However, no suicide note was recovered from the room.
The deceased, Nikesh Kumar Rohidas, was a resident of Semariya village of Janjgir–Champa district of Chhattisgarh.
Additional DCP (city) Abhijeet Kumar said: "The deceased was pursuing his BTech first year in computer science and an inmate of room no. 101 of Vivekanand Boys Hostel. The police have seized his mobile phone and laptop for further investigations.
The motive behind suicide is not known yet."
Sources said the deceased was to appear in his last exam of the second semester on Thursday. When his friends asked him to come for the exam, he assured them that he would be arriving within five minutes. However, he didn't appear in the exam, and the hostel mates found his room closed from inside upon their return.
Feeling suspicious, they called up hostel and college authorities, who then called up the police.
Police broke the door open to find the victim's body.
His fellow inmates told police that he had even packed his belongings on Wednesday to return to his native place after the exams were over on Thursday.
Police said the body had been sent for postmortem and further probe was on.
Chief warden Prof Naresh Kumar said the parents of the victims have been informed.

Ara: In a bizarre attempt to fund the purchase of a second-hand car, a 23-year-old BTech graduate faked his own kidnapping and sent a video of his supposed torture to his family, only to be arrested days later by Bhojpur police. According to police, Govind, a resident of Sihuli village in Samastipur district, colluded with a friend to stage the fake abduction. In the video he sent to his wife and parents, Govind appeared half-naked, tied to a tree and bearing what looked like injury marks. He claimed that his captors would kill him unless a ransom of Rs 60,000 was paid. The footage, filmed in a forested area near Garhani, was created with the help of his accomplice. "Actually, Govind wanted to buy a second-hand car. To fulfil his dream, he resorted to hatching a conspiracy with one Rajnish Tiwari of Rohtas district for his own fake kidnapping," said SGO of Garhani police station Kamaljeet. "Govind had sent a video of his fake abduction to his wife and parents, demanding a ransom of Rs 60,000. His family even transferred Rs 10,000 to him initially. However, his mobile tower location helped the police in zeroing in on them near Garhani station. Eventually, both were arrested from Piro in Bhojpur and sent to jail on Friday." Police said the so-called abduction had been meticulously planned with Govind playing the role of the victim while Rajnish filmed the staged scene. The investigation, aided by forensic and technical surveillance, unraveled the ruse. Govind's uncle, Anil Kumar, told reporters, "On a previous occasion too, he had demanded and received Rs 50,000 on some pretext or other. Initially, he had been given a big amount of money for starting a business in the village, but the business failed. The sooner he mends his ways, the better it will be for his family."

3 held for assaulting security guard, robbing his bike in south Delhi
Three unemployed college graduates, suspected to be drunk, impersonated police officers, assaulted a security guard, and stole his motorcycle in south Delhi on Thursday, police said. The three were arrested on Saturday, police said on Sunday. Police recovered the victim's Hero Splendor motorcycle which the accused had abandoned on a roadside in Janakpuri, officers said. (Representational image) The accused, identified as Prashant Kumar, 22, a BTech graduate, Garvit Sharma, 25, who has a bachelor's degree in computer applications (BCA), and Aniket Singh, a postgraduate in computer applications (MCA), have no prior criminal record, officers said. 'At 7.27pm on Thursday, the Indira Gandhi International Airport police station received a call from a man who identified himself as Amarpal Singh, 47, a security guard employed at a business centre in Gurugram Aerocity. He said that he was on his way to work when three men on a motorcycle waylaid him near the Mahipalpur underpass,' said additional commissioner of police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani. 'The three claimed to be police officers, accused Singh of rash riding and causing a road accident, and seized his bike's keys. They asked him to accompany them to the police station. When Singh asked to see some identification, the three became angry. One of them slapped him while another got on his bike and fled. The remaining two fled on their motorcycle,' Rangnani added. A police team arrived on the scene, met Singh and later registered a case of cheating by impersonation. Police examined footage from nearly 300 CCTV cameras installed on routes that the accused used during the crime. They identified the motorcycle and its owner, Siddharth (single name) from Shakarpur in east Delhi. Siddharth told police that he had given the bike to his friend, Garvit Sharma, a resident of Palam village, a year ago, said officers. Police showed Siddharth's photograph to Singh, who told them that Siddharth was not one of the three men who had assaulted and robbed him, said officers. 'Sharma was arrested from Palam on Saturday through technical and human intelligence. His interrogation led to the arrest of Aniket Singh and Prashant Kumar. The three revealed that on Thursday, they had consumed liquor in a park in Kishangarh village. After getting drunk, Prashant expressed a desire to do something 'thrilling'. Acting on this impulse, the three conspired to rob a motorcycle by impersonating police officers and executed their plan later that evening,' said Rangnani. Police recovered the victim's Hero Splendor motorcycle which the accused had abandoned on a roadside in Janakpuri, officers said. Police also seized Siddharth's motorcycle from the accused.

Lured by online betting, BTech student stages his own abduction in Cuttack
CUTTACK: In a bid to extract money from his parents to invest in online betting, a 22-year-old BTech student allegedly faked his own abduction and tried to get Rs 50,000 from them. The youth, Shubham Samal, was caught hold by police after a two-day intensive search, on Monday. Police said Samal, a resident of Gadasantri within Banarpal police limits in Angul, is pursuing BTech at Silicon Institute of Technology in Bhubaneswar. The cops had began an investigation from Saturday after receiving a complaint from Shubham's elder sister Rupali. As per Rupali, Shubham had come to her residence at OSAP 6th Battalion campus in OMP Square in Cuttack a few days back. She stated that Shubham had called their father up on June 20 alleging he had been kidnapped by three unknown persons from OMP Square and they were demanding Rs 50,000 for his release. Subsequently, his father had also sent the said amount to Shubham via UPI. In the meantime, police had formed a special team and managed to trace Shubham after a two-day search from Madhupatana near Press Chhak area. During interrogation, Shubham confessed to have scripted his own kidnapping to get some money for investing in an online betting application. 'Shubham had left his sister's place on June 20 and went to Press Chhak from where he called his father up alleging he had been kidnapped. He was involved in online betting and wanted to invest more money in the app. Hence, he faked his own abduction,' said a senior police officer adding, Shubham was eventually handed over to his family after being issued a warning not to indulge in such acts in the future.
