Van Halen's David Lee Roth, 70, Spotted in Rare Outing in L.A.
He kept a low profile in a pair of brown Carhartt overalls and a tan baseball cap
The 70-year-old rock legend's L.A. outing came nearly two months after he performed his first solo concert in five years and announced a summer 2025 tourDavid Lee Roth was spotted making a rare public outing in Los Angeles last week.
On June 26, the Van Halen star, 70, was photographed leaving a building. He kept a low profile in a pair of brown Carhartt overalls, a brown work jacket and brown cowboy boots. The rock legend — once known for his long hair and often going shirtless on stage — also wore a tan baseball cap and had a colorful bandana tied around his neck.
Roth's L.A. outing came nearly two months after he performed his first solo concert in five years at the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland, on May 3. His set list for the gig exclusively featured Van Halen classics.
That same day, Roth surprised fans by announcing a summer tour that is set to kick off on July 22 in Paso Robles, Calif., and wrap in Napa, Calif., on Sept. 14. He will also make stops in Florida, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Oklahoma and more states.
Back in October 2021, Roth announced his intention to retire from music. He said he would be ending his career with five shows at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in January 2022.
"I am throwing in the shoes. I'm retiring," Roth told the Las Vegas Review-Journal at the time. "This is the first, and only, official announcement. You've got the news. Share it with the world."
He added, "I'm not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows."
In the summer of 2021, he had been on the road, touring with Van Halen. He rejoined the band — best known for hits including "Jump," "Hot for Teacher" and "Why Can't This Be Love" — in 2006 after a split of more than 20 years.
Roth, who was just days away from celebrating his 67th birthday at the time, also told the outlet that he was "compelled to really come to grips with how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter."
"I've given you all I've got to give. It's been an amazing, great run, no regrets, nothing to say about anybody," he said of his impending retirement, adding, "I'll miss you all."

Despite the big retirement announcement, Roth didn't stay away from music for long. He later released a series of newly recorded versions of several Van Halen hits, recorded in 2022.
During his May 3 concert in Maryland, Roth alluded to his supposed retirement — with a playful nod to an iconic film.
"We've reached the end of my first retirement," he joked to the crowd, per Ultimate Classic Rock. "How many retirements did Rocky have, nine?"

How To Vote During ‘Love Island USA' Season 7 — And When Voting Opens And Closes
LOVE ISLAND USA — Episode 727 — Pictured: (l-r) Clarke Carraway, Nicolas "Nic" Vansteenberghe, ... More Cierra Ortega, Taylor Williams, Jose "Pepe" Garcia-Gonzalez, Ace Green — (Photo by: Ben Symons/Peacock via Getty Images) Get ready to gather around the firepit — another recoupling, dumping and the fourth vote of Love Island USA Season 7 are going down tonight. With the finale fast approaching and $100,000 on the line, every vote counts more than ever. The first recoupling vote led to the dramatic breakup of Huda and Jeremiah. The second left six Islanders vulnerable, ultimately resulting in the dumping of Hannah and Jeremiah. Last week, a public vote sent five of America's least favorite Islanders packing: Andreina, Austin, Gracyn, Jaden, Taylor and TJ. Now, it's time for viewers to have their say once again. Ahead of Episode 30, there are five couples remaining: Ace and Chelley, Amaya and Zak, Chris and Huda, Cierra and Nic and Clarke and Taylor. Meanwhile, Bryan, Iris, Elan, Olandria and Pepe are single. Amaya is a hot commodity in the villa, based on tonight's first-look teaser, with both Bryan and Elan eager to explore a connection with America's sweetheart. Something could also be brewing between Iris and Pepe, and Zak and Olandria, too. So, who could be getting axed tonight before the public vote? Unfortinately, multiple Islanders could be saying goodbye. 'Any boy that's not in a couple will be leaving the Island tonight,' host Ariana Madix said in Sunday's teaser, likely leaving Amaya to decide the fate of Bryan, Elan and Zak. One Islander who isn't safe from the vote is Cierra, who has come under fire from fans after an old social media post allegedly containing a derogatory slur resurfaced. The controversy follows the removal of another original Season 7 contestant, Yulissa, who was quickly axed from the show after it was revealed she had used a racial slur on podcasts (she later posted an apology). Cierra was also noticeably absent from the first-look teaser for tonight's episode, suggesting that producers may be working behind the scenes to navigate the situation.
