QNA
Doha
His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received a phone call on Tuesday from President of the Islamic Republic of Iran HE Masoud Pezeshkian.
At the outset of the call, HH the Amir reaffirmed the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the attack on Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, deeming it a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.
HH the Amir also said that this violation is completely inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness and the close relations between the two countries, especially as Qatar has always advocated for dialogue with Iran and has made significant diplomatic efforts in this regard.
HH the Amir stressed the urgent need to immediately halt military operations and to seriously return to the negotiation table and dialogue in order to overcome this crisis and safeguard the region's security and peoples' safety.
For his part, the Iranian President expressed regret to HH the Amir and to the brotherly Qatari people for the damages caused by the attack. He noted that the State of Qatar and its people were not the intended targets of this operation, and that the attack does not constitute a threat to the State of Qatar. He affirmed that the State of Qatar remains a neighboring, Muslim, and sisterly country and said he hopes for bilateral relations to always be based on the principles of respect for national sovereignty and good neighbourliness.

Tens of thousands of Iranians attend funerals of killed generals
dpa Tehran Tens of thousands of people attended official funeral ceremonies held in central Tehran on Saturday for the generals killed by Israel. The senior military leaders and members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) honoured include Chief of Staff Mohammed Bagheri, IRGC Commander-in-Chief Hussein Salami and Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, head of the IRGC's aerospace division. The three men were the leaders of the Iranian armed forces and had significant political influence. Israel targeted and killed more than 20 high-ranking military officials during the 12-day war, some of them in their homes. Journalists and one of the nuclear scientists who were killed were also commemorated, state broadcaster IRIB reported. Attendees at the ceremonies on Saturday included President Massoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, but not religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It is unusual for the nation's most powerful man to be absent as usually on such an occasion he would recite the prayers. More than 1 million people were gathered in Tehran, according to state broadcaster IRIB, though the figure could not be independently verified. Participants chanted slogans common in Iran such as 'Death to America!' and 'Death to Israel!' The funeral ceremony took place at Revolution Square in central Tehran and the subsequent march led to Azadi Square (Freedom Square) in western Tehran.

Protecting children's right to education is important: Qatar
QNA New York Qatar has emphasised the importance of promoting and protecting children's right to education, especially in countries affected by conflict, highlighting its leading efforts in this field, which have received international recognition. This came in Qatar's statement delivered by Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, during the UN Security Council's open debate on effective strategies to end and prevent grave violations against children in armed conflict, held at UN headquarters in New York. She referred to Qatar's key partnerships with the United Nations, which reflect the country's commitment to supporting international efforts to protect children affected by armed conflicts. She pointed to Qatar's hosting and support of the Analysis and Outreach Hub of the Office of the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, noting that the centre continues to play a vital role in advancing child protection efforts in conflict areas. She also noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1612 (2005), which was a landmark step and solid framework for improving the protection of children affected by armed conflict. It led to the creation of a monitoring and reporting mechanism focused on children and armed conflict. She stressed that all commitments must now be translated into concrete actions. Sheikha Alya expressed Qatar's deep concern over the increasing number of grave violations against children, citing the UN Secretary-General's report that said violence against children in armed conflict reached its highest level in 2024, and added that children have borne the brunt of relentless hostilities and indiscriminate attacks. She also strongly condemned the grave violations of international humanitarian law committed by the Israeli occupation against children in the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to urgently act to compel Israel to comply with international laws, end its brutal war on Gaza immediately, and address the resulting catastrophic humanitarian conditions. She said that it was extremely alarming what the report documented regarding the scale of grave violations against children in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the widespread use of explosive weapons in densely populated areas, the sharp increase in violations in Gaza, and the escalation of violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The Qatari emphasised that it is absolutely unacceptable for children to remain victims of grave violations in ongoing conflicts, and underscored the importance of ensuring their protection in such areas. Sh expressed her appreciation for Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba, praising her tireless efforts and extensive expertise.
