Prasidh Krishna has revealed what he told Joe Root that led to their fiery on-field spat.
Indian fast-bowler Prasidh Krishna has revealed he told England's Joe Root that he was 'looking in great shape' during the fifth Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which led to 'a lot of abuse' and an ugly on-field spat between the two. Prasidh was slammed on social media for riling up someone with as clean an image as Root, but according to the Karnataka man, even he didn't expect 'such a big reaction'.
The incident happened soon after Root came to the crease in the second innings of the Test. His face turned red after the conversation, and he hit a few boundaries against Prasidh, who responded with a couple of bouncers in anger. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena didn't take long to involve himself in it, following Prasidh like a hawk from thereon. He was heard having chats with KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill, who didn't seem pleased with being asked to control the verbal attacks.
'I don't know why Rooty [reacted]," Prasidh told the BBC's Test Match Special. 'I just said, 'You're looking in great shape,' and then it turned into a lot of abuse and all of that.
Later, at the press conference, Prasidh was asked if the plan was to distract the Englishman.
'That was the plan, but I didn't expect the couple of words I said to get such a big reaction from him," Prasidh said.
Prasidh also conceded that Root was a legend of the game.
'That's just who I am when I'm bowling, when I'm enjoying. If it means that I have a bit of a chatter with the batter… and it does help me when I can get under the nerves of the batsman and get a reaction from them. But I love the guy that he is. He is a legend of the game and I think it is great when two people are out there wanting to do the best and be a winner at a given moment," he added.
Eventually, Root got out LBW to Mohammed Siraj. England folded for 247, only 23 runs ahead of the visitors, and the third essay yielded 75/2 led by Yashasvi Jaiswal's fifty before Stumps.

Kingdom Box Office: Vijay Deverakonda starrer crumbles over the weekend, Collects 66cr worldwide in 4 days

Telugu film Kingdom had an ordinary weekend at the Indian box office with a poor trend. The Vijay Deverakonda starrer collected Rs. 47 crore approx in four days in India, while another Rs. 19 crore (USD 2.20 million) came internationally, for a worldwide weekend of Rs. 66 crore approx. The film opened decently for the cast; in fact, even the total numbers aren't bad from that pov, but the costs involved are high, which demanded a stronger opening. A strong trend over the weekend was crucial, but cracks appeared as early as Friday, and they opened wide by Sunday. The film remained flat on Saturday, and yesterday it actually dropped, which pretty much seals its fate. There will likely be a big drop today, and the film will be mostly out of cinemas within the first week. The Day Wise Box Office Collections of Kingdom in India are as follows: Kingdom is yet another FLOP from the Telugu film industry after the bombing of Hari Hara Veera Mallu just last week. The industry is having a horrific year at the box office, except for a couple of weeks of Sankranti Vashthunam during the holiday period. Vijay Deverakonda is also having a long rough patch with none of his films emerging HIT since before COVID. His last successful outing was Taxiwaala, which released back in 2018, making it seven years since he last tasted box office success. The Territorial Breakdown for Kingdom is as follows:

'Won't require surgery...': Real reason behind Jasprit Bumrah's absence from 5th Test revealed in new report

Jasprit Bumrah missed the fifth Test against England not because of workload management but for some other reason. A new report has revealed the real reason why Bumrah was released from the squad. read more Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah didn't play in the fifth and final Test match against England at The Oval, and now a new report has revealed the real reason. While many thought it was just workload management as Bumrah had previously confirmed he would play just three matches in the series, it has now come out that he had a small knee injury. Bumrah only played three out of the five Tests in the series. Before the series began, it was already planned that he would play only three games. Since there were long gaps between the matches, fans hoped he might be able to play one more. But the BCCI released him from the squad for the final Test. 'Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test,' the BCCI said in a press release. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Bumrah is suffering from knee injury? According to a report in the Times of India, a BCCI official said that Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury, which is why he has been released from the squad. The source revealed that the injury is not too serious and Bumrah won't require surgery. 'Unfortunately, Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury. The good thing is that it's not a major one and won't require surgery. The BCCI medical team is currently awaiting his scan reports,' the BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI. With the Asia Cup just a month away and the T20 World Cup scheduled early next year in India, the board wants to make sure Bumrah is fit and available for key white-ball events. It appears the decision to rest him from the Oval Test was taken to prevent the injury from getting worse, which could threaten his participation in the upcoming tournaments. 'There is an Asia Cup around the corner, the T20 World Cup is also there. He would want to play those events. Considering his body, he can't play every game. He needs to be managed with extra care. Playing him at The Oval would have been a huge risk. Going forward, there needs to be a clear plan on how to manage Bumrah's Test career,' a BCCI source told PTI.

India weigh in on early stumps call debate and whether England hold advantage on Day 5: ‘Groundstaff has been…'

The decision to call early stumps at the Oval on day four of the final Test match in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has been controversial. Several pundits have criticised the decision to extend the series when it could have been wrapped up that evening. Groundstaff cover the pitch during a downpour at the Oval.(PTI) A brief spell of rain saw covers drawn over the ground, but there was still nearly an hour and a half left in the scheduled day's play when the umpires decided to call an end for the day. However, while pundits and some former players were confused by the decision when the sun showed up and might have allowed for a few overs of play later, Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel had more sympathy for the decision. Speaking at his press conference following the day's play, Morkel tried to explain the rationale for the decision to stop play at the Oval. "It's pretty wet out there now. It was going to take a while to get the covers off. The groundstaff has been incredible throughout," Morkel said to reporters, showing grace towards the staff that Indian coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier found himself at loggerheads with. 'We'll create a little bit of excitement…' Morkel stated that the Indian team wouldn't think too much about being asked to walk off and not return despite generating some incredible rhythm and pressure in the 45-minute spell right before the covers were put on the square. Also Read: England hold massive advantage because of an unsaid rule, India pacers might be helpless on Day 5 after all "It was out of our control. Again, tomorrow, we can just focus on doing a good warm-up and get the boys to bowl in the right areas and create a little bit of excitement,' said Morkel, looking forward to the future and the morning of Day 5. While India's trio of seamers in Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna have bowled a lot of overs, they were very threatening towards the close of the day's play. As a bonus, they will have an extra evening's rest, and only a couple of overs to see through before they have access to the second new ball. They are four wickets away on the morning, with Jamie Smith the last recognised batter. However, the hosts can call on the likes of Overton and Atkinson, who are capable of seeing through the remaining 35 runs.
