Search and annoy: Harrington, NBC's Maltbie caught in tiff over lost ball at US Senior Open
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — A video of Padraig Harrington arguing with NBC on-course reporter Roger Maltbie for not helping him look for a lost ball during his opening round is generating buzz at the U.S. Senior Open.
'Never on a golf course stand and look at somebody looking for a golf ball,' Harrington is seen telling Maltbie on video captured by a local TV reporter outside the scoring area. 'You've played golf all your life. You understand.'
The argument stemmed from Thursday's round, when Harrington teed off into a thicket of trees on the 15th hole. After about a dozen people unsuccessfully searched for the allowed three minutes, Harrington went back to the tee box for his third shot. He ended up saving bogey, and went into the weekend tied for the lead.
Maltbie, the longtime on-course reporter who played on the PGA Tour in the 1970s and '80s, was in the area. He told Golf.com on Saturday he was being asked to report on the scenario and couldn't step away from his job to help in the search.
A day after the episode, Harrington and Maltbie aired out their differences near the scoring area.
Maltbie can be heard telling Harrington, 'So I should have disobeyed my producer?'

This whole idea that I don't do [media], I mean, I've looked up how many times I've finished second. It's not once," Morikawa said. "Keeps standing up and sticking his foot into his mouth. The reporters aren't the problem, nor are the caddies... wonder who the constant is...," one fan wrote on X. San Diego's Tomás Ángel comes through in stoppage time for 3-2 win over Dallas
Associated Press FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Tomas Angel scored late in second-half stoppage time and MLS Western Conference-leading San Diego FC rallied to defeat FC Dallas 3-2 on Saturday night. Ángel, a second-half substitute, scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the upper left central zone. The goal was assisted by Anders Dreyer, with a second assist by Jasper Loffelsend. Expansion San Diego (39 points, 12-5-3) trailed 2-1 early in the second half and didn't draw even until the 77th minute when Hirving Lozano scored with a left-footed shot from the center of the box to the central bottom zone. He was assisted by Milan Iloski, with a second assist by Dreyer. Dreyer, who finished with a goal and two assists, scored the first goal of the match with Anders Dreyer with a penalty in the 26th minute. Petar Musa of Dallas scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner, making it 1-all in the 44th minute. Sebastian Lletget made it 2-1 for Dallas when he scored with a left-footed shot from the center of the box in the 56th minute. (AP) — Home-state favorite Chase Elliott passed Brad Keselowski on the final lap and won the the crash-filled NASCAR Cup Series at Atlanta on Saturday night for his 20th career victory. Elliott, the popular driver from Dawsonville, Georgia, earned a spot in the NASCAR playoffs with his first victory since April 2024 at Texas. It was his first win in Atlanta since 2022. 'I've never in my whole life, this is unbelievable,' Elliott said. 'This is something I'll remember the rest of my life.' The race's second crash early in Stage 2 took out many of the sport's biggest names and left others with damaged cars. Pole-winner Joey Logano, who led the first 36 laps before light rain forced the first caution, was among the many drivers caught up in the big crash. Among others knocked out of the race: William Byron, Austin Cindric, Ross Chastain, Josh Berry, Corey LaJoie and Daniel Suarez. 'It wrecked the whole field,' Logano said. 'I still don't know exactly how it started ... but it was total chaos. Cars were sideways and on the brakes. I got hit from every corner possible.' Added Denny Hamlin, who suffered damage to his Toyota in the crash: 'Some zigged. Some zagged. Most crashed.' Weather woes Lightning and rain delayed qualifying Friday and the Xfinity race won by Nick Sanchez late Friday night. More lightning and rain threatened Saturday night's race. Fans were encouraged to leave the stands about 90 minutes before the race due to severe weather in the area but were allowed to return as pre-race were conducted as planned.
