m., the Philadelphia Police Department said. Police preliminarily believe a guard likely fired shots during the attempted robbery. Chopper 3 was over the scene on Castor Avenue. Investigators are looking for surveillance video in the area. No arrests have been made. It's unclear if anyone was struck by gunfire. Police are currently checking nearby hospitals for possible shooting patients. This was at least the fourth robbery of an armored truck in the city over the last month. Police said the first truck was hit for $3 million. PPD sources said they're looking at these as a potential pattern. The PPD and the FBI Task Force are collaborating on the investigation. This is a developing story and will be Holden, Rory Hardenstine and Dan Snyder contributed to this report.
