Taylor holds off Serrano to retain belt in trilogy bout
The fighters brought women's boxing to new heights through their fierce rivalry as a sell-out crowd at the world's most famous arena watched the Irishwoman just edge out her opponent on Friday.
The judges scored the fight 95-95, 97-93 and 97-93.
Their first meeting at Madison Square Garden three years ago was billed as the biggest fight in women's boxing, as they were the first women to headline a fight at the arena.
Taylor triumphed by judges' decisions in their prior two meetings as well, including a controversial clash in November when the referee docked Taylor a point for head butts.
Taylor improved to 25-1 in a fight that perhaps wasn't as exciting as their first two, but once again was almost too close to call.
Taylor again ruled out a fourth meeting with the Puerto Rican, but was cagey when asked whether she would continue to fight.
"I don't know, I just don't want to fight Amanda Serrano again. She punches too hard," she said after the bout.
"I have a huge ton of respect for Amanda, she's such a warrior. It's a pleasure to share a ring with her.
"We have made history three times. We are history makers forever.
"I thought I was boxing very smart, she wasn't able to catch me very much tonight. But it's always close against Amanda."
Serrano (47-4-1) never really hurt Taylor this time, the expected final fight between the two, the way she did a couple times in the previous fights.
She held her hands over her eyes when the first score announced was the even card, perhaps knowing already then she hadn't done enough to pull it out.
Serrano, who has suffered three of her four professional losses to Taylor, said she had tried to work "smarter not harder".
"We tried to stay with the long punches and one twos, and it just wasn't enough," she said.
It was the same festive atmosphere in front of another sold-out crowd split between Irish and Puerto Rican fans, just the way it was when they first fought here on April 30, 2022, in what was the first women's boxing match to headline the arena.
This time, the arena hosted its first all-women's card, many of the fighters saying during the leadup they owed their opportunity to the interest created by the Taylor-Serrano trilogy.

'Great addition': Jets land new keeper for upcoming A-League season
The Newcastle Jets have bolstered their goal-keeping stocks for the upcoming A-League Men's season by signing former Adelaide United goalkeeper James Delianov. The 25-year-old, who played 60 games for the Reds across five seasons, has linked with Newcastle for the next two years. A Victorian, Delianov has spent the majority of his A-League career at the Reds, who he joined in 2020 after stints with Western United and Melbourne City, where he played just one game. The former Australian under-17s and 20s representative kept 12 clean sheets with Adelaide, but has joined the Mark Milligan era at Newcastle. Delianov will vie with home-grown keeper Noah James to be the Jets' first-choice shot-stopper. The more youthful Jordan Baylis and Oscar Archbold are also training with the top squad. "I'm excited to begin this chapter with the Newcastle Jets. I want to get started right away and immerse myself at this club and the work starts now," Delianov said in a statement released by the Jets late Wednesday. "I'm looking forward to meeting all the fans and I want to represent the Jets with pride every time I put on the jersey and give nothing short of 100 per cent." Milligan, in his first head-coaching role at Newcastle - after the club parted ways with Rob Stanton in May - continues to build his roster ahead of the 2025/26 season, which begins in October. In addition to Delianov, the Jets have added fellow experienced A-League players Max Burgess and Alex Badolato since Milligan took charge. Irish defender Joe Shaughnessy, who has been playing in the Scottish Premier League, has also signed on for the next two years. "We look forward to getting James in and on the training pitch," Milligan said. "James has a lot of potential that is still to be unlocked and will be a great addition to the squad with his ambition and determination. "We strongly believe he will add to the goal-keeping stocks we already have and create great competition in that position. "Something that we strive for across all positions in the squad." Milligan's squad began pre-season training this month. They were playing a friendly match in Sydney against one of Milligan's old NPL clubs on Wednesday night. The 2025/26 season draw will be released in coming weeks. The Jets are set to announce details of an exhibition match and other pre-season activities on Thursday. ‘Shared some things': Wallabies' inside oil
