5 Samsung DeX features I'll miss if they don't return in One UI 8

I'll admit it: I've never been the biggest Samsung DeX user. Not because I don't like it — I think it's the gold standard for casting your phone to an external display — but because I spend far too much time with non-Samsung phones in my pocket. The funny thing is that every time I leave the Galaxy ecosystem behind, that's precisely when I need DeX most. And now that it's about to undergo significant changes as part of One UI 8, I'm a little worried. I don't want to lose certain DeX features, even if it ultimately leads to a better experience in Android's Desktop mode. Here's what I'm not looking forward to losing: Lock DeX and Exit DeX saved my clumsiness Hadlee Simons / Android Authority Like I said, I'm not the biggest DeX user — it just comes with the territory of switching phones dozens of times per year. Unfortunately, that often means I forget the rules of how it's supposed to work, accidentally quitting out of DeX when I only meant to rearrange a window or two to make my life a little bit easier. Thankfully, Samsung had a solution: The ability to lock myself into DeX or only exit via a button in the app drawer. Right now, my most-used feature in DeX is a handy little button called Lock DeX. Honestly, it's as simple as it sounds, making it so that I can't exit DeX unless I use biometrics to unlock my Galaxy S25, but it's become essential for my needs. It's saved my bacon (or at least a few minutes' worth of work) more times than I can count, keeping me from having to reopen windows and figure out layouts based on my own mix-up. If I were Google, I'd take notice. Android 16's Desktop mode needs a way to keep clumsy users like me in mind, and I think copying Lock DeX is the easiest way to do it. Either that, or copy Exit DeX and make sure that I physically press a button before my phone stops casting. MultiStar's I❤️ Samsung DeX made Good Lock worth it Ryan Haines / Android Authority Although I don't usually like to download or use Good Lock, I'm willing to make an exception when it comes to DeX. See, my problems typically center around the fact that Good Lock is too essential for basics like fleshing out the Galaxy Z Flip's Flex Window, but it's far more useful when it comes to DeX. It opens up the number of apps I can run at any one time and opening a previous app quickly, and now it seems like Samsung will take that away. Luckily, the I❤️Samsung DeX plugin isn't totally going away — it'll stick around for the 'High resolutions for external display' option, which lets you make the most of your Galaxy device's crisp resolution, but not much else. I would have much rather it kept the 'Run many apps at same time' feature, which makes DeX a viable way for me to work across Chrome, Slack, Spotify, Lightroom, and a few others when I need it to stand in for my laptop in a pinch, but my best guess right now is that it'll have to come back as part of a future update. At the very least, I can only hope that Android 16's Desktop mode eventually gains Chrome OS's Continue where you left off feature, allowing me to reopen the apps I used the last time I quit out of DeX. Please don't force me into a permanent taskbar Ryan Haines / Android Authority While my first two picks have been things I don't want Samsung to take away from me, the next thing I need out of DeX in One UI 8 is to keep my current taskbar flexibility. Right now, the taskbar is just about perfect — it appears when I need it to, but disappears when I'm watching a full-screen video or otherwise making the most of my much larger display. In the earliest version of One UI 8, though, it looks like that's about to change. As my colleague Mishaal Rahman figured out, the taskbar and app header are about to become permanent. That means even if you're watching a full-screen YouTube video, catching up on our brand-new C Scott Brown channel (give my fellow Pixel-lover a follow), you'll always see your taskbar full of apps along the bottom edge. It's a little bit less noticeable if you've set your app icons to match your wallpaper, but still not my favorite look when I'd much rather be focused on a video telling me all about the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7. I need to be able to pin apps to my desktop Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority By now, I hope you've realized that I'm no DeX pro. I accidentally exit out of it, I keep trying to modify it, and I sometimes have issues with how it handles full-screen content. Worse, I also find that I lose apps in DeX if I'm trying to do too many things at once. So, you can imagine my relief when I realized that Samsung lets me pin apps to the top of my stack just to ensure they aren't lost in the shuffle. And, just like everything else on this list, that might be changing. Right now, the pin feature is missing from One UI 8, meaning every app is created equal and could easily get lost somewhere in the middle of my busy to-do list. For some people, that might be fine — especially if they only do one or two things in DeX at a time — but not me. I want to be able to bounce