Vidya Balan Recalls Akshaye Khanna's Reaction After She Rejected Film With Him: ‘Fired Me…'
Vidya Balan opened up on turning down a film opposite Akshaye Khanna, and what happened after she faced him later while shooting for Salaam-E-Ishq.
Bollywood actress Vidya Balan recently shared an anecdote from her early acting days, and recalled rejecting a film opposite Akshaye Khanna. She said that she did not connect with the script, and asked her manager to convey the message instead of informing Akshaye directly. Later, Vidya met Akshaye on the sets of the 2007 film 'Salaam-e-Ishq', and revealed his reaction to her rejecting the film opposite him. She jokingly added that she asked her Salaam-e-Ishq co-star John Abraham to 'save' her, and later realized that Akshay was only pulling her leg.
At Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit, Vidya Balan said, 'There was a film offered to me opposite Akshaye Khanna, and for some reason, I didn't connect with the script. But I didn't pick up the phone and tell him that. I asked my manager to convey it to the director." She further added, 'And then I met Akshaye on the sets of Salaam-E-Ishq. And he fired me. He was like 'why didn't you tell me you didn't want to do the film?' I went up to John and said, 'Can you please save me?' (laughs). Because I was so new, I didn't want any confrontation. I didn't want to hurt anyone or make anyone feel bad, or just feel like I was refusing a film with them. But of course, he was only pulling my leg. I later realized."
The actress acknowledged that nobody likes to hear 'no,' especially considering the significant time and effort put into creating a script. In a sincere admission, Balan mentioned that being married to a producer has deepened her understanding of this even more. Speaking about the same, Vidya expressed, 'I'm not a rude person. I say it as it is, but I am aware of how much efforts go into developing a script and I value it."
On the work front, Vidya Balan was last seen in Anees Bazmee's horror-comedy film 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3' alongside Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri. The film was was theatrically released on 1 November 2024.

This man used to sell sweets at shop, was given a big break by Madhubala, became Bollywood's famous...., he was...
Born on September 6, 1929, in pre-partition Lahore, Yash Johar grew up managing the family sweet shop post-Partition in Delhi. 'You just wanted your stomachs to be full,' he recalled of his modest upbringing. With nine siblings depending on whoever mattered most, his mother recognised his restlessness and supported his move to Mumbai to pursue his passion. Snapping a star into stardom In 1950, young Yash began working as a photographer for a news agency. His moment came on the set of Mughal-e-Azam, when Madhubala, charmed by his fluent English and confidence, permitted him to photograph her—and even gave him a personal tour of the set. This encounter opened the doors to the filmmaking world. Rising through the studio ranks Yash honed his craft at Sunil Dutt's Ajanta Arts in the early 1950s, assisting on films like Mujhe Jeene Do and Yeh Raste Hain Pyaar Ke. He then moved to Navketan Films, producing classics like Guide (1965), Jewel Thief, Prem Pujari, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna. His success with Guide cemented his place in the industry. Dharma is born In 1976, Johar fulfilled his largest cinematic ambition: founding Dharma Productions. Named to reflect his spiritual grounding, Dharma released its first hit, Dostana (1980), starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, and Zeenat Aman. Although subsequent releases like Duniya, Agnipath, and Gumrah were moderate performers, Johar's lavish sets and emotive storytelling carved a unique niche. Legacy forged with his son Yash's true masterpiece was the dynasty he built with his son, Karan Johar. Together, they crafted blockbusters—Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). The latter, Yash's final film, remains a cultural touchstone celebrated for its depth, values, and emotional resonance. A personal life as dramatic as his films In 1971, Yash married Heera Johar, sister of BR and Yash Chopra, legendary filmmakers. A story often told is how he proposed to her in front of icons like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, and Raj Kapoor. Yash passed away on June 26, 2004, at 74, after battling cancer and a chest infection. Under Karan's leadership, Dharma Productions ascended to its place as one of Bollywood's major powerhouses.

During an interview with News18 Showsha, Kajol looked back at the time when she was pregnant, adding that she and Ajay are happy not to be changing their children Nysa and Yug's nappies. Kajol said, 'I don't think we ever functioned that way. We share responsibilities. If I'm there, I do things. If he's there, he does it. It's as simple as that. The best thing is that our children don't need to get their nappies changed anymore... When Nysa and Yug were babies, Ajay did change their nappies once or twice. He may tell you that he did it more than two times but I would've to disagree on that point." She added, 'We've passed that stage and nobody needs to take that responsibility anymore. We're good. Today, it's more about supervision and talking to our children about their issues. It's much easier to swap those roles around'. Kajol admitted that she was 'pretty much chill' when she was pregnant with Yug, who she gave birth to in September 2010. She said that she worked out a lot throughout both her pregnancies and that gave her a huge boost. About Kajol and Ajay's relationship Kajol has been married to Ajay for over two decades. The duo had met for the first time on the sets of their film, Hulchul, in 1995. They dated for almost 4 years and tied the knot in 1999.
