GM survey: Napheesa Collier MVP, Lynx to win title
May 15 - Minnesota forward Napheesa Collier is favored to win MVP honors and lead her Lynx to the WNBA title, according to the results of the league's annual survey of general managers released Thursday.
Collier was runner-up for the award last season, when she earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and made the All-WNBA and All-Defensive first teams while leading the Lynx to a franchise-record 30 wins and a trip to the Finals.
Collier received 67 percent of the votes in the survey, with reigning MVP A'Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces drawing 25 percent and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark third with 8 percent.
The Lynx, who fell to the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA Finals, got 60 percent of the votes to win it all in 2025. New York received 20 percent, followed by Las Vegas and Indiana with 10 percent apiece.
Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve also was voted the best head coach with 83 percent of the GMs' support. The Aces' Becky Hammon received the other 17 percent.
The regular season opens with three games on Friday night, including Collier and the Lynx visiting the Dallas Wings and No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers -- the GMs' pick for Rookie of the Year.
Bueckers, coming off a national championship at UConn, received 73 percent of the votes from GMs. However, when asked which rookie would be the top player in the league in five years, 60 percent selected No. 2 pick Dominique Malonga of the Seattle Storm.
Clark, who energized the league during her Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024, received 50 percent of the votes when GMs were asked which player they would most want to build a team around. Clark also tied the Aces' Chelsea Gray for first place as the best point guard and also finished first as the best shooting guard.
Clark's team made the best overall moves in the offseason, according to the GMs. The Fever received 64 percent of the votes, with Dallas second at 18 percent.

Fan trolls Caitlin Clark with Taylor Swift T-shirt as she sits out second straight WNBA game
A courtside fan has trolled Caitlin Clark with a Taylor Swift T-shirt, standing mere feet from the Indiana Fever star that read, 'Who's Caitlin Clark Anyway? Ew.' The shirt is directly styled after a wardrobe choice made by Swift, who is a friend of Clark's, who wore the garb on stage during a part of her worldwide 'Eras Tour'. The shirt from Swift is meant to poke fun at those who make fun of her in public, with Clark having plenty of those dissenters herself. It is unknown if Clark saw the unidentified fan with the unique shirt, with other women in Clark jersey's standing on either side of the female in the trolling garment. Clark sat out of her second straight game on Friday night with a quad injury, with the Fever picking up a victory over the Dallas Wings anyway. Earlier this season, Clark missed five consecutive games with a quad injury. The point guard's next chance to play will be on Tuesday night in the Commissioner's Cup Final against the Minnesota Lynx. This fan's shirt at the Fever-Wings game 😬 Caitlin Clark (groin) is inactive and will not suit up for the Fever. — Yahoo Sports (@YahooSports) June 27, 2025 Clark also missed Thursday's home game against the Los Angeles Sparks with the same ailment, with Fever fans desperately missing her in a 85-75 defeat to one of the worst teams in the league. No long-term declaration to Clark's health has been made, with a win against the Lynx would hand the Fever their first trophy since winning the WNBA Championship in 2012, making Clark's health for that contest paramount. Before Clark's second multi-game injury absence of the season, her teammates were rallying around her after a few dismal performances. Despite Clark's injury-return game against the New York Liberty on June 14, after missing five games, and the scrappy contest against the Connecticut Sun a few days later, the WNBA phenom's usually sharpshooting touch has been anything but ironclad. Against the Seattle Storm, Clark was 3-for-13 from the field, including an 0-of-6 mark from 3-point range. In the Fever's two previous games before Tuesday night's victory, Clark combined for a 1-of-17 mark from beyond the arc, an unimaginable two-game line by the lofty standards set by the point guard. 'She'll be fine. We're not worried about it,' Fever teammate Lexie Hull said of Clark's form.

Novak Djokovic clamps Carlos Alcaraz for lacking 'respect' as rival calls out rival's Wimbledon 'big lie'
The pair returned to SW19 for media duties before the 2025 edition and couldn't resist some mischief Mischievous Novak Djokovic isn't buying rival Carlos Alcaraz's fawning claims of respect after being mercilessly put to the sword in consecutive Wimbledon Finals. The pair returned to SW19 for media duties before the 2025 edition and the amiable Spaniard was effusive in his praise of the man he has defeated in back-to-back centre court Finals at Wimbledon. And the 22-year-old - already a five-time major winner - reckons the most decorated man of the Open era was also exaggerating his feelings about their recent meetings. Reigning and defending champion Alcaraz said: "He said he was privileged to play this year because of me, because I was defending champion but that was a big lie. "I'm privileged to play with a seven-time champion here, it's crazy what he has done. Not only on grass but it's a privilege.' But Djokovic couldn't resist a chance to lob one back across the court. The 38-year-old teased: I'm looking for a little bit more respect from him. He's talking about respect but the last two years he didn't give me the respect on this court.' Megan Rapinoe wears Pride outfit to watch WNBA game with Sue Bird
Megan Rapinoe was pictured wearing a striking outfit to celebrate Pride Month on Friday night as she watched a WNBA game with partner Sue Bird. The former USWNT star took a seat at courtside to watch her local team - the Seattle Storm - take on the Connecticut Sun. The franchise was celebrating its Pride Night at the game and their mascot, Doppler, was dressed in an extravagant rainbow-colored jacket. As Doppler made his way over to Rapinoe, he appeared to remove the jacket and hand it over to Rapinoe for her to try on. Bird, a four-time WNBA champion and five-time Olympic champion, watched on with delight and snapped plenty of pictures. Later in the game, the couple appeared on the big screen and got a huge ovation from the crowd as the Storm ran out 97-81 winners. Pinoe is ROCKING Doppler's jacket 😍😆 — Seattle Storm (@seattlestorm) June 28, 2025 Earlier this month, Rapinoe opened up on life with her 'super gay' 2019 USA World Cup-winning team as she commemorated Pride Month with Bird. Speaking on her 'A Touch More' podcast, Bird asked Rapinoe how it felt to play soccer during pride month, which prompted her to discuss her World Cup glory from six years ago. 'Our team was super gay in 2019,' Rapinoe said. 'A lot of us were out, a lot of our fans were gay, a lot of the other players were gay. 'First and easiest thing to ensure you have is gay players on our team.' Rapinoe was one of five players who had come out alongside their coach, Jill Ellis, Her recent comments echo what Rapinoe said at the time when the USA went on to win a second straight World Cup title. After USA beat France in the quarterfinals, Rapinoe said: 'Go gays! 'You can't win a championship without gays on your team - it's never been done before, ever. That's science, right there! 'For me, to be gay and fabulous, during Pride month at the World Cup, is nice.' Rapinoe also underlined her outspoken reputation at that tournament as she took shots at president Donald Trump during his first term in office. She said she is 'not going to the f***ing White House' if the US won the tournament due to her disdain for Trump and urged her teammates to consider being associated with him. 'I stand by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House with exception of the expletive,' Rapinoe said during the tournament. 'Considering how much time and effort and pride we take in the platform we have, using it for good and leaving the game in a better place and hopefully the world in a better place, I don't think I would want to go. 'I would encourage my teammates to think hard about lending that platform or having that co-opted by an administration that doesn't feel the same way and doesn't fight for the same things we fight for.' Trump responded by saying on X: 'I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women's Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job! 'We haven't yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. 'Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!'
