NEW DELHI: The wife of a police constable in Uttar Pradesh died by suicide after posting a video on Instagram in which she accused her in-laws of harassment, police said on Sunday. According to PTI, Saumya Kashyap, married to constable Anurag Singh who is posted with Eagle Mobile at Bakshi Ka Talab police station, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her home. Her death came to light after authorities were alerted to the social media post. In the video, Saumya alleged that her in-laws were pressuring her husband to remarry and that her brother-in-law had threatened to kill her. Police have informed Saumya's family, who are travelling from Mainpuri to Lucknow. A case will be registered upon receiving their complaint, officials said. An investigation is underway.

Ahmedabad: A 38-year-old woman who works as a senior data analyst with a top IT company filed a detailed domestic violence complaint at Maninagar police station. She accused her husband, also an IT professional, of physical and mental cruelty, including forcing her to continue a pregnancy, refusing physical intimacy for nearly two years and having an extramarital affair. Initially settled in Bengaluru, she said her husband began harassing her over dowry and pressured her to quit her job. When she resumed work later, he allegedly started taunting and abusing her. She alleged that in 2016, she was pressured into pregnancy and left her job. In 2017, after giving birth to their son, she briefly returned to Bengaluru. Over the next few years, she claimed, the emotional abuse continued. According to her, her husband stopped having physical relations since 2023 and would offer excuses. Suspicious, she checked his phone and allegedly found private photos of another woman. When confronted, he reportedly became violent. The situation worsened in April 2025 when she found her husband viewing photos of another woman on his phone. When she tried to take the phone, he allegedly slapped her. Days later, he reportedly left home and sent her a message in May saying he vacated their Bengaluru home and would send divorce papers. She also alleged that unknown persons sent her threat messages on Instagram and WhatsApp, warning her to leave him. Concerned for her and her son's safety, she returned to Ahmedabad. She further alleged that her husband took away jewellery from their house and threatened to take custody of their son. Maninagar police registered an FIR of domestic violence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and began an inquiry.
