Oman News Agency (ONA), reported that His Majesty the Sultan receives a phone call from His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during which they reviewed the developments of the worrying escalation in the region and emphasised the importance of all parties committing to self-restraint, prioritizing wisdom and dialogue, and working seriously to stop the cycle of military escalation, thus sparing the region further tension and paving the way for diplomatic solutions.
His Excellency the Iranian President expressed his deep appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman's stance and its balanced role in supporting regional security and enhancing opportunities for calm, stressing his country's commitment to cooperation to avoid further escalation in the region.

Opec+ set to make another accelerated oil output hike for August
LONDON: The world's largest group of oil producers, Opec+, is set to announce another big increase of 411,000 barrels per day in production for August as it looks to regain market share, four delegates from the group said. If the increase is agreed, it would bring the total rise in supply from Opec+ to 1.78 million bpd so far this year, equivalent to over 1.5% of total global demand. The group has not yet increased production by the volumes agreed because some members are compensating for previous overproduction and others need longer to bring output back online. The group has made a radical change in policy this year, after several years of output cuts totalling more than 5 million bpd. This came when eight members started to unwind their most recent output cut of 2.2 million bpd starting in April and accelerated the production hikes in May, June and July, despite the extra supply weighing on crude prices. The change came after some members, such as Kazakhstan, produced way over their targets, angering other members that were sticking more closely to agreed cuts. Opec and its allies including Russia, together known as Opec+, are also seeking to win back market share during the period of cuts when rival producers such as the United States boosted production. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Opec+ projects rising global demand, especially in the summer, suggesting the group may continue with big output hikes. The group of eight, which includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Kuwait, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Oman and Algeria, will meet on July 6. Analysts at Energy Aspects and Helima Croft at RBC Capital Markets expect an August hike of 411,000 bpd. "We do think the group is most likely to still go ahead with the August accelerated unwinding," said Richard Bronze, head of geopolitics at Energy Aspects. Two sources familiar with Opec+ discussions who spoke on condition of anonymity said the group may discuss a more than 411,000 bpd increase for August, although it was not clear that all members supported such a move. One complicating factor for the talks is the potential for more supply from Iran after the Israel-Iran ceasefire. US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the US had not given up its maximum pressure on Iran, but signalled a potential easing in enforcement to help the country rebuild. Oil hit a five-month high above $81 on June 23 after the US attacked Iran's nuclear facilities, only to fall back to $68 on Friday as the Israel-Iran ceasefire reduced tensions and supply risks. In April it fell to a four-year low below $60 after Opec+ said it was tripling its output hike in May and as Trump's tariffs raised concerns about global economic weakness. Opec+ pumps about half of the world's oil. As of their decision for July output, the Opec+ eight have made or announced production increases totalling 1.37 million bpd, or 62% of the 2.2 million bpd cut they are unwinding. Iran: Thousands attend funeral of IRGC commanders, nuclear scientists killed in Israeli strikes
Tehran: Thousands of Iranians gathered in Tehran on Saturday to attend the funeral procession of senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to Iranian media, The Jerusalem Post reported. Their coffins were driven into Tehran's Azadi Square adorned with their photos and national flags, as crowds waved flags and some reached out to touch the caskets and throw rose petals onto them. Iran's President Mansour Pezeshkian and Esmail Qaani, head of the IRGC's Quds Force, were present at the procession. "Today, Iranians, through heroic resistance against two regimes armed with nuclear weapons, protected their honor and dignity, and look to the future prouder, more dignified, and more resolute than ever," Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who also attended the funeral, said in a Telegram post. Authorities in Iran stated that 627 people were killed in the country, though the full extent of the damage could not be independently verified due to strict media restrictions. According to Israeli officials, 28 people were killed in Israel during the conflict. A senior Israeli military official said on Friday that more than 30 senior security officials and 11 senior nuclear scientists were killed in Iran during Israel's Operation Rising Lion, summarising the 12-day air war with Iran. The official added that the Israeli Air Force struck over 900 targets and caused significant damage to Iran's missile production capabilities during the conflict, which ended with a US-brokered ceasefire, The Jerusalem Post reported. The procession comes days after Ayatollah Khamenei congratulated the people of Iran for what he called a "decisive victory" over the US and Israel during the 12-Day War in posts on X/Twitter, and a recorded message released on Thursday. The Jerusalem Post reported that Khamenei congratulated the Iranian people and said, "With all that clamour, with all those claims, the Zionist regime, under the blows of the Islamic Republic, has almost collapsed and been crushed." Khamenei also claimed that the US intervened in the war out of fear that Israel would be destroyed without its help. He asserted that the US gained nothing from the war and received a "slap in the face." The Iranian leader warned that Iran "can take action whenever it deems necessary" and that any further aggression by its enemies would result in them "paying a heavy price." Iran deports over 88,000 afghans in one week amid rising humanitarian crisis
Kabul: More than 88,000 undocumented Afghan migrants were deported from Iran in a single week, Khaama Press reported, citing International Organisation for Migration (IOM), raising alarm over urgent humanitarian and funding needs. Between June 18 and June 26, a total of 88,308 undocumented Afghan nationals were forcibly returned from Iran to Afghanistan, according to the IOM's June 28 update. The organisation stated that only 11 per cent of these returnees received any humanitarian assistance due to critical resource limitations, calling for urgent international funding to meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable. The report further highlighted that 55 per cent of the returnees during this period were forcibly deported, and 64 per cent were travelling as families--underscoring the disproportionate impact on women and children. This figure marked a steep rise from the previous week, when 32,844 individuals were returned between June 10 and June 17. Earlier data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) showed that over 71,000 migrants were returned from both Iran and Pakistan between June 1 and June 15, underscoring the scale and continuity of expulsions. Both agencies warned of the dire health and protection challenges that await returnees in overcrowded and under-resourced border areas, Khaama Press reported. In Iran, the crackdown on undocumented Afghan nationals has intensified. Authorities have issued new orders invalidating all lease agreements with Afghan refugees and warning landlords against offering them shelter. According to Khaama Press, police have reportedly detained Afghan migrants across several provinces, with arrests increasing notably after the recent 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel. Meanwhile, Pakistan has also resumed strict enforcement against Afghan refugees, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Identity checks, detentions, and deportations have increased, often targeting families with little to no warning or legal recourse. Human rights groups have expressed concern over the ongoing mass arrests and forced returns. Both IOM and WHO have appealed for immediate international support to address the escalating refugee crisis. With deportations surging and border services overstretched, Afghan returnees face rising threats of homelessness, poverty, and deteriorating health conditions, Khaama Press reported.
