Disability screening resumes across state after 8-month freeze
The screening process had been on hold for the past eight months under the previous regime, citing certificate verification concerns.
Several thousands of physically disabled people are left in lurch due the delay in opening the slots for screening as they were unable to access any welfare benefits. The NDA govt briefly opened the window after coming into power and suspended it following objections from the senior officials.
The finance department has also escalated a complaint that huge amount is going into the hands of ineligible people in the form of welfare pensions and other benefits due to the possession of certificates.
Then, the state govt has decided to go for complete reverification of all the certificates and also disabilities by withholding the disbursement of pensions. In fact, family members of several people with more than 70-90 percent disability approached the local legislators and senior officials with a request to grant exemption from the reverification for such people on humanitarian grounds.

However, they could do little as finance department is firm on revival of pensions only after completion of the reverification.
Taking the demands from public representatives into consideration, the state govt finally directed the health department to resume screening of disabled people under Sadarem. The screening will be taken up two days a week in all designated hospitals across the state. The screening will continue for next three months.

The supplements your beauty routine is missing: Here's what your hair, skin, and nails are craving
There's a moment when we all pause in front of the mirror. Maybe it's a hair strand that fell out too easily. Or skin that looks more tired than usual. Or nails that just won't grow without peeling. It's subtle at first, but over time, we start to wonder: Am I giving my body what it really needs? While a balanced diet is always the foundation, sometimes food alone isn't enough, especially with stress, pollution, and irregular routines. That's where supplements step in. Not as magic pills, but as gentle helpers that support what your body is already trying to do. Here's a look at some of the best supplements for hair, skin, and nails and what they really do. Biotin (Vitamin B7) Biotin has become almost synonymous with hair health, and for good reason. It plays a key role in strengthening keratin, the protein that makes up your hair, skin, and nails. Low levels of biotin can lead to thinning hair or brittle nails. If you're noticing breakage or slow growth, this might be worth considering. It's water-soluble, so your body flushes out any excess, making it a low-risk option for most people. Collagen As we age, our body's natural collagen production slows down. Collagen supplements, often in powder or capsule form, can support skin elasticity and hydration. Some people also report stronger nails and even hair growth. Look for hydrolyzed collagen peptides, which are easier for your body to absorb. Vitamin C You might think of it as your go-to for immunity, but Vitamin C is also essential for healthy skin. It helps the body produce collagen and fights free radicals that cause premature aging. Plus, it brightens the skin from within and supports wound healing. If your skin feels dull or takes longer to recover from blemishes, Vitamin C can help. Omega-3 fatty acids Omega-3s, usually found in fish oil, are great for dry, flaky skin and brittle hair. They help regulate oil production and reduce inflammation, which can ease conditions like eczema or scalp irritation. If you don't eat a lot of fatty fish, a daily Omega-3 supplement can make a noticeable difference in your overall skin texture and shine. Zinc Zinc is a quiet but powerful player in skin repair and inflammation control. It's especially helpful if you struggle with acne or slow-healing blemishes. It also contributes to the health of hair follicles. Just be cautious, too much zinc can interfere with the absorption of other minerals, so stick to the recommended dose. Vitamin E Often called the 'skin vitamin,' Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that protects your skin from oxidative damage. It works well with Vitamin C and supports skin repair and hydration. Some supplements combine both, which can be a smart way to cover your bases. A few things to remember: Supplements aren't an overnight fix. Think of them as steady companions that support your goals over time. Most need consistent use for a few weeks, sometimes even months, before you notice visible results. And always talk to a healthcare provider before starting anything new, especially if you're already taking medication or have any underlying conditions. Healthy hair, glowing skin, and strong nails don't just come from what's on the outside. With the right internal support, your body can rebuild, renew, and glow more naturally. Sometimes, it just needs a little extra help. Do not use supplements as a replacement for a balanced diet or prescribed medical treatment. Use responsibly and as directed.

9 things about the liver a Harvard doctor wants everyone to know
Dr. Saurabh Sethi highlights the liver's regenerative ability but warns against irreversible damage from chronic injury caused by factors like alcohol and poor diet. He emphasizes the benefits of coffee, the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and the impact of medications and sleep on liver health. The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body, acting as a filter that processes blood and breaks down nutrients, toxins, and waste products. It also plays a vital role in metabolism, digestion, and immune function. Despite its crucial role, its health is often overlooked. Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a California-based gastroenterologist trained at Harvard and Stanford, has shared 9 critical insights about the liver that he wants everyone to understand to keep this powerhouse organ healthy. Liver regenerates The liver has a unique ability to regrow damaged cells. However, Dr. Sethi warns that it is important to understand the organ is 'not invincible'. 'It can regrow damaged cells, but chronic injury leads to scarring that can't be reversed,' he said in a post shared on Instagram. Chronic injury can be caused by alcohol, poor diet, or disease, which can lead to irreversible scarring, known as cirrhosis. Coffee is more than an indulgence Good news for coffee lovers. Your indulgence brings more than joy. It's a liver medicine. Drinking three or more cups of coffee daily is linked to a 40% lower risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer, according to studies . Dr. Sethi has advised skipping the sugar and cream to maximize benefits. 'However, be careful, individual sensitivity to caffeine varies and may cause insomnia, palpitations, or anxiety,' he cautioned. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Even non-drinkers can get fatty liver Fatty liver affects 1 in 3 adults, even non-drinkers, the liver doctor said. Liver processes everything you swallow, including meds The liver processes everything you ingest, including medications. Dr. Sethi warned that over-the-counter painkillers like acetaminophen can cause severe liver damage in high doses. 'Always confirm the correct dosage with your doctor,' he said. Sleep quality directly affects the liver repair Poor sleep affects the liver's ability to metabolize nutrients and clear toxins. Dr. Sethi has recommended getting at least seven to 9 hours of quality sleep every night to support the liver's repair processes and overall function. Liver has its own clock Dr. Sethi emphasized that the liver operates on a circadian rhythm. Hence, eating late at night can disrupt its natural detox cycle. This seemingly harmless habit can lead to fat accumulation in the liver. You are surrounded by hidden liver toxins Yes, that's right. Common household products like cleaning agents, pesticides, and even some cosmetics contain toxins that burden the liver. 'Opt for natural alternatives,' he suggested. Supplements could also harm your liver Some supplements you take, hoping to improve your health, can in fact harm your liver. Marketed as health boosters, some herbal supplements and high-dose vitamins can cause inflammation or damage the liver. Dr. Sethi has emphasized the importance of consulting a physician before starting any supplement regimen to ensure safety.
