Exclusive - Sharad Kelkar on ‘Tumm Se Tumm Tak': This role shows a romantic side of me that's rarely seen on-screen
Sharad Kelkar
, known for his commanding screen presence and powerful portrayals in both films and television, has made a much-awaited return to the small screen with Tumm Se Tumm Tak produced by Prateek Sharma.
In the show, he steps into the shoes of Arya Vardhan, a successful billionaire whose life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with Anu, a spirited young woman from a middle-class background.
The show weaves together the story of two individuals from opposite ends of the social spectrum, and Sharad believes that's exactly what makes it so special. 'Tumm Se Tumm Tak is about how two people from completely different worlds meet and find common ground through love and life's challenges,' he says.
'Anu comes from a lower middle-class family, and her life has been full of struggles. Arya Vardhan, on the other hand, is a billionaire who has worked extremely hard to be where he is.
It's not just a fairytale romance — it has depth, realism, and heart.'
For Sharad, the story was the biggest draw. 'Whether it's a TV show, a film, or a web series — the medium is secondary to me. What matters most is the story, the character, and the kind of work I'm getting to do.
This project ticked all those boxes,' he explains. 'The script has layers. There are emotional highs and lows and at its core, a very real, very beautiful love story.'
What makes Tumm Se Tumm Tak even more special for Sharad is that it marks his return to the channel — a channel where he has had some memorable associations in the past. 'For me, this is like coming back home,' he says fondly. 'The channel has always been close to my heart, and returning with such a powerful and emotionally rich character feels very fulfilling.
I want to thank Prateek Sharma, our producer, for bringing me back to this platform with such grace.
He is incredibly honest, grounded, and supportive — the kind of person who gives his actors the creative space they need.'
Sharad is also managing a packed schedule with a film and a web series in the pipeline, but he credits his team for allowing him the flexibility to give his best to each project. 'I'm fortunate to have a producer who respects my process.'
Widely regarded for his intense, action-oriented, or authoritative roles, Sharad sees Arya Vardhan as an opportunity to break away from that mold. 'Most people see me as this tough, no-nonsense guy — someone who's always playing a cop, a villain, or a stern character. But honestly, I'm a very romantic person at heart. That part of me rarely gets explored on-screen, and this role lets me express it in a very raw and vulnerable way,' he reveals.
'It's going to be a refreshing change for the audience to see this softer, more emotional side of me.'
He also speaks candidly about the challenges and rewards of working in television. 'TV is a very honest medium. You can't pretend for long — the character has to be relatable and consistent because you're living with it day in and day out. That's what I love about it. It keeps you rooted and connected with the audience in a very unique way.'
Sharad assures viewers that Tumm Se Tumm Tak will offer more than just a traditional romance. 'There are two distinct tracks in the show — both equally engaging. The emotional graph of the characters is dynamic, and viewers will get to see how their lives intertwine, grow, and evolve. It's not just about love; it's about transformation, healing, and discovering parts of yourself through someone else.'

Rajkumar Kanojia on his role in Tumm Se Tumm Tak; says ‘I actually learned how to drive an auto'
Veteran actor Rajkumar Kanojia , who is currently seen in Tumm Se Tumm Tak, is thrilled to be part of the show. Known for his powerful screen presence and layered characters, Rajkumar shared how the show's emotional depth and fresh narrative caught his attention immediately. 'My initial reaction was—how come you remembered me for this wonderful show?' he revealed. 'I was appreciated for my role in Udne Ki Aasha, and I was told that's exactly why I was remembered for this one. It always feels good when people love your work and trust you with more meaningful roles.' Tumm Se Tumm Tak explores an unconventional age-gap romance between the lead characters, Anu and Arya, and Rajkumar plays a pivotal role in shaping their journey. 'There have been other shows with age-gap relationships, like Bade Acche Lagte Hain, but this one is completely different because the times have changed. When we present age-gap stories in a fresh way that reflects today's world, the audience becomes more curious and invested. Even I'm excited to see how the story unfolds,' he said. Rajkumar portrays an auto driver in the series—but not your everyday stereotype. 'I play an auto driver, but he's not your typical one. He's someone who understands both Anu and Arya deeply and helps bring them together. His journey evolves along with theirs. From the very beginning, he senses that there's something special between the two,' he explained. To bring authenticity to the role, Rajkumar underwent serious preparation. 'Playing the role wasn't too difficult emotionally, but for preparation, I actually learned how to drive an auto. Since my character is a Delhi auto driver and I'm a true Mumbaikar, I had to study the body language, accent, and mannerisms of Delhi's auto walas. I've tried my best to get it right,' he said. He added, 'There's something very relatable and endearing about someone who silently supports and unites others. I prepared emotionally and mentally for the role, but once I stepped into the character, it felt very natural.' Rajkumar also praised the makers of the show. 'They treat everyone with respect and genuinely care for their artists. I'm really enjoying this journey with them,' he said. 'Their approach is unique—they balance practicality with emotion, which is rare. This is my first time working with them, and I must say, their positive energy and creative vision make the experience truly enjoyable.'

Sharad Kelkar: At 48, I can't play a college student
After nearly eight years away from the small screen, is making his television comeback with Tumm Se Tumm Tak. The Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah show, featuring Niharika Chouksey, revolves around a May-December romance. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sharad admits he was initially hesitant to take it on. In a chat with Mumbai Mirror, he says, 'I never overcommit, because when that happens, it usually ends on a bad note. Most TV shows today are extremely demanding, often requiring 25 to 30 days a month. With my film, web series, voiceover, and hosting commitments, it was tough to commit fully. But I loved the concept and the character. I wanted something real and age-appropriate. I'm 48 — I can't play a college boy. It has to feel authentic. Everything fell into place beautifully, and here I am.' The actor has seamlessly transitioned across mediums — television, film, and OTT — something many struggle with due to the lingering 'TV actor' tag. His approach has always been clear. 'I never wanted to be a star; I wanted to be an actor. When that's your mindset, the path becomes simpler. If you're good enough, you'll become a hero anyway,' he says, adding, 'I've played lead roles on TV for years. Others may have done it briefly, but I lived that phase. During Saat Phere, the fame I experienced as Nahar Singh — honestly, even some A-listers may not have had that.' He had this clarity early in his career. He recalls, 'Around 18 years ago, I was shooting Saat Phere, the show was number one, but I wasn't nominated for an award. At a party, I asked someone from the channel why, and they replied, 'Do you want to be a star or an actor?' That question changed everything — I chose to be remembered as an artiste.' Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Reflecting on his journey, he shares, 'I was an MBA graduate headed for a corporate job. I had dreams of joining the defence services, but that didn't work out. I even worked as a fitness trainer. I kept wondering, what am I really doing with my life? I had explored several paths and done well in each. So, when I got into acting, I told myself, 'At least learn the craft properly'. The process of learning, unlearning, and growing — it's still on. '
