Texas Gov. Greg Abbott compared those asking who was to blame for the deadly flood in Kerr County last weekend to a losing football team. During a press conference Tuesday afternoon in which Abbott said 110 people were confirmed dead and 161 were still missing, the Republican governor took issue with a reporter's phrasing when he asked if there would be an investigation into 'who is to blame,' as there was for the 2022 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. 'Know this: that's the word choice of losers,' replied Abbott. 'Let me explain one thing about Texas, and that is Texas—every square inch of our state—cares about football.'

Fox Sports in talks to add Dave Portnoy to 'Big Noon Kickoff', Barstool on FS1

Fox Sports will reportedly add to its "Big Noon Kickoff" desk for the upcoming college football season. According to multiple reports, Fox Sports is in talks to add Barstool founder and media personality Dave Portnoy to its college football pregame show lineup, featuring Urban Meyer, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Mark Ingram, Chris Fallica and Rob Stone. The deal, which reportedly not been finalized yet, would also include Barstool content airing on Fox Sports 1. REQUIRED READING: College football mimicking NFL playoff format would be foolish The idea of Portnoy joining "Big Noon Kickoff" would be a big swing by Fox Sports, given his popularity on his social media platforms, which includes his One Bite Pizza reviews. The reported deal comes two days after The Athletic reported a lineup shakeup at Fox Sports, which included the removal of Joy Taylor and her show, 'Speak" — along with "Breakfast Ball" and "The Facility" — from the network's weekday lineup. The hire would mirror a programmatic strategy by ESPN, which added retired NFL punter-turned-media personality Pat McAfee to the network's "College GameDay" lineup. Portnoy, a Michigan graduate, would not be new to the college football world or the pregame show platform, should the deal become finalized: He is a part of Barstool Sports' eponymously named "Barstool College Football Show." "Big Noon Kickoff" is set to travel to Columbus Ohio Stadium to kick off the upcoming 2025 college football season for Ohio State vs. Texas in Week 1 on Saturday, Aug. 30. Mavericks forward rushes to defense of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant

As a second-generation player, Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson is well-versed when it comes to NBA history. Following a recent ranking of the league's best players ever, the veteran marksman rushed to the defense of one of his generation's greatest talents. In Bleacher Report's updated rankings, Kobe Bryant finds himself just outside the top 10 at No. 11. Some of the players just ahead of him include Steph Curry, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, and Tim Duncan. With a loaded resumé from his two-decade-long career with the Lakers, Kobe is a player many have been outraged with. As people in and around the league discuss this all-time list, Thompson decided to enter the conversation on social media. He made a series of posts on his Instagram story about how people are undervaluing Kobe's impact on the game. "The level of Kobe disrespect is crazy to see," Thompson wrote on Instagram. "In what world is he number 11 all time? But this has really been getting out of hand for some time now." As a native of California, Kobe is someone Thompson likely watched heavily as he made his own rise in the sport. He eventually got the square off against the Lakers legend during the first five years of his career with the Golden State Warriors. Years later, he is now defending Kobe's case among basketball's greatest talents. In terms of what he accomplished, a case can certainly be made for Kobe to be in the top ten instead of just missing the cut. He ended his career in 2016 with a list of accolades that includes being a five-time champion, 18-time All-Star, one-time MVP, two-time Finals MVP, two-time scoring champion, and earning 15 All-NBA nominations.

Guardians should cut ties with Carlos Santana at MLB trade deadline

The Cleveland Guardians are a team that's been at the center of various trade rumors over the past month. At the start of June, they were rumored to be buyers, but now, they'd been dubbed as sellers. While Steven Kwan and Emmanuel Clase are doubtful to be moved, the Guardians could ship off some of their other veterans. Zack Meisel of The Athletic laid down the case for the Guardians to move on from multiple players, but none make more sense than Carlos Santana. "The Guardians could seek a taker for impending free agents such as Carlos Santana or Lane Thomas," Meisel writes, "If the Guardians move Santana at the deadline, that would clear a spot for Kayfus, who has earned a look." A huge reason why the Guardians would need to move Santana to call up C.J. Kafus is that the team has a preferred spot for the top prospect to play once he's up in the majors. "The team would prefer him at first base instead of promoting him to try to handle right field," Meisel writes, "Where he's been a work in progress." MORE: Guardians could trade injured Cy Young Award winner at MLB trade deadline Playing Kafus in his more natural position would be ideal, and the best way to do that this season would be by moving on from Santana at the deadline. Teams around baseball are looking for first basemen help, so the Guardians could find a taker for Santana. While teams could be interested in the first baseman, there's a high chance the return for the 335 home run slugger isn't a lot. But, for the 39-year-old, any return would be a positive one. The 16-year veteran has played with the Guardians for 11 years of his career, and could be looking to head to a new team at the deadline this season. He's the player Cleveland is most likely to move, and would be an expected trade at this year's deadline. While losing a fan favorite and franchise icon would sting, it'd open the door for Kayfus to make his MLB debut, while also allowing Santana to try and win his first World Series in his incredible career.
