Rubio, Dar discuss bilateral, regional matters
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and exchanged views on current regional and international issues, The Foreign Office said in statement on Monday.
The Foreign Office said that during the telephonic conversation, the two leaders discussed a range of bilateral matters and exchanged views on current regional and international issues. Both sides also agreed to remain in contact and continue cooperation in areas of mutual interest, it added.
The phone call comes amid a series of high-level engagements between the two countries.
In June, US President Donald Trump hosted Pakistan's army chief for an unprecedented lunch at the White House, where the two sides discussed the Iran-Israel conflict and other strategic issues. Trump thanked him for helping to avert a war with India.
The meeting followed a Trump-brokered ceasefire in May between Pakistan and India after a four-day military clash.
The heaviest fighting in decades between India and Pakistan was sparked by an April 22 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that killed 26 people, most of them tourists.
New Delhi blamed the incident on "terrorists" backed by Pakistan, a charge denied by Islamabad.
Pakistan conducted Operation Bunyanum Marsoos in response to the Indian military's dastardly attacks that began on the night of May 6 and 7, resulting in the loss of innocent civilian lives, including women, children, and the elderly.

Speaking at the seminar, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed accused India of "Hindutva fascism" and compared its policies to "Israeli apartheid" in Palestine. "India's actions in Kashmir mirror the worst forms of colonial oppression. The world must act before it's too late," he warned. Former AJK President Sardar Masood Khan dismissed India's claims of development in Kashmir, stating: "If Kashmir is truly prospering under India, why are Kashmiris still barred from visiting martyrs' graves? The truth is, India fears the Kashmiri people's unbreakable spirit." Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader Altaf Hussain Wani, in an emotional interview with state broadcaster, described August 5 as a day of betrayal. "India thought it could erase Kashmir's identity, but the resistance grows stronger. Pakistan's support gives us hope that justice will prevail," he said. From the mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan to the bustling streets of Karachi, Pakistanis from all walks of life participated in rallies, seminars, and marches to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren. In Gilgit, a major rally was held at Sir Syed Boys High School, where Governor Syed Mehdi Shah addressed a large crowd. He said that August 5 is a black day in history when India violated international law and UN resolutions. "The people of Gilgit-Baltistan stand firmly with our Kashmiri brethren, and we will continue our struggle until Kashmir is free," Shah stated. In Quetta, Mastung, and other districts, protests were led by government officials, including Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar. Speakers condemned India's "state terrorism" and called on the UN to intervene. In Peshawar, a massive rally was led by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who warned that Pakistan is prepared to take decisive action. "We have already shown India our strength in the May conflict. In the rallies and seminars and other events, the speakers urged the international intervention community to help prevent India's reign of terror in IIOJK, where enforced disappearances, pellet gun injuries, and media blackouts persisted. Govt clears Quetta flights for Shia pilgrims
The federal government has authorised direct flights from Quetta to facilitate pilgrims travelling to Iran and Iraq for Arbaeen, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif announced in the National Assembly on Tuesday. During the session — chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq — the house unanimously passed two resolutions marking Youm-e-Istehsal, condemning atrocities in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, opposition members continued their protest over the conviction of senior party leaders in May 9 cases. Some federal ministers responded by mocking the PTI-led protest movement, while the law minister reiterated the government's offer for dialogue. In a policy statement, Defence Minister Asif highlighted the security threats faced by pilgrims along the 800-kilometre overland route from Quettaparticularly the risk of terrorist attacks in Balochistan. "To mitigate these risks, the federal government has authorised direct flights from Quetta for Arbaeen pilgrims," he said, adding that one flight had already commenced, with additional daily services planned to meet demand. Asif said all licensed private airlines had been invited to operate on the route, and permission was also granted for chartered flights to maximise capacity. He noted that Iran had approved an additional flight for Pakistani pilgrims following discussions during the Iranian president's recent visit. "The government is committed to ensuring safe, comfortable, and timely transportation for all Arbaeen pilgrims," the minister added. Resolution on Kashmir The house unanimously adopted two resolutions, condemning India's actions in IIOJK on Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir, marking the sixth anniversary of India's revocation of Articles 370 and 35A. The resolutions were moved by Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Shazia Marri and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's Amir Muqam. However, the proceedings were marred by opposition protests, which accused the government of stifling dissent. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry criticised the PTI's protest, stating, "Today is for Kashmir, but you are observing Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Imran." He accused PTI of exploiting the session for political gains, prompting opposition uproar. PTI protest PTI's Aamir Dogar accused the government of "political victimisation," claiming that 10 National Assembly members were "picked up" but the speaker did not take any action. Demanding justice, he said that the PTI founder was in jail for refusing to budge. Speaker Sadiq countered, saying that he had issued the production orders. The speaker also apprised the house of PTI MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram's unexplained absence for 40 days, saying that under Article 64 his seat could be declared vacant. PML-N's Nosheen Iftikhar moved a motion to declare Akram's seat vacant, however, Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah stressed the need for seeing whether the motion followed the rules.

CM hails Kashmiris' unwavering courage
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has paid rich tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people on Youm-e-Ihtehsal Kashmir, expressing unwavering solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their just struggle for the right to self-determination. In her message on Kashmir Exploitation Day, the CM said, "I salute the brave brothers and sisters of occupied Jammu and Kashmir who have written a history of resistance with their blood. Freedom of Kashmir is not just a dream, it is inscribed in destiny." Referring to the illegal and unilateral actions taken by India on August 5, 2019, she said that despite significant escalation in atrocities over the past six years, the courage of Kashmiris remains unwavering and truly commendable. She reiterated, "Kashmir will decide its own fate. We stand united with our Kashmiri brethren and will continue to do so." The CM condemned the silence of the international community, terming it a "dark chapter in human history" and a "charge sheet against global conscience". ' CM Maryam Nawaz expressed confidence that the day is not far when the sun of freedom will rise over Kashmir. "The sacrifices of thousands of Kashmiri martyrs will not go in vain. Resolving the Kashmir issue is essential for lasting peace and stability in the subcontinent," she added.