between several tasks, but I know that I need to have Slack visible at all times, which I can only really do with the pin feature. If I right-click, I want it to do, well, something Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority Last but not least, I grew up as a Windows kid. I remember using everything from Windows Vista as a little kid to Windows 8 in high school and Windows 10 in college. Through every single version, I had one feature I could always count on: The right click. It's the fastest way to organize my desktop, access quick settings, and banish things to the recycling bin without having to drag and drop. So, when I found that Samsung's classic DeX experience supported the same gesture, I was hooked. I mean, copying a feature I've been using ever since I learned my way around a computer is one of the easiest ways to ensure I keep using your software, so someone at Samsung must have listened closely. I'm a Windows kid, I need my right-click. In its current DeX implementation, right-clicking on the taskbar opens taskbar settings, while a click on the desktop lets you sort your apps, clean up the desktop, or adjust your screen zoom. I only use the first two features, mostly out of my deep need to stay organized, but I can still appreciate that control over zoom is there. I'm sure one day I'll need that one, too, but it won't be as easy if One UI 8 has its way. It seems like most of Samsung's right-click controls are on their way out, and I'm not sure if they'll be replaced by something like a long-press gesture or if Android 16's Desktop mode will just be slightly annoying about a feature that could be so simple. Then again, we've also seen that Samsung is determined to preserve a lot of its DeX features, including its S Pen integration, wallpaper settings, and wireless display options, so maybe there's still time for it to rescue a few of my favorites before we get too far away from what made DeX great. Why Income Alone Won't Make You Rich, But Your Business Can

Why Income Alone Won't Make You Rich, But Your Business Can When you start a business, you are likely thinking of one goal, and that's to create an income. But income alone does not create wealth. You can create true wealth when you stop looking at your business as a job that brings you income and start looking at it as an asset that grows in value, generates long-term returns, and can create generational wealth for you. When you view your business as an asset, your mindset shifts. You start to think of ways your business can build wealth for you that goes beyond working to get paid. You are building an asset that provides equity, scalability, and value beyond your day-to-day involvement. The mindset shift changes how you make business decisions, from pricing and profitability to branding and leadership. And it's the key to moving from self-employed to being a business owner that builds wealth, not just income. Why Building Wealth Through a Business is Powerful Business ownership gives you leverage that a 9-to-5 job never can. As an employee your income is capped by a salary or hourly rate. As a business owner, there's no ceiling. That means that all your efforts, creativity, and strategy directly impact how much you can earn. You control your pricing, your growth strategy, and the opportunities that you create. Profits from your business can be reinvested into the business to grow the value of the business. Every dollar you put back into your business, whether through marketing, hiring, or improving operations, has the potential to multiply your returns. This business growth builds equity, and equity is where the wealth is. Because your business is an asset, one of the most powerful moves you can make to build wealth is to sell or exit your business. This can create a life-changing financial event. When you add in the tax benefits that come with business ownership like deductions and income-splitting strategies, it's clear why entrepreneurship is one of the most effective paths to building long-term wealth. Common Mistakes that Keep a Business from Becoming an Asset If you want to build wealth from your business, it's essential that you avoid these common mistakes: It's tempting to spend the cash in your business but those are profits that can be reinvested back into your business for growth. By spending profits you are holding back business growth and reducing future value. Building a true asset that can provide you a saleable business requires that you build your business so that it can run without you. This will increase the value of your business exponentially. Without a clear growth plan, solid financial management, and exit strategy, your business remains just a job rather than a wealth-building asset. The bottom line is that building wealth through your business isn't about working harder. You can create an asset that provides lasting value. When you treat your business as an asset, every decision you make will focus on profitability and add to equity. With the right strategy and mindset, your business can become not just a source of income, but a powerful wealth-building tool.

