Footy legend Joel Clinton reveals coach's violent dressing room act that made one of the NRL's toughest stars so angry he almost 'ripped his head off'
Clinton, who played 241 matches for Penrith, opened up about his final season with the Panthers in 2007 under coach Elliott while appearing on the Andy Raymond Unfiltered podcast.
'I remember he kicked a garbage bin across the room after one game,' Clinton recalled.
'We were up at halftime by 18 points or something like that, and we lost that game.
'Matty Elliott was a pretty aggressive coach and he kicked the garbage bin across the room and it ended up hitting big Franky Pritchard straight in the head.
'I remember Franky Pritchard looked over and he wanted to absolutely rip his head off - and Tony Puletua had to grab him and stop him and say "No mate, sit down".
'Lucky Big T was in the room that day because Franky Pritchard has got a bit of a background and he would have done some damage.'
Later in the episode, Clinton took aim at former Broncos coach Ivan Henjak for 'f**king him around' during his spell with the club.
Clinton was recruited by Wayne Bennett in 2008, but the supercoach moved to the Dragons the following year.
'That next year I really knuckled down,' Clinton said.
'My stats were great, I was one of Brisbane's best forwards, but Ivan Henjak didn't see eye to eye with me.'
'He upset quite a few boys there, I had another year on my contract, but I asked for a release.
'[Ex-Panthers coach] Johnny Lang had called me up and asked me to come to Souths for three years on a good deal, good coin, and I knew my time was up with Ivan.
'I asked for three releases, and he said "no, we're keeping you".'
Clinton believed that he'd have to see out his entire contract in Brisbane - but then got a shock call from his manager during Mad Monday celebrations.
'It came to the end of 2009, and I got a phone call from my manager, I'd been on the p**s for 24 hours straight, and he said "yeah, they don't want you next year",' Clinton said.
'By then all the salary cap was gone, there was no money left at Souths, there was a little at Wests, but to get the money I was after at 28, I had to go to the UK, purely because of [Ivan Henjak].
'If he could have f***ed me around any more he would have, I tried three times to get out of that contract, and he wouldn't release me.
'You're at that time of your life where you want to get every cent you can out of the game, and that was the reason I ended up in the UK.
'It was upsetting - and I still hold a bit of a grudge about it to this day.

The Wallaroos are taking on the Black Ferns in windy Wellington, with the aim of causing an upset and taking their first ever win against their neighbours across the ditch. It's a huge ask – the teams last met in Newcastle in May as part of the Pacific Four series, where the Ferns claimed a 38-12 win. The Wallaroos have been an improved side in recent times, pulling off a 27-19 win over the USA during that same series, and with the addition of sevens star Charlotte Caslick into the mix this year, they have shown plenty of spark. However the Black Ferns are an incredibly formidable team, not least because they feature Portia Woodman-Wickliffe – New Zealand's leading women's fifteen-a-side try scorer of all time. With a World Cup on the horizon, this is important preparation for both teams, and though the Black Ferns are heavily favoured, the Wallaroos will be throwing everything at this match to try to pull off an unlikely win. Kick off is at 4:30pm local time (2:30pm AEST), so let's get into it!

Former NRL star Cooper Johns mocks Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes for his highbrow alcohol preference - 'laughed in his face'
Cooper Johns and Jahrome Hughes were once teammates at the Melbourne Storm - but that didn't stop the KIIS FM radio identity from mocking the decorated halfback for his highbrow alcohol choice. Speaking on the Johns Family podcast this week, Cooper set the scene from a recent night out in Townsville in far north Queensland. 'The Storm boys headed to (notorious local pub) the Mad Cow after beating the Cowboys,' Johns said. 'Everyone was having a good time, ordering drinks. '(At the moment) Jahrome has a bet going with (teammate) Cameron Munster on who can't drink the longest, I think there is a grand ($1000) on the line. 'There is an exception, Hughesy can have a bottle of red (when on a night out) on occasion. 'He calls himself Red Wine Rome, Jahrome is convinced he plays well if he has a little bit of red wine (in the lead-up and after NRL games.) 'Anyway, we were at the Mad Cow, and Jahrome goes up to the bar and asks the lady: 'what bottles of red do you have? 'She looked at him and said: 'this is the Mad don't have red. 'Then she laughed in his then so did all his teammates.' Johns - who was in Townsville visiting other footy players as well as the Storm squad - added that a red-faced Hughes was 'filthy', and then didn't touch a drop of alcohol for the rest of the night. Meanwhile, Hughes will be a key figure on Saturday afternoon when Newcastle host Melbourne at McDonald Jones Stadium. The Storm will be without Cameron Munster - who attended his dad's funeral this week - while fellow Queensland Origin hero Harry Grant is likely to be rested. NSW Blues prop Stefano Utoikamanu will back up for Craig Bellamy's team.

The conundrum at the heart of Tottenham's £55m Mohammed Kudus swoop - and why Thomas Frank has not been deterred, writes MATT BARLOW
The last time Mohammed Kudus was seen at Tottenham he was disappearing down the tunnel in disgrace after a red card leading to a five-match ban and a stern ticking off from his boss. It had been an eventful derby game for Kudus. He opened with terrific zeal, causing problems for Pedro Porro and firing West Ham ahead before Spurs replied with four goals inside half an hour and he lost his head.