As a former British and Irish Lions lock, Wallabies assistant coach Geoff Parling has been happy to provide 'valuable' knowledge to the Australians about what to expect from the tourists ahead of Saturday night's series-opening battle at Suncorp Stadium. However, Parling hasn't overloaded the Wallabies with information, saying any 'big game' was the 'same game'. 'The circus around it is bigger, the moments in every match are a little bit more, but that's the case the higher any level you go,' said the Englishman, who was part of a Lions squad that beat the Wallabies 2-1 in the 2013 series between the teams. 'I shared some things … but I'm very wary it's not about me. 'If I can give something valuable to our players, I'll certainly do that. I've just got to make sure what I give is valuable. 'What I'm probably giving in terms of that is probably less than you think, and as we get closer to the Test, it's less and less.' Parling said the Wallabies were expecting a 'well-drilled' Lions forward pack that had become 'more cohesive' as the tour went on. The Lions were beaten 28-24 by Argentina last month in Ireland but are undefeated since arriving in Australia, chalking up wins over Western Force (54-7), Queensland Reds (52-12), NSW Waratahs (21-10), ACT Brumbies (36-24) and the AUNZ Invitational outfit (48-0). 'You find on any Lions tour, it can take a bit of time to click,' Parling said. 'Their scrum has generally been strong. Their lineout was shaky at the very start, and in general that's improved. 'I don't think that they've shown many chinks, and I'm expecting them with a full training week, with no midweek game, to be very well prepped.' Parling said star back-rower Rob Valetini was a chance to return to the Wallabies pack after missing Australia's last-start 21-18 win over Fiji with a calf injury. 'We're very hopeful that he'll be available for selection,' he said of the two-time John Eales Medal winner. 'In terms of saving people for a series, I don't think you'd ever really do that. It's more just if someone's fit and ready to perform, can they improve a team? If yeah, we'll get them out there then.' Towering lock Will Skelton's availability after overcoming his own calf problem could cause the Wallabies a selection headache. 'It certainly does (complicate things) … but it's different when Will's in there,' Parling said. 'He brings different attributes that other guys don't have, certainly around the static excursion points like scrum, the maul, and other parts of the collision.'

Race-by-race tips and preview for Newcastle on Tuesday
Selections based on a soft track. Race 1 2. Malbork Castle has hit his straps winning his past two starts in good style. He had a string of placings before scoring those two wins. He's up in distance for this but shows all the signs that he will handle it. 1. Coto De Caza was down the track against tougher opposition at Rosehill before a solid second at Kembla Grange when last produced. 5. Whisker To Whisker ran well when finishing third at Wyong three starts ago and then wasn't beaten too far despite running last at Warwick Farm. She was safely held in the Winter Cup at Rosehill last time out but will find this much easier. 3. Whetu is a tough stayer at best and could get into the placings from the good draw. How to play it: Malbork Castle to win. Race 2 6. Cellarmaster is a Bivouac gelding on debut on the back of three barrier trials. He's had two recent hit-outs leading into this, and won the last of them at Canterbury. He's drawn wide but looks to have the talent to run a bold race. 9. Hillier is resuming from a spell on the back of two trials, and he finished second in the last of them at Randwick. He ran second on debut in the Canonbury Stakes and looms as a leading chance. 3. Firework has been placed in two of four starts and has drawn the inside here. 10. Sunburnt Country resumes after two trials and is far from the worst. How to play it: Cellarmaster each way. Race 3 8. Samarelle is a Savabeel filly having her first start here. She's had two trials and comes in this after a second in a Canterbury hit-out. She's from a form stable and should take plenty of beating. 6. The Stars has been placed in two of four starts in city grade and can sprint well first up from a spell. 4. Say Yes is a stablemate of The Stars on debut after a number of trials. 7. Organics can improve on a resuming seventh at Sale. How to play it: Samarelle each way. Race 4 5. Starry Desert is an Irish import having his first Australian run. He's been placed in two of four starts and has had two trials in preparation, running second in the latest of them. 14. Skirmish ran well in two trials before making her debut with a fourth on the Kensington track. She can run well with a repeat. 7. Invisible Magic has been placed in all four starts to date and warrants plenty of thought again. 10. Shanoni is yet to be placed from four starts, but has shown enough to be rated a minor money hope here. How to play it: Starry Desert each way.
