'We discussed ways to improve trade and economic linkages. Cooperation in FinTech, skill development, healthcare and other such sectors were also deliberated upon.'
The two nations inked four MoUs after the talks, besides announcing elevation of the ties to a Comprehensive Partnership
The MoUS included:
-MoU on Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP): To promote greater cultural understanding and exchanges in art, music, dance, literature, and heritage.
-MoU between Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) & Ghana Standards Authority (GSA): Aimed at enhancing cooperation in standardization, certification, and conformity assessment.

The MEA spokesperson said in a post on the talks:
'PM @narendramodi held wide-ranging talks with President @JDMahama of Ghana at the iconic Jubilee House, Ghana.
'Both leaders reaffirmed the warm and time-tested ties between India and Ghana, and discussed ways to expand cooperation in key areas including trade & investment, capacity building, defence & security, digital technology, UPI, agriculture, Pharma, mining, infrastructure and people-to-people ties.
'The leaders agreed to elevate the bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership. They reiterated their commitment to democratic values, Global South solidarity, South-South cooperation, and a shared vision for sustainable development & global peace.'
Secretary ER, Dammu Ravi, briefing media persons on the talks, said the two leaders first had a one-on-one meeting which was followed by delegation level talks during which they reviewed the wide spectrum of the bilateral relations.
Both the leaders acknowledged that this is a historic visit for the fact that this is taking place at the Prime Minister level from India after 30 years.
'President Mahama clearly acknowledged that it is a landmark visit that is very timely and very opportunistic at a time when Ghana is also looking for partnership with India to deepen economic engagement after its own economic rebound, recovery that it is facing having gone through the IMF conditionalities and restructuring,'
'A few ideas and proposals that President Mahama had mentioned during the discussions were cooperation in the area of agriculture; where he sought India's support, the entrepreneurs to be able to develop Ghana as a food basket, provide food security to its people. And Prime Minister Modi has agreed to support Ghana in this endeavor.
'The second item was in the area of pharma and vaccines. President Mahama is very clearly interested to create Ghana a hub for vaccines, and some development has already taken place in collaboration with the Global Vaccine Alliance and in that context, he wants Indian entrepreneurs to come and set up manufacturing units in the pharma and vaccines where India clearly has advanced its capacities.
'The third area is in the area of defense cooperation. Here again there are concerns for Ghana in terms of security, terrorism from the northern region, the Sahel region and the piracy in the seas are of concern.
'There is clear interest to have India's support in terms of support of the equipment, training of the personnel and to be able to source equipment from India which has now become very clearly a leader in defense exports.
'There was also concern for the way terrorism is affecting the world. President Mahama clearly expressed solidarity with India. He condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attacks, and he was very clear and unequivocal in his support for India and the solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
Both leaders also discussed the idea of cooperation in the area of critical minerals where President Mahama has offered India to collaborate in harnessing the critical minerals with India's investments and also processing capacities,'
On Thursday, PM Modi is to pay homage to the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who is highly respected and regarded also in India because of a longstanding friendship with India since the 60s.
Prime Minister will address the Parliament of Ghana and also address the diaspora.

IIIT-B's DIP to touch billion lives across globe
Bengaluru, July 6 (UNI) In a powerful demonstration of India's growing global footprint in digital transformation, the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIIT-B) has taken centre stage in the global Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) movement. At the 25th Convocation Ceremony held on Sunday, IIIT-B Director Prof. Debabrata Das announced that the institute's flagship innovation, the Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP), has already enabled more than 136 million digital IDs and is set to impact nearly 1 billion people across 27 countries within the next three years. Prof. Das described MOSIP as a landmark achievement—an open-source, privacy-centric digital ID system developed entirely in India but adopted globally. The platform has garnered international recognition, winning the International Future of Government Award in 2024 and the 'Champion' award at the World Summit on the Information Society in Geneva. Its ethical and scalable architecture has made it a trusted solution for governments seeking secure and inclusive identity systems. Calling it a 'homegrown R&D product from India to the world,' Prof. Das emphasized how MOSIP exemplifies India's role as a lighthouse nation in building open digital systems for public good. The institute's global DPI work is being coordinated through its Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure (CDPI), a non-profit unit working across Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. CDPI has collaborated with over 60 countries, advising on DPI architecture and strategy with a strong emphasis on data protection, user consent, and verifiable credentials. IIIT-B's impact in this field was further highlighted when Prof. Das presented the institute's DPI vision at the UN Citizen's Stack Conference in Geneva, positioning India's innovation as a model for the Global South. As an extension of the MOSIP framework, IIIT-B has also developed INJI, a next-generation data exchange and credentialing platform designed with strong privacy protections. INJI has already been adopted by four countries, with more expected to follow. Prof. Das acknowledged the crucial support from eKStep Foundation, the Gates Foundation, Pratiksha Trust and NORAD in helping