Gagasan Rakyat urged to step up outreach ahead of state polls

Speaking at the launch of the party's 'Gasak 17 This Is the Time' Information Seminar on Friday, Hajiji called for clearer communication on Gagasan Rakyat's mission and the State Government's achievements. The seminar at the Sabah International Convention Centre marked the start of the three-day Gagasan Rakyat Annual Assembly. Hajiji said the party's information chiefs at all levels must now activate their networks to engage the public more effectively. He also highlighted the role of the party's Women, Youth and Beliawanis wings in ensuring messages reach communities across Sabah. Strong grassroots coordination, he said, would help reinforce public confidence in Gagasan Rakyat and the GRS-led government. Nine killed in Iran courthouse attack by Jaish al-Adl group
AT least nine people were killed in an armed attack by the Sunni Jaish al-Adl Baluch group on a courthouse in Iran's restive Sistan-Baluchestan province on Saturday, including three of the assailants, state media reported. Another 22 were injured, according to the report. Jaish al-Adl confirmed the deaths of its three members in the clashes with security forces in Zahedan, the capital of the far southeastern province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. Sistan-Baluchestan is home to Iran's Sunni Muslim Baluch minority, who have long complained of economic marginalisation and political exclusion. He did not identify the sixth dead person. He said the attackers wore explosive vests and carried grenades. It was not clear if they had detonated them. Jaish al-Adl, which claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its Telegram account, said it had killed at least 30 members of the judiciary and security forces. It said it targeted judges and court personnel, whom it accused of issuing death sentences and house demolition orders to Baluch citizens. 'We warn all judges and employees of the judiciary that Baluchestan will no longer be a safe place for them and death will follow them like terrifying shadows until retribution,' the group said in its statement. It blamed security forces for the deaths of civilians, saying they had fired indiscriminately. The Baluch human rights group HAALVSH, quoting eyewitnesses, said several judiciary staff members and security personnel were killed or wounded when the assailants stormed the judges' chambers. Sistan-Baluchestan is frequently hit by clashes between security forces and armed groups, including Sunni militants and separatists who say they are fighting for greater rights and autonomy. Political stability crucial for Sabah to match Sarawak's development
KOTA KINABALU: Political stability and leadership continuity are vital for Sabah to achieve development levels comparable to Sarawak, said Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) deputy president Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. He highlighted that frequent changes in government have complicated efforts to resolve basic issues and sustain development. Since 1963, Sabah has had 16 chief ministers, while Sarawak has had only six premiers and chief ministers. Masidi stressed that Sabah must adopt Sarawak's mindset, where political stability and development efforts are prioritised. 'Compared to Sarawak, Sabah's problem is the frequently changing governments. This itself shows how politically unstable things are,' he told reporters after officiating the 2025 Gagasan Rakyat Women's, Youth and Beliawanis Wings Conferences. A key factor in maintaining stability, according to Masidi, is having a local party fully backed by the people, similar to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). He urged Sabahans to think and decide freely, emphasising that egoistic attitudes in politics remain a major obstacle. 'If we continue to hold on to the attitude of 'I must win, others must lose', the people of Sabah will never be united,' he warned. Masidi cautioned that Sabah's abundant resources would remain underutilised without unity and hard work from leaders and citizens. [UPDATED] Anwar jokes about Pas-led rally, says he was not invited
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave a humorous response to the Pas-led rally held today, saying simply: "I was not invited." He made the remark when asked to comment on the protest when met by reporters after the 2025 Prime Minister's Cup Debate Finals. Police anticipate a turnout of between 10,000 and 15,000 people at today's rally. The rally aims to pressure the government over issues such as the rising cost of living and alleged institutional failures. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail had said that police would facilitate the assembly. Police had also advised the public to plan their journeys in advance and use public transport where possible to avoid congestion in the city centre.
