The CW says so long to Inside the NFL
A must-watch highlights repository in the days before the Internet, Inside the NFL has struggled in recent years. John Ourand of Puck reports that the show will be on the move, again.
The CW held the rights to the weekly program for the past two years. It has decided not to renew the show.
After an extended run at HBO, Inside the NFL spent 13 years at Showtime before a brief run at Paramount+. It's unknown where it will land in 2025.
As Ourand notes, there aren't many options. Ourand adds that the league has opened talks with 'several interested parties,' but no announcement is imminent. Some network may view buying the show as a price to be paid to otherwise have a good relationship with the league.
Still, the overriding question is whether anyone will watch. It never creates news, never moves the needle. Even with Bill Belichick on the show in 2024, it was a tree that fell in an empty forest. (Indeed, the only news it made last year came from the hiring of Belichick.)
If the show is going to survive, it needs to be ripped down and reimagined. Highlights are everywhere. Debates are everywhere. Interviews are everywhere. Inside the NFL needs to come up with a fresh approach that gives the audience something that it wants — and something that it can't get anywhere else.
In an ever crowded landscape of NFL media options, it's entirely possible that this is impossible. And the inescapa
ble conclusion could be that there's no longer a seat at the table for Inside the NFL.

According to the Internet, he died in 2014 and did so again in 2015 —both times by gunshot—and then passed away yet again in 2024. (The latter claim appeared on a Reddit subreddit dedicated to lies, though some people took it seriously.) Even in the months leading up to his actual death, online rumors claimed that he was on his deathbed or had died. And during that decade of hoaxes—long after the height of his wrestling career—his image was used countless times for digital manipulations. Photographs of Hogan flexing the biceps that he called '24-inch pythons' were often edited to swap out his face, with its iconic horseshoe mustache, and replace it with the face of one of the many people who wanted to be seen inhabiting his body—or with the face of someone else whom others wanted to see on it for their own reasons. But while Hogan couldn't prevent the seemingly endless digital manipulations, he became a landmark figure of the digital era for his efforts to defend his right to privacy. Years before 'deepfake' was a household word and artificial intelligence systems could allow anyone to puppeteer the image of a legend, Hogan found himself naked—literally—before the Web. In 2012 Gawker, a digital media company known for gossip scoops, acquired a 2006 sex tape involving Hogan (which he asserted had not been filmed with his knowledge or consent) and posted an excerpt online. Hogan sued, and a jury awarded him a total of $140 million in damages, though he settled for $31 million. Behind the scenes of what looked like a tabloid circus was a proxy battle between tech moguls. Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, who had been outed as gay by Gawker years before, funded Hogan's lawsuit. The case, which bankrupted Gawker, would become a major test for First Amendment rights in a time when clicks were increasingly becoming currency and online privacy had few protections. Buscemi, who is currently starring in Netflix's Wednesday, told Colbert he decided to really prepare for his audition with Levinson. "I studied the sides, the script, and I went in there, did my reading, my audition, and he went, 'That was really good, that's really good, Steve. Alright, 'Let's try it again,'" the actor recalled. "He gave me a very specific note, and I don't remember what that was, but he wanted me to add a different color to it, or shading. I went, 'OK,' and then I read it again, the exact same way I just did it." "There was this silence, and we both just looked at each other, and I think I even said, 'That was the same, wasn't it?' He said, 'It's OK, it's OK.' Needless to say, I did not get that part," Buscemi said. Buscemi recalled another time he auditioned for director Mike Nichols and casting director Juliet Taylor for the film Biloxi Blues, despite knowing he had a scheduling conflict. "I went in, I do the audition, and they love it," he said. "They were laughing, they were like, 'That's great! Yeah, good.' And I went, 'So, when are you shooting this?'" Buscemi said he told them he was not available on the shooting dates. "And again, this, like, silence. And I could see Juliet Taylor looking at me like, 'What is wrong with you?'"
