Selangor Orang Asli festival to highlight culture, arts and tourism
Scheduled for Aug 9 at Kampung Orang Asli Kelinsing in Sepang, the event aligns with the 2025 International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
State Executive Councillor for Human Resources and Poverty Eradication V. Papparaidu emphasised the festival's role in preserving Orang Asli heritage.
He noted that the Temuan, Mah Meri, and Semai ethnic groups will showcase their unique customs, including Sewang and Jo'oh dances, Mah Meri wood carvings, and ancestral rituals.
The festival also aims to boost eco-tourism by promoting Orang Asli villages as cultural destinations.
Papparaidu highlighted the state's commitment to empowering the community through education, arts, and entrepreneurship.
'This event raises awareness of Orang Asli rights while providing economic opportunities,' he said during a press conference at Wisma Negeri Selangor.
Selangor is home to over 20,000 Orang Asli individuals across 74 villages.
The Mah Meri community of Carey Island has gained international acclaim for their craftsmanship, reflecting the broader potential of indigenous enterprises. - Bernama

Doulos Hope Draws 25,000 Visitors, Boosts Labuan's Economy
LABUAN, July 25 (Bernama) -- The arrival of Doulos Hope, the floating bookstore ship, has not only captivated the imagination of the Labuan community but also brought significant cultural and economic benefits, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. The Minister noted that the ship has attracted a continuous stream of visitors ranging from children and students to senior citizens and tour groups. 'I witnessed for myself the non-stop flow of people boarding the ship, all excited to explore what Doulos Hope offers…it is heartening to see the sense of curiosity and unity this vessel has brought to our shores,' she said. Dr Zaliha also highlighted the economic spillover sparked by the visit, as the ship's international crew and volunteers regularly patronise local eateries, cafes, and convenience stores, bringing supplies back to the ship and contributing to small business income. Doulos Hope director Nidhin Sebastian said the response from the public has been overwhelming, with nearly 25,000 visitors recorded since the ship's arrival in Labuan. 'It has been a joy to welcome so many aboard…we are grateful for the warmth and hospitality shown by the people of Labuan,' he said. The ship will remain docked in Labuan until July 28, continuing its mission to bring knowledge, help, and hope through books and intercultural engagement.

The Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia Chapter Chairman, Dr Thourn Sinan, said destruction of the ancient temples would be a significant loss, not just to the Cambodian people, but to the world. bootstrap slideshow 'This is bigger than the borders. It's about human dignity and world heritage. Temples like Preah Vihear, Ta Moan, and Ta Krabey have stood for centuries. If they are destroyed, it is not just Cambodia's loss - it is the world's loss. The Preah Vihear temple is located in Preah Vihear province, while Ta Maon Temple and Ta Kra Bei Temple are located in Odor Meanchey province. Although tensions were sporadic in the past, on Thursday, the dispute turned ugly with heightened military engagement between the two nations at the borders.
