Saudi Arabia to Broadcast Arafat Sermon Live in 34 Global Languages
The Arafat Sermon, delivered on the Day of Arafat, represents a key ritual of the Hajj pilgrimage. Millions of Muslims worldwide follow this significant event. On 5 June, more than two million pilgrims from around the globe will gather on the plains of Mount Arafat to perform the Day of Arafat, engaging in supplication and prayer.
Comprehensive Translation Project
In an official announcement, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque confirmed the completion of preparations for the Arafat sermon translation project. This year, the Grand Imam of the Holy Mosques, Sheikh Saleh al Humaid, will deliver the sermon from Masjid Namirah.
The project aims to convey Islam's message of tolerance to a global audience in their native languages. This initiative fosters better communication between Muslims and non-Muslims, highlighting the Kingdom's pivotal role in serving the two holy mosques.
The project will provide real-time translation of the Arafat sermon in over 34 languages, making it one of the largest initiatives of the Hajj season. The authority emphasized that this effort underscores Saudi Arabia's unwavering commitment to supporting pilgrims worldwide.
A key feature of the project includes the integration of Quick Response (QR) codes. These codes will offer easy access to both textual and audio translations, enhancing the experience for pilgrims.
Languages Available for Broadcast
The Arafat Sermon will be broadcast in the following 34 languages: Arabic, Urdu, English, French, Indonesian, Persian (Farsi), Hausa, Chinese (Mandarin), Russian, Bengali, Turkish, Malay (Bahasa Melayu), Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Filipino (Tagalog), Amharic (Ethiopia), Bosnian, Hindi, Dutch, Thai, Malayalam, Swahili, Pashto, Tamil, Azerbaijani, Swedish, Uzbek, Albanian, Fulani (Fula), Somali, Rohingya, and Yoruba. This extensive range enables pilgrims to listen to the sermon in their respective languages, regardless of their location.
To expand the reach and amplify the impact of this service, authorities will display QR codes on screens in key facilities, buses, and pilgrim accommodations. Additionally, the government has promoted the service through various media platforms and shared it with international media in coordination with the Saudi Ministry of Media.
This initiative represents a significant milestone in Hajj history, showcasing Saudi Arabia's commitment to leveraging technology for religious services. By providing real-time translations, the Kingdom ensures that the spiritual experience of Hajj is accessible to all pilgrims, regardless of their linguistic background. Pakistan seeks higher 2026 Hajj quota after 455,000 register for pilgrimage
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's religious affairs minister, Sardar Mohammad Yousaf, said on Tuesday the country has requested a higher Hajj quota in proportion to its population for the next year from Saudi Arabia, after early registrations for the pilgrimage reached 455,000 this month. Pakistan's current Muslim population is approximately 230 million, according to the latest census cited by the minister. He added the government had urged the Kingdom to raise the country's Hajj quota from 179,210 to 230,000 in a formal letter, aiming to enable more citizens to perform the annual Islamic pilgrimage. "A gazette notification has ... been issued regarding the population, so based on that population, our [Hajj] quota should be 230,000," Yousaf said during a news conference. "For this, we've written to the Saudi government and demanded [an increase], and a letter has been sent [to them] by the Ministry of Religious Affairs," he continued. "We hope they will consider this [request] and adjust our quota in proportion to our population." Yousaf highlighted that the registration of 455,000 intending pilgrims by the deadline reflected their strong eagerness to perform Hajj. The government announced the initiation of next year's Hajj process early, asking aspiring pilgrims to register themselves first. No fee was required at the registration stage. All registered applicants will now be able to choose between the government and private Hajj schemes. A large portion of the private Hajj quota for 2025 remained unutilized due to delays by tour operators in meeting payment and registration deadlines, while the government fulfilled its full allocation of over 88,000 pilgrims. Private operators attributed the shortfall to technical issues, including payment processing problems and communication breakdowns.

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has formally requested Saudi Arabia to increase its Hajj pilgrims' quota to 230,000, Pakistan's Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said this week, according to state-run media, as the country hopes more people can perform the annual Islamic pilgrimage. Pakistan received a quota of 179,210 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia for Hajj 2025, evenly divided between the government and private Hajj operators. For this year's pilgrimage, Islamabad has already concluded the registration process, with state media reporting that the country has received over 450,000 Hajj applications in total. 'He [Yousaf] noted that Pakistan has formally requested the Saudi government to increase the Hajj quota to 230,000, in proportion to the country's population to allow more people to undertake the pilgrimage,' the state-run Pakistan Television News reported on Sunday. The minister was on a visit to Darul Uloom Mansehra where he attended a reception in his honor. Yousaf said the increase in the number of people registering for Hajj 2026, over 450,000, reflects that the trust of the public has been restored in Pakistan's religious affairs ministry.
