UAE's Borouge unveils major expansion to boost polyolefin output
The company has awarded two major contracts aimed at boosting the nameplate capacity of its second ethane cracker (EU2) and the fourth and fifth polyethylene units (PE4 and PE5). Linde Engineering has been awarded a contract for Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) services to upgrade Borouge's second ethane unit (EU2) with an additional capacity of 230,000 tonnes per annum (tpa). This strategic project is expected to increase the EU2 cracker's capacity by 15%, delivering significant financial gains upon completion in Q4 2028. Linde Engineering was selected for its expertise in design and execution, as well as its role as the licensor of the existing EU2 cracker. The ethane used as feedstock for the EU2 cracker is supplied by ADNOC Gas and ADNOC Refining, ensuring an integrated and reliable supply chain.
Borouge has launched major expansion projects to boost ethylene and polyethylene production, expected to add $165â€'$200 million in annual EBITDA. Contracts were awarded to Linde and Target Engineering to increase capacity at EU2, PE4, and PE5 units. With Borouge 4 and a proposed global merger, total capacity will exceed 6.6 million tpa by 2028, driving growth and shareholder value.
Borouge has also awarded Target Engineering Construction Company an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the expansion and refurbishment of its PE4 and PE5 production units, following a competitive bidding process. This enhancement will increase their nameplate capacity from 540,000 to 700,000 tpa each. Leveraging Borealis Borstar Polyethylene technology, the project is scheduled to be ready for start-up in Q1 2027.
Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge , said: 'By increasing production at our EU2, PE4 and PE5 units, as well as delivering the Borouge 4 mega project, we are strategically positioned for accelerated growth.
'The expansions of our ethylene and polyethylene capabilities will enable Borouge to meet growing market demands, unlock new revenue streams, and further strengthen our global market position. These projects demonstrate our commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.'
Since 2001, Borouge has increased its annual production capacity tenfold, reaching 5 million tpa and positioning itself among the top five polyolefin producers in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Together with the Borouge 4 mega project, these expansion projects, once fully ramped up, will increase the company's annual total polyolefins production capacity to over 6.6 million tpa by 2028. These projects are driving significant value to the UAE's economy through ADNOC's In-Country Value (ICV) program, supporting economic and industrial growth.
The Company's major shareholders, ADNOC and OMV have proposed the combination of Borouge and Borealis, along with the acquisition of Nova Chemicals, to create Borouge Group International. These transformational deals will create the world's fourth largest polyolefin company, a $60 billion global polyolefins leader with a substantial capacity of 13.6 million metric tonnes across 62 plants spanning North America, Europe and the Middle East – more than doubling Borouge's current capacity.
Borouge Group International represents a new era of scale, growth, innovation and shareholder value. The new entity intends to offer an attractive estimated total dividend of $2.2 billion post-closing of the transaction, equivalent to a minimum of 16.2 fils per share dividend, annually from 2026 to 2030. Cabinet clears ₹2,000 crore NCDC grant, ₹11,000 crore rail infra upgrade
New Delhi: The government on Thursday approved a raft of decisions aimed at boosting rural lending, expanding food processing infrastructure, and strengthening India's railway network—all with an eye on improving farm incomes and economic connectivity. The decisions were taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Among the key measures was the approval of a ₹ 2,000 crore central sector scheme titled Grant-in-Aid to the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). The scheme will run for four years, from FY26 to FY29. The enhanced capital infusion will allow the NCDC to raise roughly ₹ 20,000 crore from markets during this period. This in turn will enable the agency to scale up loans to around 2.9 crore members of 13,288 cooperative societies spanning sectors such as dairy, livestock, fisheries, sugar, textiles, food processing, storage, cold storage, labour, and women-led cooperatives. In a separate move targeting the farm sector, the Union Cabinet also cleared a ₹ 6,520 crore outlay for the ongoing Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) during the 15th Finance Commission cycle (2021–22 to 2025–26). This includes an additional allocation of ₹ 1,920 crore. Of this, ₹ 1,000 crore has been earmarked to support the creation of 50 multi-product food irradiation units under the Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure component of PMKSY. Another ₹ 920 crore has been approved for projects under various other PMKSY component schemes, including the establishment of 100 NABL-accredited food testing labs under its Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure programme. 'The implementation of the proposed 50 multi-product food irradiation units is expected to create total preservation capacity ranging from 20 to 30 lakh metric tonnes per annum, based on the type of food products irradiated under these units," said Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a press briefing after the cabinet meeting. The establishment of 100 NABL-accredited food testing laboratories in the private sector will help build advanced infrastructure for testing food samples, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and the supply of safe foods, Vaishnaw added. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs also cleared four railway infrastructure projects with a combined outlay of approximately ₹ 11,169 crore. These are aimed at increasing capacity on critical and strategic rail corridors. The approved projects include a fourth line between Itarsi and Nagpur; doubling of the Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar)–Parbhani line; and third and fourth lines on the Aluabari Road–New Jalpaiguri and Dangoaposi–Jaroli routes. The Jalpaiguri line, which passes through the strategically sensitive 'chicken's neck' corridor, is considered crucial for faster movement of passengers, goods, and military personnel. 'The increased line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, resulting in improved operational efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. These multi-tracking proposals are poised to streamline operations and alleviate congestion,' Vaishnaw said. The four projects will span 13 districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand, adding about 574 kilometers to the rail network. According to the government, the expansion will improve connectivity for approximately 2,309 villages, representing a population of about 43.6 lakh. These routes are vital for transporting key commodities including coal, cement, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, containers, agricultural goods, and petroleum products. The capacity enhancements are expected to support an additional 95.91 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of freight traffic. Officials also underscored the environmental and economic impact of rail transport, noting that the projects could help India reduce logistics costs, cut oil imports by 160 million liters, and avoid 5.15 billion kilograms of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to planting 2 billion trees.

Nvidia Executives Colette Kress and Jay Puri Join Billionaire Ranks Amid AI Stock Surge
Reuters A NVIDIA logo is shown at SIGGRAPH 2017 in Los Angeles, California, U.S. July 31, 2017. REUTERS/Mike Blake/File Photo Nvidia billionaires: The relentless rise of Nvidia has driven two of the company's top executives into the billionaire ranks, joining their boss, CEO Jensen Huang, as some of the most richly rewarded figures in tech, as per a Kress, Nvidia's Chief Financial Officer, and Jay Puri, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, have both crossed into 10-figure territory in net worth, according to Bloomberg's Billionaires Index. Their fortunes come due to their massive holdings in Nvidia stock, which has surged nearly 70% over the past year and 27% in 2025 alone, pushing the chipmaker's market cap past $4 trillion, as reported by Fortune. For Kress, the path to billionaire status is paved with patience and stock. On July 15, Kress sold just over 27,000 shares for roughly $171 apiece, raking in $4.7 million, as reported by Fortune. Yet, even after that sale, SEC filings reveal she still holds nearly 3 million shares directly, as per the Fortune report. Along with that, Kress also holds hundreds of thousands of Nvidia shares that are indirectly retained through trusts or immediate family members, according to the report. Though he directly holds around 634,000 shares, worth over $108 million, he holds more wealth via indirect ownership, as per the Fortune report. Puri controls roughly 20 million shares through various trusts, plus another 46,000 held in a children's trust under his care, according to the report. Both executives sold their shares through pre-planned Rule 10b5-1 trading plans, which are designed to prevent accusations of insider trading, as per Fortune. These plans lock in trade dates, volumes, and prices based on formulas rather than discretion, and must be executed by independent third parties, according to the Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang, whose own net worth has ballooned to $153 billion, surpassed even billionaire investor Warren Buffett, as per Fortune. Huang is famously known to be obsessed with work, he claims he can't even watch a movie without thinking about the company, but he's just as focused on rewarding those who help build it, according to the report. Huang said recently during a panel hosted by venture capitalists running the All-In podcast, saying, 'I've created more billionaires on my management team than any CEO in the world. They're doing just fine,' and added that, 'Don't feel sad for anybody at my layer. My layer is doing just fine,' quoted also revealed that he makes sure that his key personnel are being compensated appropriately and also look at all employees' pay, as reported by Fortune. Huang told the panel this month, 'I review everybody's compensation up to this day. I sort through all 42,000 employees, and 100% of the time I increase the company's spend on [operating expenses]. And the reason for that is because you take care of people, everything else takes care of itself,' as quoted in the Fortune are Nvidia's newest billionaires?Colette Kress (CFO) and Jay Puri (EVP of Worldwide Field Operations) have both become billionaires, largely due to their Nvidia stock holdings. What is Rule 10b5-1? It's a legal framework that allows executives to sell stock through pre-set plans to avoid insider trading accusations.
