Round-table vows to fight against old bus stand land transfer
As part of this resolve, a dharna is slated for August 6 at the Old Bus Stand. The meeting also announced the formation of an 'RTC Assets Protection Committee,' with Sunkara Rajendra Prasad (SRP), national working president of AILU, elected as its convener. This proposal was put forth by Donepudi Kasinath, State leader of AP Urban Citizens Federation and unanimously approved by the attendees.
The roundtable, held at Balotsav Bhavan in Vijayawada on Thursday, was presided over by MV Anjaneyulu, secretary of the Taxpayers Association.
Former Minister Vadde Sobhanadriswara Rao asserted that the 'auctioning of government assets is against the law.' He called for a combined legal and public struggle against GO 137, which he termed 'unfortunate and wrong.' He highlighted that the 4.5 acres of the Old Bus Stand, valued at hundreds of crores, along with 14 acres of RTC land in Visakhapatnam, are being given away to the foreign multinational company 'Lulu' at an extremely low price.
Former Mayor Dr Jandyala Sankar expressed worry that the sale of government land, including valuable RTC properties, to private companies for mere monetary gain disregards environmental protection and public welfare.
Sunkara Rajendra Prasad (SRP) stated that legal and public struggles are crucial against the coalition government's move to hand over lakhs of acres of agricultural land, alongside RTC properties, to corporate and large companies, all against public opinion.
Chigurupati Babu Rao, State Convener of AP Urban Citizens Federation, called for a broad-based united movement involving intellectuals, prominent citizens, RTC unions, other civic bodies, and various sections of society to protect the Vijayawada Old Bus Stand and other RTC properties, ensuring the survival of small and medium-scale traders. He emphasised that selling the RTC land to Lulu is tantamount to selling Vijayawada city itself.
Damodar, from the RTC Employees Union (EU), Sundaraiah, State President of the SWF, Laxman Reddy, leader of the Janachaitanya Vedika, Konakalla Vidyadhara Rao, former president of the Chamber of Commerce, Venkateswara Reddy (Hotels Owners Association), K Keshav Rao (Farmers' Association State leader), Sampara Srinivas (AILU District Secretary), Murahari (RTC Pensioners' Association leader), V Sambireddy (Taxpayers Association leader), and Bhavani Prasad expressed their commitment to participating in the movements organised by the RTC Protection Forum.

Union opposes land transfer to Lulu Group
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTDC) RTC Employees Union has strongly demanded that the state government immediately withdraw the GO MS No 137, which allocates approximately 4.15 acres of prime RTC land in Vijayawada to Lulu Group for the construction of a commercial shopping mall. The allotted land includes properties belonging to Governorpet 1 & 2 RTC depots, the old bus stand, and a municipal park developed during the previous TDP government. The land value is estimated to be worth nearly Rs 400 crore and located in the heart of the city. To protest the decision taken by the government and to create awareness among employees, a gate meeting was held on Friday at the Governorpet depots. Addressing the gathering, Y Srinivasa Rao, Zonal Secretary of the RTC Employees Union, Vijayawada Zone, said the RTC had purchased the land in 1959. The precious land was used to serve the RTC and the bus passengers. He condemned the state government's move to hand over the valuable public asset to private parties. The EU leader announced that efforts are underway to form a Joint Action Committee (JAC) within RTC to mount pressure on the government to cancel the GO. He said, 'We have already reached out to unions such as NMUA and SWF and will continue to struggle to safeguard RTC's assets.' He urged employees to remain prepared for future protests.

MP R. Krishnaiah Accuses Congress of Betrayal on BC Reservation Promises
Hyderabad: Member of Parliament and BJP leader R. Krishnaiah made strong accusations against the ruling Congress government. He alleged that the government had deliberately neglected the welfare of the Backwards Classes (BC) despite its commitments made in the Kamareddy BC Declaration. Addressing the media on Friday, Krishnaiah criticised the Congress for failing to implement the promised 42% BC reservation. He claimed that the party was shifting responsibility by blaming the central government and the BJP. He pointed out that under Constitutional Amendments 73 and 74, specifically Clause 243D(6), state governments have the authority to decide local body reservations, which means the current Congress-led government could act immediately. He further alleged that the Congress was falsely claiming that the BJP had blocked the reservation bill, despite the BJP's declared support for also mentioned that no Government Order (GO) has been issued, even after the Assembly approved the measure. According to Krishnaiah, reservations should be based on caste professions rather than religion; he argued that including Muslims undermines the genuine representation of BC communities. Krishnaiah referenced past injustices, such as the diversion of 4% central BC reservation to Muslims under the UPA government, and condemned religious-based quotas. He cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's views, emphasising that reservations should specifically address caste-based discrimination. He commended the Modi government for conducting a national caste census, granting constitutional status to the National BC Commission, and launching initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana to support caste professions. He also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for questioning the Prime Minister's identity concerning BC interests. Krishnaiah called on all BC leaders and groups to participate in a Mahadharna at Indira Park on August 2, demanding the implementation of the Kamareddy Declaration and exposing what he claimed were Congress's double standards. Krishnaiah stated that the Congress government lacks sincerity and transparency, asserting that only the BJP is genuinely committed to the empowerment of Backwards Classes.

Tamil Nadu govt. urges Madras HC to exempt ‘Ungaludan Stalin' and ‘Nalam Kaakum Stalin' schemes from prohibitory order
The Tamil Nadu government has approached the Madras High Court urging it to clarify that its interim order prohibiting the use of the name of any living personality in the nomenclature of government schemes would not be applicable to 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakum Stalin' schemes. Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Sunder Mohan on Thursday (August 3, 2025) accepted a request made by Advocate General P.S. Raman for an early hearing of the modification petition since the Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme was all set to be launched across the State on Saturday (August 2, 2025). The judges said, the petition, if filed by Friday, would be taken up for hearing on Monday (August 4, 2025). Within a couple of hours, a modification plea was filed by the State government in the High Court Registry along with a detailed affidavit sworn by Public department secretary Reeta Harish Thakkar. The affidavit said the public outreach programme titled 'Ungaludan Stalin' had been in operation for quite sometime now and even the public interest litigation petitioner Shanmugam, in whose case the interim order was passed, had not sought any ex-parte interim order against that scheme. Similarly, a Government Order for the Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme, aimed at taking healthcare to the doorsteps of the beneficiaries, was issued on June 3, 2025 itself, the Public Secretary said, and contended that only the launch was scheduled to be held on August 2, 2025 by conducting health camps in all districts. Further, stating that the pamphlets, brochures, application forms and other related documents for the scheme had already been printed, Ms. Thakkar said, enormous efforts taken to launch the scheme on Saturday would go waste if the prohibitory interim order was made applicable to it. 'The scheme has been introduced in the name honourable Chief Minister who is a constitutional authority and it cannot be construed to have been introduced in the name of a political personality. Usage of photos of former Chief Ministers is also not expressly prohibited by the Supreme Court,' her affidavit read. Stating that the government was prepared to contest the main PIL petition by filing a detailed counter affidavit, the secretary said: 'The present petition is being filed for the limited purpose of seeking clarification so that the order may not be applicable to the Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme that is being launched tomorrow.'
