Fantasy Baseball Weekend Preview: Lopsided matchups provide ample streaming opportunities

Diamondbacks vs. Rockies: The D-backs once again have one of the best offenses in baseball, which puts them in prime position to dominate a Rockies pitching staff that ranks last in baseball with a 5.73 ERA. With all three Colorado starters throwing from the right side, lefty slugger Pavin Smith (16%) is the most obvious man to add. Lourdes Gurriel (46%) and Gabriel Moreno (29%) are the other two Arizona hitters who deserve strong consideration.
Cubs vs. White Sox: The Cubs rank second in baseball in runs scored, and they should hold that lofty ranking when they face their rebuilding crosstown rivals this weekend. Unfortunately, the team's success means that recently promoted catching prospect Moisés Ballesteros (8%) is the only player to add in deeper formats. In 10-team leagues, Michael Busch (58%) is an easy streamer to add, especially with the White Sox set to use three right-handed starters. And those who rotate Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner between their bench and lineup should make sure that they are active this weekend.
Reds vs. Guardians: The Reds will benefit from working at their hitter-friendly home park this weekend, as well as by facing three Cleveland right-handers who either have limited skills or are off to a disappointing start. Managers should consider adding catcher Tyler Stephenson (34%) who would have been widely rostered if he didn't open the season on the IL. In 12-team leagues, Austin Hays (24%) and Gavin Lux (21%) are worth a look.
Tigers @ Blue Jays: Toronto's bullpen has been running on fumes in recent weeks, and their three weakest starters are on the schedule this weekend. All three hurlers throw from the right side, which makes four-position lefty Zach McKinstry (42%) a serviceable option. Youngster Colt Keith (20%) has shown notable signs of improvement during May.
Dodgers vs. Angels: The Dodgers should once against prove to be miles ahead of the Angels when they meet for a crosstown series this weekend. The Angels are planning to start lefties in two games, which gives Enrique Hernandez (8%) a good chance to hit a home run. Andy Pages (59%) should continue to gain momentum in 10-team leagues.
Padres vs. Mariners: This is a rare occasion where hitters will be recommended against a Mariners staff that is usually among the most successful in baseball. But this weekend Seattle will use three replacement starters for an injury ravaged rotation. Jake Cronenworth (33%) can be added in many leagues, and with multiple Seattle starters throwing from the right side, Gavin Sheets (16%) is also a good option.
Athletics @ Giants: The Athletics are likely to have less success when working away from their hitter-friendly home park, and they will also run into a solid trio of San Francisco starters. Managers should think twice before starting players not named Brent Rooker or Lawrence Butler.
Red Sox vs. Braves: Although a handful of Red Sox hitters are too good to be placed on the bench, it's worth noting that the team may not have their best success when facing Chris Sale and Spencer Schwellenbach in two of this weekend's games. Trevor Story should be benched in most leagues, and there is a case to take a second look at Wilyer Abreu and Kristian Campbell for the next three days.
Mets @ Yankees: Although the Mets might enjoy the homer-happy nature of Yankee Stadium, they will first need to make contact against two effective lefties and a decent right-hander. Brandon Nimmo should not be active during this series, and it is also a good weekend to bench any Mets other than Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso.
Shelby Miller, Diamondbacks, 27%: Thanks to his stellar start to the season (1.45 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) and injuries to Justin Martinez and A.J. Puk, Miller has emerged as the temporary saves favorite in Arizona. And this is a good time to be the D-backs closer, as they will spend the weekend facing the 7-36 Rockies. It would not be surprising to see Miller earn multiple saves.
Chandler Simpson, Rays, 27%: This one is too easy. Simpson became one of the fastest runners and best base stealers in MLB the moment the Rays called him up last month. He could swipe multiple bags this weekend, when Tampa faces a Marlins squad that has allowed 17 more steals than any other team. Jose Caballero (7%) is another easy Rays player to add if you're looking for steals.

