NYC lawmakers say they were denied access to ICE facility at Federal Plaza
The New York Democratic lawmakers said Sunday they were denied access to the 10th floor at 26 Federal Plaza, where they say the agency is detaining people. They warned that's just one of many concerning actions in the Trump administration's deportation program.
Their attempt to get inside the building came after the NYPD clashed with protesters outside the facility on Saturday over recent ICE arrests. Police say 13 people were issued court summonses and nine were arrested and charged.

"Today, ICE violated our rights"
Immigration advocates say they have reason to believe that hundreds of immigrants are being held on the 10th floor in inhumane conditions. Espaillat and Velazquez said they attempted to tour the facility after waiting over an hour in the lobby, only to be denied access.
They walked out of Federal Plaza frustrated.
"Today, ICE violated all of our rights because, as an extension, we are here to defend your rights, the rights of the American people, to have access and oversight to the federal buildings to ensure that everything is done correctly and in accordance to the law. We were denied that right today, a basic civil right, a constitutional right that we as members of Congress are here to uphold," Espaillat said.
The two members of Congress said a deputy denied them access to an immigration holding facility.
"She said that it's an ICE facility and a sensitive facility," Espaillat said.
Lawmakers say they're worried about conditions at Federal Plaza
The representatives, along with immigration advocates, condemned recent ICE arrests at immigration hearings. They say advocates captured images which they say shows federal agents taking migrants into custody at court proceedings and ICE check-ins. They added that they're worried about the conditions migrants are facing, following reports of overcrowding, unbearable heat, and people being forced to sleep on the floor.
"Traditionally have been detained for by some hours, but not overnight or not today or not three days," Velazquez said.
CBS News New York reached out to ICE for a comment and it released a statement, saying, in part, "U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is executing the president's mission of identifying and removing criminal aliens and other individuals who have violated our nation's immigration laws."

Judge awards Vegas man custody of his brother who he believes may also be his son
A Las Vegas man's search for the truth about his family has returned inconclusive results. Logan Gifford, 26, believes his younger brother, 15, could be his son after claiming his mother Doreene Gifford began sexually assaulting him when he was 10. Doreene Gifford, was sentenced to eight to 20 years in jail after making an Alford plea, essentially a plea of no contest, on lesser charges, including attempted sex assault, 8 News Now reports. She has also registered as a sex offender, while also maintaining her innocence. Logan was 17 at the time. Earlier this year, Logan Glifford filed a paternity case asking for a judge to order an advanced DNA test to determine who the teenager's father is, the outlet reports. That test was inconclusive, however. Logan Glifford said he and his father, Theodore, could both be the teenager's biological father, after their DNA both matched 99.9% to the sibling. At a Thursday hearing, family court Judge Vincent Ochoa said that the test results were unsurprising. 'I think we should have known that was going to come out that way from the very beginning,' Ochoa said, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The judge recommended further testing to ascertain who the teenager's father was. The judge also awarded Logan Glifford temporary custody of his brother. A prior temporary guardianship would have expired Thursday, his Attorney Timothy Treffinger, told the Review-Journal. Speaking to the Review-Journal, Logan Gifford said that he would be praying over the issue, but pursuing further testing in order to get 'genetic clarity' for his brother. 'He's aware of what's going on and he understands why we're trying to get to the truth for him,' he said. 'Because this wasn't about me. This was about trying to get genetic answers for him.' A GoFundMe page set up by Gifford to help him win custody and 'protect' his brother, who he currently lives with along with his wife and stepdaughter, has raised almost $2,000. In the page description, Gifford describes the situation as 'a nightmare I never chose' and calls the idea of his brother being his son a 'haunting possibility.' 'The court process is tough, and with his cognitive struggles and our complicated family history, I need help to secure his future and give him the life he deserves,' Gifford wrote. He added that he was 'also speaking out for male survivors everywhere.' 'Growing up, I faced shame, disbelief, and a system that didn't see me—social services missed the signs and left me unprotected. Too many men suffer in silence, and I'm determined to change that,' he said. Despite the previous inconclusiveness, experts have said it is likely that further testing will provide answers for the Giffords. Arthur Beaudet, a past president of the American Society of Human Genetics, said such circumstances would require a higher level of investigation. 'This is a job not for the average lab that does paternity testing and disputes between individuals all the time,' he told the Review-Journal. 'This is a job for a top-notch expert in this area.'

5 hurt in Chicago weekends shootings, police say
At least five people were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 18 to 60. In the first shooting of the weekend, a 30-year-old man self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition after being shot in the inner thigh just before 10:30 p.m. in the 300 block of West 64th Street. Officers met with the victim at the hospital, who was uncooperative with providing information about the incident. Just before midnight, CPD officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 4300 block of West Adams Street, where they found a 19-year-old woman unresponsive. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right cheek and to the right side of the neck and was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Investigation indicated that she was shot inside a residence. Police said they've recovered a weapon, and a person of interest is in custody. In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident. CBS News Chicago will continue to update throughout the weekend.
