SHARES ONE FINAL CUT FROM LIKE PLASTICINE, WITH OFFICIAL VIDEO DIRECTED BY MADELEINE PURDY

NEW PURPLE VINYL COLOURWAY NOW ON-SALE
With just over three weeks to go to the release of her third album Like Plasticine, Australian indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer, Gordi, shares one final taste of the record with the John Congleton co-produced 'Head Rush', and announces a new purple vinyl colourway, available now via her online store.
The single follows her recent back to back appearances on US television. In addition to a performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in June, Gordi recently took time out of her hectic schedule to perform three songs for CBS Mornings, including 'Peripheral Lover' as well as a special version of 'Lunch At Dune' with acclaimed violinist Rob Moose (Taylor Swift, Bon Iver). Earlier in the month, she dropped into KEXP in Seattle for a set live on air, featuring Bon Iver's S. Carey in her band – the KEXP session video will follow shortly after her album release.
Last week Gordi was also announced as a late addition to Hinterland Festival in Iowa, featuring headliners Lana Del Rey and Tyler, The Creator. Currently touring Europe with Foster The People, Gordi will return to the UK and Europe later in the year for the Bryce Dessner curated Sounds From A Safe Harbour Festival and Residency in Cork Ireland, along with Reeperbahn Festival in Germany and a run of headline dates.
Written by Gordi and produced alongside John Congleton, new song 'Head Rush' is fast-paced, intoxicating hit to the senses.
"I was sitting at my friend, Sarah's, Wurlitzer in Los Angeles, playing the same thing over and over again and then Head Rush arrived. It was one of those songs that came in a flurry of words out of my mouth quicker than I could write them down. I was thinking about New York, a place where I've spent a lot of time over the years, where my friend used to live in a rundown place on Division St. Head Rush is about how everything comes to an end eventually. About having to grow up before you're ready. That transition from reckless ecstasy to stability. From chaos to plans.
'I finished this song with John Congleton in LA - we worked at a feverish pace, which was a perfect match for the energy of the song. You've gotta turn the last part up real loud." - Gordi
The song comes with a video from Gordi's long-time collaborator Madeleine Purdy; an abstract visual diary of Gordi's musings on the chaos of New York and the accompanying emotional symbolism. Purdyreflects on the power of simplicity, saying,'With this video I just wanted to make it feel joyful and unceremonious. Casual and off the cuff.'
'Head Rush' lands on the heel of a string of cuts from the album, beginning with 'Lunch At Dune' from Gordi's EP of the same name last year and quickly followed up with 'Alien Cowboy', 'Peripheral Lover', 'Cutting Room Floor', 'PVC Divide' (feat. Anaïs Mitchell) and album opener 'GD (Goddamn)'. Songs from the album have solidified Gordi's global footprint, drawing acclaim from Grammy.com, The Guardian, NPR, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, Dork and more, with radio love from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6, Radio X, and major AAA stations in the US including KEXP, KCRW, and Sirius XM. Not to mention two billboards in Times Square - one for Spotify's GLOW, and another for Amazon Music's PROUD.
Like Plasticine chronicles the last few transformative years of Gordi's life. From coming out and having to adjust the vision of her future, to working as a doctor on the frontline during the pandemic, Gordi explores the beauty, heartbreak and finite nature of human experience across 12 new songs.
Like Plasticine is out August 8 via Mushroom Music.

US regulators greenlight contentious $8 billion Skydance-Paramount merger
US regulators have approved a US$8 billion deal for Skydance to acquire Paramount Global amid tumult in the latter's news and late-night programming on its CBS broadcast network. Clearance of the acquisition comes after Paramount settled US President Donald Trump's lawsuit over election coverage on CBS News' flagship show 60, and a week after CBS cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

White House lashes out at 'South Park' Trump parody
US President Donald Trump Photo: AFP / Andrew Caballero-Reynolds The White House on Thursday (US time) lashed out at the creators of South Park after the bawdy satire skewered Donald Trump in an episode featuring an AI-generated version of the US president crawling naked through a desert. In a no-holds-barred season premiere, the animated Trump character is also seen begging Satan for sex, only to be rebuffed - in part because his penis is too small. The White House was not amused. "This show hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention," spokesperson Taylor Rogers said. "President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country's history - and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump's hot streak." The adult animated series, which frequently touches on hot-button issues in American life, is now in its 27th season and remains one of the world's most valuable TV shows. The season premiere begins with the foul-mouthed Cartman appalled that NPR has been taken off the air by the president, while Randy, a parent, is disturbed by the presence of Jesus in public elementary school. Complaints to the fictional White House receive only a threat from Trump to sue the mountain town of South Park for billions of dollars. Meanwhile, animated Trump is threatening to bomb Canada "like I did Iraq". "I thought you just bombed Iran," the Canadian prime minister replies. "Iran, Iraq, what the hell's the difference?" replies Trump. The episode, which sees the fictional Trump ride rough-shod over many aspects of American life, ends after the town of South Park makes a financial deal with the president that includes an agreement to make public service announcements. The AI generated short that follows, ostensibly one of those announcements, shows an overweight Trump staggering through a desert as a narrator casts him as a latter-day Jesus. The short ends with a naked Trump as the narrator says: "Trump. His penis is teeny-tiny, but his love for us is large." The episode aired days after creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone reportedly penned a US$1.5 billion (NZ2.4b) streaming deal with Paramount that gives the company global rights. The deal comes at a sensitive time for Paramount, which is trying to secure government approval for a multi-billion-dollar merger with entertainment company Skydance. The CBS parent caused a furore this month when it agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit Trump had brought over an interview the storied 60 Minutes current affairs programme aired with Kamala Harris ahead of last November's election. The payment was criticised by Democrats as little more than a bribe to help smooth the merger, with Paramount initially dismissing Trump's lawsuit as meritless. Last week CBS sparked fury after it cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert whose host is a pointed critic of the president. The network insisted it was a financial decision, but opponents have painted the move as the latest example of American institutions bowing to Trump. -AFP

David Letterman had something to say about the Stephen Colbert cancellation
By Lisa Respers France , CNN Jacinda Ardern on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2018. Photo: Supplied Crown David Letterman the king of shade. Letterman posted a video and a quip this week, seemingly in response to news that CBS would be ending "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" in May 2026. Letterman shared a montage of the many times he had roasted his own network over the years, when he was still working for CBS. Colbert succeeded Letterman as host of "The Late Show" in 2014, following Letterman's 22-year run. "You can't spell CBS without BS," the caption on the video reads. The two men have been friends for years and have been guests on each other's shows. While CBS cited financial reasons for the cancellation, there have been questions about the timing of the announcement amid the pending sale of Paramount, the parent company of CBS, which requires approval from federal regulators and Colbert's previous criticism of US president Donald Trump. Fellow comedians have rallied around Colbert since the news. Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, HBO's John Oliver, and NBC's Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon appeared in Colbert's audience on Monday. "Some people see this show going away as a sign of something truly dire," Colbert said Monday night. "While I am a big fan of me, I don't necessarily agree with that statement," he continued. "Because we here at 'The Late Show' never saw our job as changing anything other than how you felt at the end of the day." - CNN