It got late early Saturday night, as the Cubs jumped on Brayan Bello for three runs thru two innings and never gave up a run on the way to a 6-0 victory. About the only thing that went right was keeping Reese McGuire hitless. He can get his own jollies. Three Studs Bryan Bello Yes, he got knocked around early, but he was in command after that, looking incredibly strong late, ending with those same 3 runs thru 6. What are ya gonna do? Masa Yoshida He had two hits. Abraham Toro He also had two hits, and a nifty play at first. Three Duds Chris Murphy The game was basically over when he came in, but gettin' taken deep three times in an inning isn't what you want. Reese McGuire Sad. Not Seeing Ryan Brasier He pitched the ninth. Marge is proud. Chicago Cubs have the best record in MLB after Shota Imanaga's gem and 5 solo home runs fuel 6-0 win
Shota Imanaga pitched twice in seven days against the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The left-hander racked up two wins, allowing a combined one run on seven hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts in 14 innings against the two storied teams. 'He's one of the best pitchers in the world,' Cubs first baseman Michael Busch said of Imanaga. And the Cubs are the best team in Major League Baseball after Imanaga tossed seven shutout innings Saturday night in a 6-0 win over the Red Sox in front of 40,703 at Wrigley Field. The Cubs (59-39) hit five solo home runs to back Imanaga in surpassing the Detroit Tigers (59-40) for the majors' best record. Leadoff hitter Busch hit the first pitch from Brayan Bello for his 20th home run of the season. Four pitches later, Kyle Tucker went deep for his 18th. Matt Shaw (third), Pete Crow-Armstrong (26th) and Ian Happ (13th) added late blasts to pad the lead and guarantee a series win. The Red Sox (53-47) came to Wrigley on Friday riding a 10-game winning streak but have managed only one run in 18 innings. The Cubs won the opener 4-1. Red Sox leadoff hitter Rob Refsnyder greeted Imanaga (7-3) with a first-pitch double, but Alex Bregman grounded out, then Imanaga struck out Romy Gonzalez and Roman Anthony to end the inning. 'It's mentally tough when that first pitch gets hit — especially for a double,' Imanaga said through an interpreter. 'At that moment, I thought that it's OK if I gave up a run. It's more important to stack up outs.' The Cubs are 32-10 in Imanaga's starts over two seasons. In five starts since, he has pitched even better than he did before the injury, going 4-1 with a 1.78 ERA. 'Look, when you miss six or seven weeks, you don't expect to come back in peak form,' Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. 'It happens, but it's hard to do. But he's pitched really well. 'And that's the nature of pitching. You get locked in for 90 pitches and the next start doesn't promise you anything. You have to get locked in again. Shota is just so good at getting people out.' While the Cubs could not match their record eight-home-run performance against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 4, the five-homer game was still impressive. It's the fifth time this season they hit five or more home runs in a game.

Cubs takes it over Red Sox in shutout victory 6-0
All-Star Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 26th homer, one of five solo shots for the Cubs to back seven sharp innings by Shota Imanaga, and Chicago beat the Boston Red Sox 6-0 on Saturday night. Michael Busch, Kyle Tucker, Matt Shaw, and Ian Happ also connected for the Cubs, who moved a season-best 20 games over .500 and have the best record in the majors at 59-39. Imanaga (7-3) allowed five hits, struck out five, walked on,e and lowered his ERA to 2.40. The 31-year-old, second-year left-hander from Japan improved to 22-6 in the majors. Busch and Tucker led off the game with back-to-back homers against Brayan Bello (6-4). Shaw had a pinch-hit homer in the seventh against reliever Chris Murphy, and Crow-Armstrong and Happ went back-to-back against Murphy in the eighth. Brad Keller struck out the side in the eighth and Ryan Brasier worked the ninth for his first save since 2023 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. With two outs in the seventh, Imanaga allowed back-to-back singles to Masataka Yoshida and Abraham Toro, and Yoshida took third on Imanaga's throwing error. Imanaga induced a shallow fly ball from Connor Wong to end the inning. The Cubs went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position. Garrett Crochet (10-4, 2.23 ERA) will try to help the Red Sox avoid a three-game sweep on Sunday. The Cubs had not announced a starter.
