AirAsia formalises RM99.5m charter service contract with Malaysian Armed Forces

LANGKAWI: AirAsia has formalised a charter service contract with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) worth RM99.5 million, including special aircraft leasing until Aug 1, 2027, which encompasses daily charters and special charter arrangements covering domestic routes throughout Malaysia. In a statement released in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2025 exhibition today, AirAsia said this service highlights AirAsia's commitment to leveraging its vast domestic network and high-frequency flights to provide reliable and efficient transportation solutions for the MAF. 'AirAsia will facilitate the movement of MAF personnel using commercial flights from Monday to Friday for duty and welfare travel in tandem with AirAsia's existing commercial flight schedule, ensuring seamless integration while maintaining passenger convenience. 'Additionally, there will be a special charter arrangement involving the exclusive rental of the entire aircraft, dedicated solely to MAF personnel, without mixing with commercial passengers,' it said. AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra said this partnership reaffirms AirAsia's commitment, as the people's airline, to continue serving the nation and supporting government initiatives. Tabung Pahlawan Campaign Has Raises RM2.18 Mln
ALOR GAJAH, July 27 (Bernama) -- The 2025 Tabung Pahlawan Campaign, launched in conjunction with Warriors' Day, has raised RM2.186 million as of July 24, reflecting the people's continued support towards the welfare of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said to widen outreach and simplify contributions, the ministry had also introduced a QR code donation campaign as an alternative, targeting a minimum of RM1 from every Malaysian. 'Malaysia has more than 34 million people, imagine if every person contributes at least RM1, the impact would be tremendous. 'That's why we've launched the QR code campaign, which is now widely circulated via social media and official government channels. We hope this will encourage more people to contribute,' he told Bernama after attending a high tea event with Melaka MAF veterans, in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Gangsa, here today. Also present were Veterans' Affairs Department (JHEV) director-general Maj Gen Datuk Semaon Marjuki and JHEV Melaka and Negeri Sembilan director, Major Muhammad Zarifi Tumin. Earlier at the event, 120 MAF veterans from Melaka, representing 22 associations, were celebrated. They were presented with contributions, including Cost of Living Aid, Higher Education Aid, Home Repair Assistance, and 'Bakul Rahmah' food baskets. At the same time, Adly said 151,000 MAF veterans had registered and were now using the Veteran Digital Card, which was introduced in September last year. 'With the digital card, veterans no longer need to carry a physical card as all their information is now accessible on their smartphones. So for those who haven't made the switch, we strongly encourage them to do so and to update their information. 'Although the physical card is still in use, the digital version offers easier access for members, especially to information on health, welfare, and other services,' he said.

Malaysian boy enters record books with amazing memory for world currencies

Devakshean could make history with his extraordinary ability to identify 65 currencies from various countries in a single minute. Thanks to this unique skill, his name has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for the achievement of 'Most Foreign Currencies Identified by a Child in One Minute'. His mother, G. Devamalar, 37, from Negeri Sembilan, said her son began showing interest in national flags when he was just one year old, and could already accurately identify and name the Malaysian flag. 'From an early age, we could see his extraordinary abilities. When we showed him pictures or flags, he remembered them quickly. So, from there, we started training him, and at the age of two, he set a record by identifying over 200 countries and cities. 'His memory is truly exceptional—whatever we show him, he can remember. Not only flags and currency values but much more—he picks things up quickly,' she told reporters after a certificate of recognition was presented by MBR representative V. Menaga to Devakshean here today. Devamalar said she and her husband, A. Devakumaran, 41, have always supported their only child's interests and development. She also said it took about a month of preparation to train Devakshean before applying for MBR recognition this year. 'My son loves watching YouTube. So, we uploaded content such as lists of foreign currencies and the like to YouTube, and he learned on his own through that platform. He rarely plays—he enjoys reading books and learning on his own. That's just his nature. We've never forced him—it's his passion,' she said. Devamalar also hoped her son's extraordinary achievement would open doors to more opportunities, including possibly entering the Guinness World Records, and uncovering other potential areas that could be nurtured in the future. 'Not many people know him yet. I hope that through media coverage, more people will learn about him and he will have opportunities to go further,' she said. Direct flights between Pontianak, Kuching and KL to boost tourism, economic ties

Speaking at the launch of AirAsia's flight routes between Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Pontianak, held in conjunction with the Sarawak Travel Fair 2025 at Ayani Megamall here yesterday, he said the reinstated services would not only boost tourism, but also strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries. 'In addition to tourism, it will also facilitate access to educational and healthcare services in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak,' he said. Azizul added that the initiative aligns well with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, during which a wide range of tourism, education, and cultural programmes are expected to take place across the country. 'Last year alone, some 500,000 West Kalimantan residents entered Sarawak via land, while nearly 400,000 Malaysians travelled to West Kalimantan through the same means. 'This clearly demonstrates the strong tourism, education, and trade potential between Sarawak and West Kalimantan — a potential that will only grow stronger with improved flight connectivity,' he remarked. He noted that Sarawak and West Kalimantan share the longest land border between Malaysia and Indonesia, stretching approximately 900 kilometres. 'West Kalimantan is the only Indonesian province with the highest number of land entry points into Malaysia. These include the Tebedu–Entikong, Biawak–Aruk, and Lubok Antu–Nanga Badau crossings,' he said. Meanwhile, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) marketing director Barbara Benjamin Atan said the Sarawak Travel Fair 2025, held from July 25 to 27, aims to promote tourism, healthcare, and education ties between Sarawak and West Kalimantan. She said the event reinforces Sarawak's image as a trusted tourism partner committed to long-term collaboration, marked by the participation of over 40 delegates from Sarawak. 'STB remains committed to working closely with industry partners in West Kalimantan. We believe that with shared commitment, mutual trust and strong communication, we can build a sustainable tourism relationship that benefits both regions,' she added.
