Alanis Morissette Marks A Career First As Several Albums Debut

Alanis Morissette returns to U.K. downloads chart with Jagged Little Pill and The Collection, which ... More earn the singer her first career wins on that tally. Alanis Morissette enjoyed a hugely successful run on the charts in the 1990s and early 2000s — the kind that few artists have matched. The Canadian singer-songwriter brought many of her most familiar tracks together for her 2005 greatest hits compilation The Collection, a project largely composed of songs from her breakout album Jagged Little Pill.
This week turns out to be massive for Morissette, as both of those projects are not only present once again on several highly competitive rankings in the United Kingdom – they both manage to debut on at least one tally apiece.
Jagged Little Pill Returns on Multiple U.K. Charts
Jagged Little Pill is the stronger performer between the two titles, as it appears on six different U.K.-based album rankings. In some cases, the project returns to the lists, such as on the Official Vinyl Albums chart and the Official Albums ranking, as it reenters at Nos. 15 and 39, respectively.
The full-length surges to No. 1 on the Official Album Downloads chart this frame. As it surges, the title becomes Morissette's first leader there. At the same time, the project rockets more than 60 spaces to No. 10 on the Official Albums Sales roster. Both of those numbers mark new peak positions for the decades-old bestseller.
Jagged Little Pill Debuts
Even after so many years and millions upon millions of sales, Jagged Little Pill still manages to debut on one tally across the pond. The Grammy winner starts the project at No. 100 on the Official Albums Streaming chart, where she's scored just two wins during her career – and both are new.
The Collection Debuts on Several Lists
While The Collection appears on half as many rankings as Jagged Little Pill, it debuts on twice as many. The compilation opens at No. 28 on the Official Album Downloads chart and kicks off its time on the Official Albums Streaming tally at No. 71.
At the same time, the compilation finds its way back to the primary ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.K., where it currently sits at No. 78. Despite being released two decades ago, The Collection has only spent five weeks on the Official Albums chart, and it previously peaked at No. 44.
A Streaming Milestone for Alanis Morissette
As both Jagged Little Pill and The Collection debut on the Official Albums Streaming chart, Morissette scores her first two appearances on the tally. While she has previously landed on a number of sales-focused lists and the all-encompassing consumption roster, this week marks the first time she's placed on the streaming-only ranking.

Julia Garner addresses fan backlash to ‘gender-swapped' Fantastic Four casting

Julia Garner has responded to the initial backlash she faced for her casting in The Fantastic Four reboot. Last April, the 31-year-old Emmy-winning Ozark star joined the cast of Marvel Studios' new film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. At first, it was believed that she would be taking on the role of a female version of the iconic Silver Surfer character who appeared in earlier comics. However, it was later confirmed that Garner will, in fact, be starring as Shalla-Bal, the immortal Empress of Zenn-La and lover of the Silver Surfer/Norrin Radd. Speaking to the BBC on Friday at the UK launch of the reboot, the Inventing Anna actor was asked about her reaction to the criticism she first received when it was assumed she was taking on a 'gender-swapped' Silver Surfer. 'I'm just going to still do my job,' she remembered thinking, 'and also it's Shalla-Bal so it's different.' Fan negativity didn't last long, however, as the first trailer, released in February, was widely well-received. 'I was just happy that people are resonating with it and just like any other project,' Garner added of the secondary praise. 'So I'm grateful to be at this dance, to be completely honest with you.' Garner previously spoke about her confusion when she was first approached for the role. 'I was confused because I was like, 'Wait, isn't the Silver Surfer a man?' I was just like, 'Okay, well, I'll play anything,'' she told Entertainment Weekly in April. 'Then [director Matt Shakman] was explaining to me that it's actually Shalla-Bal and that whole thing.' Shalla-Bal was originally introduced in Marvel Comics' The Silver Surfer #1 in August 1968. She has never appeared in a live-action movie until now. 'I knew who the Silver Surfer was, and I got to know the Silver Surfer more when I signed on to the project. I really dived in,' she added. 'I read a lot of the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer comics before starting the project, and I knew that this Fantastic Four was going to be told in a very different way than even the other movies.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, The Bear's Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch. Out in theaters July 25, the movie arrives 20 years after the 2005 adaptation, which featured Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, Jessica Alba, and Chris Evans as the leading quartet. It will represent the first time all four characters will join the interlinking Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Disney's Marvel Studios acquired the rights to The Fantastic Four back in 2019 when the company merged with Fox. The original Fantastic Four comic books follow a group of scientists who develop superhero qualities after they are exposed to a mysterious cosmic storm.

Prince Harry and King Charles' top aides secretly meet in bid to mend royal rift: report

As the rift between Prince Harry and King Charles lll continues to seemingly intensify, senior aides from both sides reportedly met in an effort to begin restoring the broken relationship. According to The Mail on Sunday, Meredith Maines — the Duke of Sussex's chief of staff and communications director — flew from Montecito, Calif. to London to meet with King Charles' communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae, on Wednesday. Liam Maguire, who oversees U.K. press for Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, was also present. "There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years," a source told The Mail. "There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about." The informal meeting was reportedly held at the Royal Over-Seas League, a private members' club. The source said the meeting was only the "first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction." "Everyone just wants to move on and move forward now. It was finally the right time for the two sides to talk," the source added. Fox News Digital has learned that Maines was in London to meet with the UK-based communications team, media, stakeholders and senior figures connected to the Duke's patronages. The visit was entirely routine and part of ongoing planning and engagement. Representatives for Buckingham Palace and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. The peace summit comes weeks after Harry told the BBC that he'd "love reconciliation" with his family. "There's no point in continuing to fight anymore," he said. The rift between Prince Harry and King Charles ignited after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal exit as senior members in 2020. After their move to California, the couple began to air their grievances in interviews and documentaries. Harry's 2023 memoir, which detailed embarrassing revelations about the House of Windsor, only worsened tensions with his family. In televised interviews to promote the book, Harry accused his stepmother, Queen Camilla, of leaking private conversations to the media to burnish her own reputation. He accused members of the royal family of getting "into bed with the devil" to gain favorable tabloid coverage, singling out Camilla's efforts to rehabilitate her image with the public after her longtime affair with his father. "That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press," Harry told CBS. "There was open willingness on both sides to trade information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being queen consort, there was going to be people or bodies left in the street." Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner recently told Fox News Digital that Harry's comments about Camilla were a major blow to the king and likely one of the reasons why he iced his son out. "It is well known that King Charles can become very upset and hot under the collar," said Pelham Turner. "Certainly, Charles is upset about remarks made … about Camilla. She has used the code of silence on the subject, similar to her own experiences while there were three in the marriage, as stated by Princess Diana." Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told recently People magazine that there has been a desire to reconnect on Charles's side, but "the underlying issue is trust." "The king and Prince William don't trust Harry and Meghan with any kind of confidential conversation," she said. Insiders told the outlet that William, in particular, "has shown no interest in extending an olive branch." Fox News Digital's Stephanie Nolasco and Ashley Papa contributed to this post.
