Anwar: Asian Renaissance Italian edition reaches broader international audience

ROME: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed appreciation to Italian translator Andrea Fais and publisher Stefano Bonilauri for their efforts in translating his work "The Asian Renaissance" into Italian.
"This book, published more than two decades ago, outlines a grand vision for the revival of Asian civilisation through the values of knowledge, culture, openness and justice.
"It was written in response to global imbalances and the dominance of Western discourse.
"I truly appreciate the dedication of these Italian scholars in translating this work, which allows a broader international audience to engage with important ideas on democracy and value-based development," Anwar said.
He added that the initiative is not merely a translation project but a bridge of thought and ideas that helps narrow the understanding gap between East and West, especially in today's increasingly divided world.
"May this book continue to serve as a source of inspiration in our ongoing efforts to uphold the resurgence of human values, knowledge and universal justice," he said.

Malaysia retains Asian seat at FAO Council till 2028 with Thailand

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has successfully retained its role as the Asian representative at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Council, partnering with Thailand for the 2026-2028 term. The decision was confirmed during the 44th FAO Conference in Rome, Italy. The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) highlighted Malaysia's collaborative efforts with regional partners, including Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Pakistan, to secure the seat. Malaysia's renewed term begins on July 1, 2026, and will extend until the conclusion of the 46th FAO Conference in 2029. - Bernama

Malaysia's carbon tax plan won't deter investors, says PM Anwar

PARIS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reassured investors that Malaysia's proposed carbon tax will not hinder business growth, emphasising a balanced approach to decarbonisation. Speaking at the Roundtable Meeting with Captains of Industry in Paris, he acknowledged global decarbonisation trends but stressed the need for realistic policies. 'The proposed carbon tax should not be seen as too problematic at the expense of investing companies,' Anwar said during the session. He highlighted that the government is finalising details for implementation in the coming months, focusing initially on high-emission sectors like iron, steel, and energy. The carbon tax, set for introduction in 2026, aligns with Malaysia's strategy to adopt low-carbon technologies and meet emission reduction targets. Anwar noted that while the palm oil industry remains vital, new plantations on peat soil have been halted due to their significant carbon footprint. Key ministers, including Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, attended the meeting. Industry leaders praised Malaysia's investment climate, reinforcing confidence in the country's economic stability. On tourism, Anwar highlighted growing French visitor numbers, aided by Malaysia Airlines' new Kuala Lumpur-Paris route. He also promoted Malaysia and ASEAN as dynamic investment hubs, assuring French businesses of strong growth opportunities. - Bernama

Interfaith council queries Anwar over non-extension of judges' tenure

An interfaith group has questioned whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had referred the tenure extensions of three top judges to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, as stipulated under Article 125 of the Federal Constitution. In a statement, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) cited Anwar's recent remarks that procedures must be followed when judges reach retirement age.
