Kostecki sets lap record for Supercars provisional pole

Yahoo13-04-2025
Brodie Kostecki has grabbed provisional pole with a lap record ahead of the weekend's final Supercars race in New Zealand.
The Dick Johnson Racing star set a time of one minute and 25.630 seconds to be fastest ahead of Sunday's top 10 shootout at Taupo International Motorsport Park, which will decide the front of the grid for the 200km finale.
He shaved 0.0703 off Kiwi racer Matt Payne's record time from qualifying on Saturday.
Matt Stone Racing's Cam Hill was second-fastest and Team 18 driver Anton De Pasquale third.
Payne, who won the weekend's opening race, made the top-10 shootout in sixth and was joined by compatriot Ryan Wood, who was fourth-fastest.
Fellow Kiwi driver Andre Heimgartner was fifth.
Walkinshaw Andretti United ace Chaz Mostert, victorious in the second 120km sprint, scraped into the shootout in ninth.
A difficult weekend continued for Triple Eight stars Will Brown and Broc Feeney.
After sub-par results for the competition heavyweights in the opening two sprints on Saturday, Feeney qualified in 20th and Brown scraped 18th by just 0.0029 seconds to survive the first portion of qualifying.
Feeney, who had been second in the running, was eliminated after pitting late in the session instead of laying another lap.
Series leader Brown did not improve enough, qualifying in 12th.
His Tickford rival Cam Waters, second in the standings, squandered his chance to make the shootout, qualifying in 18th after locking up his wheels and running off-track at turn 11.
Drivers will return at 10.50am (AEST) for the top-10 shootout before the 10th race of the Supercars season gets underway at 1.05pm.
RACE 10 QUALIFYING RESULTS AHEAD OF TOP 10 SHOOTOUT:
1. Brodie Kostecki (Dick Johnson Racing)
2. Cam Hill (Matt Stone Racing)
3. Anton De Pasquale (Team 18)
4. Ryan Wood (Walkinshaw Andretti United)
5. Andre Heimgartner (Brad Jones Racing)
6. Matt Payne (Grove Racing)
7. Thomas Randle (Tickford Racing)
8. Kai Allen (Grove)
9. Chaz Mostert (WAU)
10. James Golding (PremiAir Nulon Racing)

How to watch Australia vs British & Irish Lions Test 2: Live stream rugby for FREE

Australia and the British and Irish Lions face off at the MCG on Saturday in a potential series decider. The tourists hammered the Wallabies last weekend, but the hosts were a far cry from full strength and there have been one or two signs of complacency from Andy Farrell's men. You can watch Australia vs Lions Test 2 live streams from anywhere with a VPN and potentially for FREE. The Australia vs Lions Test 2 live stream takes place on Saturday, July 26.• Time: 6 a.m. ET / 3 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. BST / 8 p.m. AEST• FREE STREAM — 9Now (Australia)• U.S. — CBS via Fubo or Paramount Plus• U.K. — Sky Sports• Watch anywhere — try NordVPN 100% risk free Farrell rounded on his players for treating the midweek encounter with the First Nations & Pasifika XV like an exhibition game, and they nearly paid the price. Henry Pollock clearly didn't get the memo, as he's already bigging up this Lions team as the best ever. The Invincibles of 1974, who played 22 games in 10 weeks, winning 21 and drawing the other, may have something to say about that. Australia, remember, only had one game to prepare for the series, and were down several key men for the opener. The Wallabies' first-choice fly-half Noah Lolesio is out of action entirely, which means Tom Lynagh makes his second ever international start at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, lock Will Skelton and flanker Rob Valetini have returned to beef up the starting XV. Len Ikitau and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii have pledged to be braver on the ball. Farrell has been picking his centers in pairs, but Garry Ringrose's withdrawal from the XV means Bundee Aki is instead partnering Huw Jones. Along with Ellis Genge and Sione Tuipulotu, Jones was one of the Lions' standout performers in last weekend's 27-19 victory. Genge has been replaced by Andrew Porter, while Tuipulotu misses out through injury. Meanwhile, Owen Farrell has been selected on the bench after not originally being a part of the touring squad. What's Your Favorite Supercar?

Supercars (or, if you fancy, hypercars) are a lot like pornography--there's no set definition for one, but you know it when you see it. Sick styling, bonkers power, and 0-60 times designed to rip the faces of their rich owners are all the markers of a truly great supercar. And there are so many truly great supercars out there. From the original widow-maker, the Dodge Viper SRT-10, and the ultimate childhood-bedroom poster car the Lamborghini Countach to more modern examples, like the Audi R8 and the Porsche GT3 RS, there are plenty of examples of amazing cars -- with sky-high MSRPs, too. Which one most moves you? Read more: These Are The Cars Our Readers Wish Would Depreciate Faster My Pick I've never really considered myself a Porsche girly, at least, not when compared to the likes of Brad Brownell (an impossible standard that I hold myself to anyway) but there's just something about the Porsche GT3 RS that makes me want to drive stupid fast while howling at the sky like a feral beast. It comes with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat six engine pumping out 518 horsepower with 342 pounds-feet of torque for a 0-60 time of just three seconds. Is it the most powerful supercar around? No. Is it the fastest? Certainly not. But it comes with immense downforce and all the well-tuned driving dynamics that can only come from a driving-experience obsessed automaker like Porsche. Plus, and this is the most important part, it just looks so stupid cool. I want to drive one so badly, but I also don't trust myself in a car like this with its 184-mile-per-hour top speed. I fell in love with this car when it came out in 2023, and still haven't lost any of the lust I carry for this supercar version of the 911. Want more like this?
