Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the adoption of zero-tolerance against violation of a code of conduct for ensuring peace during Muharram. Presiding over a meeting, she ordered immediate arrest of anyone found involved in spreading hateful content on social media.
The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to enforce a ban on displaying banners, posters and wall chalking throughout the province. She also ordered immediate arrest of those violating the ban on flying drones during Muharram. She directed the provincial ministers, commissioners, deputy commissioners, RPOs and DPOs to oversee the arrangements for the occasion and contact religious scholars for the purpose.
Chief Minister Maryanm Nawaz directed the Punjab Safe Cities Authority to make functional the out of order surveillance cameras. She also directed the Special Monitoring Unit to monitor and report on hate content. She directed the authorities to launch drills of security arrangements and to install 'sabeels' in a uniform manner for Muharram gatherings for distributing refreshing drinks, lemonade and cold water bottles.
It was agreed during the meeting to install iron railings for security during the processions and gatherings.
The chief minister issued directives to sprinkle water to protect the participants of the gatherings from severe heat and humidity along with other steps to protect them from heatstroke. She ordered the setting up of field hospitals and Clinics on Wheels along the Ashura procession routes along with an effective traffic management plan and advisories. She also called for arrangements to ensure timely drainage of water in case of rainfall.
The chief minister also ordered activation of the hotel and travel surveillance web applications, continuation of combing operations and the acquisition of an anti-drone system.
She said the SOPs for the occasion should be implemented in letter and spirit.
She said hanging electric wires posed a big risk and they should be urgently removed. There should be no power outage at during the gatherings street lights should not be turned off, she added.
"It is our foremost responsibility to safeguard the country and the nation from hatred, prejudice and disunity. Division and hatred are poisonous for the new generation and we want to eliminate the at all cost. There is a dire need to take effective and sustainable measures to eradicate hatred and prejudice," she said.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the provision of more electric buses to the districts in South Punjab and further directed that remote areas should be given priority in the provision of electric buses. The Chief Minister chaired a special meeting during which the Transport Department briefed on its projects and the progress being made on the electric bus project. The CM emphasised, 'The culture of always giving every new facility to big cities must be changed. We will bring rural areas at par with the major urban cities.' She directed that 240 electric buses should be given on a priority basis to 24 districts. In the first phase, 240 e-buses will be provided to relatively underdeveloped districts. Between August and October, 500 e-buses will be provided for Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Rawalpindi. From November to December, 600 additional electric buses will arrive in Punjab. The CM highlighted, 'Under the Punjab Clean Air Program, 400 electric buses will be provided to Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Lahore. A detailed review was conducted of the Gujranwala BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) project. In order to connect the entire city and suburban areas, 80 feeder buses will be launched. On the 22-kilometer-long BRT system from Rahwali to Eminabad, 28 stations will be established. The proposal to extend the Gujranwala BRT route was also reviewed. The Gujranwala BRT system will provide two-way transportation after every 8 minutes. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed that traffic along the Gujranwala BRT route should be managed through a smart traffic control solution. For this project, 4 electric bus depots will be established in Gujranwala. In the meeting, progress was also reviewed on Orange Line and Red Line transport systems in Faisalabad. The Red Line will be 23.4 kilometres long, with 24 stations, and is expected to transport more than 185,000 passengers. The Orange Line will be 29 kilometres long, with 21 stations, and is expected to transport over 111,000 passengers. On the Chief Minister's direction, the route from FIEDMC to Salami Chowk has also been included in the project. The Chief Minister directed the Transport Department to immediately start all public welfare projects, and further directed that e-bus routes should be determined based on public commuting needs. She outlined,' We want to provide buses based on actual public needs. Our thinking should be focused solely for the welfare of people. All districts are equal to me. KARACHI: A 24-hour active 'Muharram Monitoring Cell' has been established in the Sindh Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Saturday. The Cell has been set up on the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Sindh. It will work under the supervision of Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi under the Public Complaint Cell (919). Office number 021-99204147 and mobile number 0300-0276555 will be available for public contact. Muharram Monitoring Cell will work in two shifts across the province and will monitor all issues related to Muharram Ul Harram. The chief minister has said that no negligence would be tolerated in Muharram arrangements.

In her message on the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram and the Islamic year, the CM said, 'I pray that may the new Hijri year brings peace, tranquility, prosperity and happiness across the globe. May the new Hijri year becomes a source of blessing for Pakistan, the Pakistani nation and the entire Islamic world.' She highlighted, 'Muharram-ul-Haram also reminds us of the great martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The message of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) encourages the oppressed of every era and challenges the oppressor.' She urged, 'There should be no differences and divisions in Muharram-ul-Haram and we should adopt tolerance. The Punjab government has made extraordinary arrangements to ensure an atmosphere of peace and security in Muharram-ul-Haram.' She outlined, 'Those who spread hatred and sectarianism on social media will be dealt with an iron hand. The Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on drone coverage in gatherings and processions during Muharram-ul-Haram, stern action will be taken against any violation.
