Scottie Scheffler kills Rory McIlroy battle cry stone dead as world's best brutally underlines his brilliance
Supporters in Portrush turned the dial up to 11 to back McIlroy for his final round but the brilliance of the World No.1 soon told as he raced out to a three under start as he closes in on his fourth major.
McIlroy received a rock star ovation on the first tee in scenes akin to the reception players receive when starring in A-list team events such as the Ryder Cup. And the cries from the crowd continued onto the course but they had little effect on Scheffler who marched to the beat of his own tune.

BBC's Jonathan Bradley is walking the course and he revealed the crowd's final forlorn attempt to put Scheffler off didn't work. He said: Not to say it was a Ryder Cup atmosphere earlier but there were certainly a good number of "let's go Rory" shouts as Scottie Scheffler walked up the fairways.
"Those have died off as that gap on the leaderboard grows between the world number one and the world number two."

Lioness Lucy Bronze just revealed the huge health secret she kept throughout the whole tournament
Fresh off the back of yet another Euros win, the England women's team are riding high – including defender Lucy Bronze, who revealed that she was keeping a huge health secret throughout the entire gripping tournament. Bronze, 33, played in all six of England's matches in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 competition, and revealed in a post-match interview that she was powering through a significant injury: "I actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia, but no-one knew," she explained. The tibia – also known as the shin bone – is the bone which runs from your knee joint to your ankle joint, and is vital for stability and weight-bearing. The idea of playing while having a fractured one sounds, quite frankly, hellish. When commenting on whether or not it would impact her celebrations, Bronze said, "It's very painful. I am going to party, I am going to enjoy it and that's it." During the tense final against Spain, the player could be seen limping on the pitch too and finished her appearance after an impressive 105 minutes, with a bandaged leg. This, she also detailed, was down to injuring her other leg too. "I just hurt my knee today on the other leg," Bronze shared. "That is why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game because I have been in a lot of pain. "But if that's what it takes to play for England, that's what I'll do – they know that. We inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end, in the end." Commenting on how she is mentally strong in the face of injuries, Sarina Wiegman, England's manager, said Bronze has a "crazy mentality". "She had some issues with her tibia so of course we tried to manage that," she told press. "When you play 120 minutes you're not managing it are you? The whole team has a great mentality but she has a crazy mentality, it's unbelievable." Ouch – and kudos! Naomi Osaka makes career announcement involving Patrick Mouratoglou
Naomi Osaka has a new opening at coach. The former World No. 1 announced Sunday on social media that she and coach Patrick Mouratoglou are parting ways. 'Merci Patrick. It was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best," Osaka wrote. "You are one of the coolest people I've ever met and I'm sure I'll see you around.' Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, has been in a career rut for years. Mouratoglou joined her staff in September of 2024 and there hasn't been much improvement. Osaka has not made it past the third round of a Grand Slam tournament since 2021 when she won the Australian Open. Now she will look for a new coach to help bring her back to form. Mouratoglou has coached a variety of talented players, most notably Serena Williams, but he has not had much success as of late. He recently split twice with ATP player Holger Rune and now with Osaka. His opportunities could be dwindling. Osaka will now prepare for the hard court season with the U.S. Open beginning August 24th. She lost her second match at the D.C. Open recently and will look to improve before heading to New York. It's a tough split but if it results in improvement for Osaka nobody will blame her. MORE: Serena Williams' former coach questions Novak Djokovic's mentality in Grand Slam pursuit