the institute scale these initiatives. IIIT-Bangalore's contributions to digital governance are part of a broader portfolio of innovation across health, telecom, artificial intelligence, policy, and sustainability. In the domain of public health, the institute's E-Health Research Centre, in partnership with NIMHANS, has played a central role in the Tele-MANAS initiative of the Government of India. The mental health tele-consultation service, available via a multilingual mobile platform, has handled more than 20 lakh calls over the past year, doubling its previous reach and making critical psychological support accessible nationwide. Another major initiative is the AI for Inclusion and Innovation Initiative (A41), launched in partnership with Microsoft Research. Based at IIIT-B's Centre for Accessibility in the Global South (CAGS), the project develops large-scale digital public goods that use artificial intelligence to serve underserved communities. Supported by Microsoft Philanthropies, A41 is aimed at ensuring that frontier technologies reach the people who need them most. In the field of telecommunications, the institute's COMET Foundation has developed a 5G-Advanced base station aligned with global telecom standards, focused on the Open Radio Access Network paradigm. This technology is designed to reduce market entry barriers for small and mid-sized players in a highly concentrated industry. Looking ahead to 6G, the foundation is also working on Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) to improve connectivity, reduce energy consumption, and lower deployment costs in traditionally underserved areas. IIIT-B's expertise in data and digital policy has earned it recognition from NITI Aayog, which has designated the institute as a Lead Knowledge Institution under its State Support Mission. In this role, the institute is helping states design evidence-based policy using advanced data science tools. Even as it expands its technical and research footprint, IIIT-Bangalore continues to lead on the sustainability front. For the third consecutive year, it has received the International Green University Award, honouring its commitment to sustainable practices in line with UNESCO's Greening Education Partnership. The institute has integrated environmental awareness into its infrastructure and learning systems, reinforcing its role as a future-focused, socially responsible institution. In response to its growing national and global responsibilities, the institute's Governing Body has approved a major expansion plan, allocating Rs. 817 crore to establish a new East Campus over the next seven years. This will provide the infrastructure required to support its ambitious academic, research, and outreach goals. Established in 1998 and located in the heart of Electronics City, IIIT-Bangalore continues to set new benchmarks in education, research, and innovation. Offering specialized programs in computer science, electronics, AI, data science, and digital humanities, the institute has consistently ranked among the top private technical universities in India. Accredited A+ by NAAC and ranked 74th in the 2024 NIRF rankings, IIIT-B was also named the best private technical university by India Today. As the world moves rapidly toward building inclusive, resilient digital societies, IIIT-Bangalore's pioneering work in DPI, health tech, telecom, and AI places it at the vanguard of global change. With its blend of cutting-edge research, ethical design, and real-world deployment, the institute is helping define the future of technology in service of people—both in India and around the world. India pushes Global South priorities in Brics talks with Brazil, Russia
New Delhi: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has reaffirmed India's commitment to advancing Global South priorities, deepening strategic ties, and fostering greater cooperation within the Brics grouping. Sitharaman held bilateral discussions with her Brazilian and Russian counterparts on the sidelines of the Brics finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Rio de Janeiro, the ministry of finance said in a post on X on Sunday. In her meeting with Fernando Haddad, minister of finance of Brazil, Sitharaman 'endorsed Brazil's leadership during its Brics chairship and reiterated India's support for the group's expansion and efforts toward a multipolar global order,' according to the post. 'The two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, including, South-South cooperation, amplifying the voice of the Global South, #COP30 and climate finance issues, and engagement in regional and global forums such as the United Nations, G20, BRICS, WTO (World Trade Organization) and IBSA (India, Brazil and South Africa Dialogue Forum),' it added. India supports the agenda and priorities set by Brazil, and hopes to carry forward the outcome-oriented cooperation when India takes over the chairship in January 2026, said the Indian finance minister on X. India and Brazil, as strategic partners, share warm and cordial ties spanning multiple sectors, and are cooperating closely to further strengthen the strategic partnership, Sitharaman said. Sitharaman also met Russian finance minister Anton Siluanov. The two leaders discussed India-Russia's long-standing partnership and Sitharman also expressed gratitude for the support extended by Russian President Vladimir Putin after the Pahalgam terror attack, the finance ministry said. 'The Union Finance Minister observed that India and Russia enjoy exemplary levels of mutual trust and understanding and our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership remains resilient and steadfast,' it added. Meanwhile, Sitharaman also congratulated Russia for its successful chairship of the Brics in 2024. India will continue to leverage the Brics platform to build South-South cooperation in areas of common interest, she said. 'The two sides also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including cooperation in the financial sector, along with matters related to NDB,' the finance ministry said. The NDB, formerly the BRICS Development Bank, was established in 2014 by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to mobilize funding for infrastructure and sustainable development projects. Headquartered in Shanghai, it serves as a credible alternative to Western-led institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
