Nasreddine Nabi reveals the team's captain for the next season.
Nasreddine Nabi has ushered in a fresh chapter for Kaizer Chiefs, appointing Angolan defender Inácio Miguel as the club's new permanent captain following Yusuf Maart's departure.
Maart, who spent three seasons with Amakhosi after joining from Sekhukhune United in 2022, sealed his legacy by scoring the winning goal in last season's Nedbank Cup final—ending Chiefs' decade-long trophy drought. The 30-year-old midfielder has since moved to Austrian side SV Ried, leaving the armband vacant.
Miguel, who led the team during their pre-season tour in the Netherlands, was again entrusted with the captaincy in Saturday's Toyota Cup clash against Asante Kotoko. Despite a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Nabi confirmed the defender will retain the role for the upcoming campaign.
'Today, Miguel was our captain—and he will continue as captain for the season,' the Chiefs coach stated.
Reflecting on the match, Nabi expressed optimism despite the loss, acknowledging missed opportunities while praising his squad's effort.
'Overall, I'm pleased with the performance—it showed us where we stand,' he said. 'We had chances to win, especially in the final ten minutes, but it wasn't to be. Still, the players gave everything. With two weeks before our league opener, we'll work on refining both our strengths and weaknesses.'
Chiefs begin their 2025/26 Premiership campaign with an away fixture against Stellenbosch FC.

Nantes in talks to sign Sturm Graz striker Amady Camara

Nantes have submitted Sturm Graz an offer to sign centre-forward Amady Camara (20) on loan with an option to buy, according to Ouest-France. The Ligue 1 side is reportedly confident that a deal could be struck swiftly with the Austrian outfit. The 20-year-old Malian international striker joined Sturm Graz two years ago. Camara can also play on the right wing. Camara would bring competition to Youssef El-Arabi, Mostafa Mohamed and Matthis Abline. Although it must be stressed that the Egyptian centre-forward and the France U21 international could still leave Luis Castro's Canaris before the end of the summer transfer window. Mohamed was reportedly of interest to Nice. Nantes are planning a revamp of their attacking options. They are set to sign AZ Alkmaar winger Mayckel Lahdo on loan. GFFN | Bastien Cheval

Official: Real Madrid announce pre-season friendly

La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Friday announced plans for an upcoming pre-season friendly fixture. This comes as Xabi Alonso's troops prepare to ramp up preparations for the new campaign. Real Madrid's stars are of course currently enjoying some well-earned rest, following their efforts at last month's Club World Cup. Los Blancos are due to return to Valdebebas for training next week, with a view to getting their 2025/26 La Liga term up and running on August 20th. Whilst other clubs across Spain and beyond have been busy playing out friendlies, though, as much has to date not been taken into consideration by those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu. This comes with the club required to afford their playing squad sufficient summer holidays. But as alluded to above, on Friday, one upcoming friendly outing has indeed been announced by Real Madrid. As per a statement across the club's website and social media platforms, Alonso's men will face off with Austrian outfit WSG Tirol in Innsbruck on August 12th: Conor Laird – GSFN
