Official: Al-Ahly and Pyramids FC in the Champions League

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) notified the Confederation of African Football (CAF) of the participation of Al-Ahly and Pyramids FC in the new edition of the CAF Champions League, as the first and second placed teams in the Egyptian Premier League competition last season (2024-25). Zamalek, the Egypt Cup champion, and Al-Masry, the fourth-placed team in the league table, will also participate in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association set August 8 as the start date for the new 2025-26 Premier League season, following its recent meeting with the EFA and the heads of the Premier League clubs, and after agreement with the EFA and Hossam Hassan, the national team coach.
The Egyptian Football Association announced the end of the Egyptian Premier League in May 2026. This is the second consecutive season in which the association has fulfilled its pledge to finish the competition in line with the schedules of the major European leagues, following years of confusion and postponements that disrupted the league's schedule.
The league's start date, set for August 8th instead of the 15th, was brought forward so that players can play three or four rounds with their clubs before the national team's training camp in September to resume its 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The league also aims to end the competition well before the World Cup, allowing the national team to set up its training camp in preparation for the tournament in a timely manner. This comes as part of the Egyptian Football Association and the association's efforts to provide the national team with every means of comfort and success.
The new season will see the participation of 21 teams, following the decision to abolish relegation last season. The league will be held in a two-stage format, with the first stage being played in a single-round league format. The teams will then be divided into two groups: a crowning group, which includes the teams competing for the title and continental championship qualifying spots, and a relegation group, which will compete to remain in the league.

Pogba signs for Monaco, hoping to revive career - World
Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco to return to football after a near two-year absence, the club announced on Saturday. The 2018 World Cup winner has made only 12 appearances across the last three seasons due to injuries, an 18-month doping ban and an extortion case in which he was the victim. Pogba failed a drugs test in August 2023 after a match for Juventus and has been free to return to football since March, although his contract at the Italian giants had been terminated last year. The midfielder will now play club football in Ligue 1 for the first time in his professional career. "I am determined to get back on the pitch, mentally ready, physically ready, it's just a matter of time," the 32-year-old told French television last weekend. Pogba played in the Le Havre youth team before signing for Manchester United in 2009. He made only a handful of first-team appearances for the three-time European champions before signing for Juventus in 2012. Pogba won four consecutive Serie A titles in Turin before rejoining United for a then-world record 105 million euros ($123 million). He moved back to Juventus three years ago but struggled with a series of injuries. In 2024, his brother Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his role in a plot to extort 13 million euros from Pogba in 2022. Pogba has scored 11 goals in 91 appearances for the France national team, playing a starring role and scoring in their World Cup final victory over Croatia seven years ago. His new club Monaco will play in the Champions League next season after finishing third in Ligue 1 last term. Monaco close in on Fati loan signing from Barcelona - World
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is expected to join French club Monaco on loan with an option to buy, sources close to the deal said Friday. The 22-year-old Spanish international passed his medical on Friday as Monaco and Barcelona agreed to a season-long loan deal with an 11-million-euro fee ($12.9 million) to make the move permanent. According to the same source, the contract will not be made official until July 1. Fati burst onto the scene at Barcelona aged 17, but has since failed to live up to initial high expectations. He made 11 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga champions last term, without finding the net. Fati spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Premier League club Brighton, where he scored four goals in 27 outings. With his expected arrival, Fati should become Monaco's third signing of the summer. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is slated to sign for the Ligue 1 side, following on from England international Eric Dier. Pogba was also undergoing a medical with the principality side on Friday. Olivier Giroud to leave MLS side LAFC - World
Olivier Giroud, France's all-time top goalscorer, and Los Angeles FC have mutually agreed to part ways, the MLS club announced on Friday. The 38-year-old striker, who joined LAFC in May 2024 from AC Milan, will play his last match for the team on Sunday against Vancouver. "Olivier has been an exemplary professional during his time at LAFC," team co-president and general manager John Thorrington said. "He brought humility and a winning mentality that helped elevate everyone around him." Giroud has been heavily linked with a move to Ligue 1 club Lille, according to several media reports in France. Giroud helped LAFC reach the 2024 Leagues Cup final, where he scored his first goal for the club. He also scored in the 2024 US Open Cup final, helping LAFC win the trophy for the first time. "I want to thank all of the fans, my teammates and the staff at LAFC for making this an enjoyable stop in my career," Giroud said. "I am happy to have played a part in the success of LAFC." Giroud has scored nearly 300 goals in more than 700 club matches, winning major trophies at Montpellier, Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan. The 2018 World Cup winner leads France's all-time scoring charts with 57 goals.
