Railways to release first reservation chart more than eight hours before train's departure
Indian Railways
will now prepare the first reservation chart by previous evening at 9 pm for trains departing between 5 am to 2 pm. Further, first reservation charts for trains departing after 2 pm to 5 am next morning will be prepared eight hours in advance, with the changes being implemented in a phased manner.
In an official statement, the Ministry of
Railways
said the current practice of preparing reservation charts four hours before train departure creates uncertainty in the minds of passengers.
The new timeline will greatly help passengers with waitlisted tickets. Such passengers will now get the first update on waitlist status well in advance.

It will especially benefit passengers travelling from remote locations or suburbs of major cities to catch long distance trains. It will also provide more time to make alternative arrangements in case the waitlisted ticket is not confirmed, the statement said.
In another passenger-centric move, the railways announced complete rehaul of passenger reservation system (PRS) by December.

The new PRS will allow over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, around five times more than the current capacity of 32,000 tickets per minute.
Under the new PRS, ticket inquiry capacity will increase 10-fold, from 4 lakh to over 40 lakh enquiries per minute. The system will also have a multilingual and user-friendly booking and inquiry interface.
The decisions were made at a review meeting chaired by Vaishnaw last week. Officials said the project has been under execution by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) over the last few months.

Pune: Travel operators are witnessing a surge in bus bookings owing to the flexibility and reliability of transport, the convenience of access to hill stations, and cost-effectiveness. Track Machine Derails Near Nerul, Disrupts Harbour Line Services
Mumbai: Hundreds of commuters were left in the lurch when a track relaying train (TRT) used during the megablock derailed near Nerul station on Central Railway's Harbour line on Sunday, leading to suspension of services on both Up (towards CSMT) and Down (away from CSMT) lines between Vashi and Panvel. A resident of Nerul stated that many commuters were stranded for almost the entire day as the services were hit during the megablock from 11am onwards and even after the block period. The inconvenience continued till the time of going to press. However, Harbour line services were not completely paralysed and were operational on the following rail corridors: CSMT to Vashi, Belapur to Panvel and Thane to Nerul on Trans Harbour line, as per a senior official. Prayers held at Holy Tree in Arunachal's Kinzamani to mark Dalai Lama's 90th b'day
Guwahati: A prayer for the long life of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, was organised at the Holy Tree, named Gurusheng at Kinzamani in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday to mark his 90th birthday. The Dalai Lama had escaped from Tibet in 1959. He had rested at Kinzamani, where the Holy Tree grew from his walking stick that he left on a stone. He arrived in India on March 31, 1959, with a wooden stick, which he used as a walking staff while entering India through Zemithang and was received by the Indian security forces at Survashamba, 2 km from Kinzamani. "Prayer for his long life was organised beneath the Gurusheng tree by the lamas of Zemithang, along with other guests and dignitaries, including the public of Zemithang Circle," said Lama Kalzang Lhundrub, secretary of Gorzam Stupa Culture Centre. "The Dalai Lama had placed the walking stick on a stone and left it there. Local Monpas later recognised it as a branch of the Gurusheng tree. The tree now bears fruit and is fully grown. It has already become a major centre of attraction," he added. Last year, 18,000 tourists visited this tree. "This tree is the biggest attraction in Zemithang and a landmark of spiritual tourism.
