Sharlene Mawdsley in mourning after tragic death of her dad (67)
Olympic athlete Sharlene Mawdsley (26) is in mourning following the tragic passing of her father Thomas (Tucker) Mawdsley (67) on Tuesday.
His passing comes just days after Sharlene competed in the third edition of Grand Slam Track in Philadelphia on Sunday, achieving a season's best.
Sharlene, who hails from Newport in Co. Tipperary competed in Michael Johnson's new athletics event and earned an impressive $15,000 after coming sixth in the long sprints category with a time of in 51.12s.

Paying tribute on RIP.ie, Athletics Ireland CEO Hamish Adams said: 'On behalf of all the Athletics Ireland family I express our sincere condolences to the Mawdsley family. Sharlene, we are here to support you during this difficult period and our thoughts and prayers are with you.'
A friend also paid tribute, he wrote: 'We had great chats over the years at soccer matches, when he was following Keith's exploits on the pitch and also over the last number of years I would meet him at Athletics Events, following his Daughter Sharlene all over the Country and Internationally.
'May he rest in peace.'
Thomas is predeceased by his father Tom and adored brother Billy. Sadly missed and forever loved by his loving partner and Sharlene's mother Louise, mother Sally, sons, daughters, grandchildren, siblings and his extended family and wide circle of friends.
Earlier this year, his daughter Sharlene competed in the mixed 4x400m relays in the first round at the World Relays in Guangzhou, China.
She was joined by her Irish teammates Conor Kelly, Rhasidat Adeleke and Cillín Greene, who combined to finish second and earn a spot in the World Athletics Championships later this year.
She also narrowly lost out on a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay event at last year's Olympic games in Paris.
Recently she was photographed with new boyfriend Tipperary hurler Michael Breen (30) from Ballina.
Thomas's remains will repose at Meehan's Funeral Home Newport in County Tipperary on Friday 6th June, 2025 from 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. with Removal to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer, Newport. Requiem Mass on Saturday 7th June at 11.30 a.m with burial afterwards in Rockvale Cemetery Newport.

Up front, Mallon's goal might have earned the plaudits, but Ailish O'Reilly, who is in pursuit of a fourth All-Ireland medal, contributed four points as well as drilling a wonderful pass to Mallon for the definitive major. ‘Irish Harry Kane' - Roma fans hail Ferguson as Ireland striker scores again
He's barely at the club a few days, but already fans of AS Roma are gushing over Evan Ferguson. The Ireland striker could hardly have asked for a better start when he scored four goals and produced one assist in a 9-0 thumping of Serie D side UniPomezia, which was played behind closed doors at the club's training ground. But Saturday's pre-season friendly away to Kaiserslautern, at a full Fritz-Walter Stadion, was always going to provide a much tougher test for the on-loan star. However, it didn't take Ferguson long to deliver. His 16th minute goal was enough to earn the Serie A side the win. And his overall performance, where he led a high press that new boss Gian Piero Gasperini brought with him from his former club Atalanta, brought him much love from the club's fantatical support base. Many took to social media to give their verdicts on the Irishman's display. Here are some of the highlights: 'Athletically not at their sharpest, as is expected at this stage of preparation, but man, I love the style of play. That man-to-man pressure, the compactness, etc ... Few risks conceded, interesting passing patterns. Ferguson is just a joy to watch!' 'Keep it up, Rome! Many Roma fans were producing Irish flag emojis - and after years of heartache, one wrote: 'Another goal from Ferguson. Is it already okay to get our hopes up?' Ferguson's arrival could spell bad news for Roma's 28-year-old Ukraine striker Artem Dovbyk. 'At 20 years old, (Ferguson) already shows character and desire. Honestly, it's very promising.