The One Question To Ask Yourself So You Can Get The Most Out Of AI

Photo credit AI is a force unlike anything we've experienced in our lifetimes. It's generating both exuberant excitement and a fair amount of fear. Regardless of the emotions it's eliciting, AI is pervasive and is becoming an integral part of virtually every aspect of business. According to PwC's Pulse Survey, 'Nearly half (49%) of technology leaders said that AI was fully integrated into their companies' core business strategy and a third said AI was fully integrated into products and services.' But how thoroughly have you integrated AI into your work processes? What if one simple question could transform the way you think about and engage with AI? These Key Facts About AI Are Undeniable Over the past few years, we've all been in learning mode when it comes to AI. We've discovered a few essential truths about this impactful, evolving technology. I've never heard anyone say, 'AI is just not that impressive.' In fact, most professionals I meet can't wait to share how it has helped them in so many ways. Whether it's drafting a complex client proposal in minutes, generating a dozen compelling headline options for an email marketing campaign, or instantly summarizing a 30-page industry report into three bullet points, AI has wowed those who use it. Once you've seen what AI can do and the speed at which it works, it's hard to ignore its potential. Although many think AI is best at tasks that involve writing, like crafting challenging emails, producing a weekly newsletter, or writing an article for a trade publication. But AI is actually helpful in so many ways, it's impossible to list them all here. As we engage with AI, we learn that it can help us devise a strategy for growing product revenue with a new audience, build a complete learning program on the topic of leadership for health care executives, and create an entire social media campaign for multiple platforms. Despite the pervasive fear of AI and the big questions we have, 'Will AI take over my job?' How do we handle hallucinations?', and 'Can AI turn against us or corrupt society?', there's no turning back. This generative genie is out of the bottle, and it's not going back in. The rapid adoption of AI tells us that it's no longer an experiment. AI is embedded into how business happens. As people experiment with AI, they're starting to realize that they get the best out of AI when they get specific. They also know that they need to build a relationship with their preferred AI tool to get customized output that will be most helpful to them. That relationship requires giving AI feedback, feeding it context, and making sure it gets to know your goals, preferences, and style so it can deliver more accurate and personalized results. To maximize the power and impact of AI and leverage it fully, be prepared to integrate it into all relevant activities. The best way to make the most of AI is to do this: Before starting any project or activity, ask yourself this question: How can AI help with this? That question is subtly different from 'Can AI help?'. The latter gives us the opportunity to say, nah, that's probably not something AI can do. The former assumes that AI can play a role. And for a lot of what you have on your to-do list, AI can make a meaningful contribution. If you can't readily come up with the answer to that question on your own, ask AI the question. You'll likely get a bulleted list of possibilities. Why Asking This Question About AI Matters Now AI is advancing at breakneck speed, becoming more capable and accessible with each passing day. Those who consistently ask, 'How can AI help?' are learning faster, working smarter, and positioning themselves as innovative, future-focused professionals. The question is less about productivity and more about relevance. And if you are a leader, you can help your people remain relevant. AI expert Matt Strain said, 'One of the most powerful signals a leader can send is asking, 'How did you use AI to shape this?' It sets the expectation that responsible AI use isn't a shortcut—it's a skill.' What's The Risk Of Not Asking Yourself This Powerful AI Question? If you're not actively looking for ways AI can support your work, you risk falling behind. Not because AI will replace you, but because someone who knows how to use AI will build a competitive advantage. Forgetting to ask this question creates blind spots. Embracing it opens up new levels of creativity, efficiency, and opportunity while helping you bolster your personal brand. Asking that one simple question can change your standard operating system and inspire you to engage in AI more frequently and productively. It will enable you to adopt a future-focused mindset that integrates AI into all relevant work and life activities. That will help you: Asking 'How Can AI Help?' Is The Simplest Way To Thrive At Work Today By saying nothing, you risk getting left behind. Asking 'How can AI help?' ushers in a mindset aligned with reality that equips you to lead, not react, as AI reshapes your job and industry. To get in the habit of infusing AI into every activity that makes sense, start each day, each project, and each task with that question. The more you learn what AI is capable of, the more it becomes a trusted partner and support system for delivering on-brand work. And the more your AI platform gets to know you, the more valuable it will become. And as a bonus, you'll also understand where your true human skills are important, valuable, and irreplaceable by AI.
