No Williamson, Conway In New Zealand's T20I Squad For Tri-Series In Zimbabwe
Mitchell Santner will captain New Zealand in the T20I tri-series starting July 14 at Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
The New Zealand cricket board took to X on Thursday (June 26) to announce the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe. The Kiwis will face hosts Zimbabwe and South Africa in the tri-series starting July 14 in Harare. Spin bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner will lead the Black Caps, and the squad also features the likes of his Mumbai Indians teammate Bevon Jacobs, MI New York all-rounder Michael Bracewell, Rachin Ravindra, and Finn Allen, among others.
Legendary batter and former captain Kane Williamson, however, continues to remain absent from the squad, whereas Chennai Super Kings opener Devon Conway was ignored by the selectors.
Williamson last played a T20I match for New Zealand in Tarouba on June 17, 2024, against Papua New Guinea.
According to a release shared by Black Caps, 'Kane Williamson wasn't included after making himself unavailable for selection."
Fast bowlers Lockie Ferguson, Ben Sears, and Kyle Jamieson will also miss the tri-series due to various reasons, but Adam Milne is back in the T20I team.
'Pace bowlers unavailable for selection for this tour were Ben Sears (side injury), Lockie Ferguson (load management), and Kyle Jamieson—who is awaiting the birth of his first child," the release stated.
Milne will bolster the pace bowling stocks alongside the world No. 1 T20I bowler Jacob Duffy and the Canterbury trio of Matt Henry, Will O'Rourke, and Zak Foulkes.
Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell are two specialist batters in New Zealand's squad, and they will have the support of all-rounders Rachin, Glenn Phillips, and Bracewell.
Ish Sodhi, who is New Zealand's second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, will join Santner as the other specialist spinner.

'I think we've got a really strong squad for this tour, and I'm looking forward to getting the team together and getting into the work," New Zealand's new head coach Rob Walter said.
'We've got some good experience in the side, and it's nice to be able to welcome back a few of the players who missed the March series against Pakistan because of the IPL. It should be a great T20 Tri Series with South Africa, who are a very strong side, and Zimbabwe, who play well at home in their own conditions."

Bengaluru stampede: CAT quashes IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash's suspension order
The Bengaluru bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has annulled the Karnataka government's suspension of Inspector General of Police-rank IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash over the June 4 cricket stadium stampede, which resulted in the death of 11 Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans who had gathered to celebrate the cricket team's IPL victory. Vikash had challenged the June 5 suspension order, where he, along with Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda, an officer of the rank of additional director general of police who was due to be promoted to the rank of director general of police, and deputy commissioner of police Shekar H Tekkannavar, were suspended. The CAT tribunal comprising Justice B K Shrivastava and Santhosh Mehra, which had reserved its orders on June 24, allowed the challenge on Tuesday during the pronouncement of its orders. 'The CAT has allowed the petition and quashed the order of suspension against Vikash Kumar. The tribunal has said that he is eligible for all requisite benefits,' Dhyan Chinappa, Vikash's advocate, said following the orders. The tribunal has also said that the orders in Vikash's case can be considered by the state government in the case of the two other suspended IPS officers as well. The CAT order is expected to facilitate the return of the three suspended IPS officers to the police department. On June 5, the Karnataka government suspended Dayananda, Vikash, Tekkannavar, C Balakrishna, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cubbon Park, and A K Girish, Police Inspector, Cubbon Park, over the June 4 cricket stadium tragedy. Though the RCB CEO had informed Dayananda on June 3 about holding a victory parade and celebrations on June 4, 'the office of Police Commissioner failed to give written reply to the organizers, rejecting the permission on the grounds of lack of time to prepare for such a huge event', the government's suspension order of June 5 stated. The conduct of the IPS police officers was 'in gross violation of AIS (Conduct) Rules and that of the ACP and PI is in gross violation of Karnataka State Police (Disciplinary Proceedings) Rules, 1965,' the order further stated. The suspensions of the police officers had dealt a blow to the morale of the police department since the Karnataka government was also involved in organising the felicitation for the RCB team. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later told senior police officers that he was only informed about one death. 'If the senior officers had given us the correct information immediately, the stadium programme could have been cancelled,' Siddaramaiah said at a senior police officers meeting on June 27 while referring to two events held on June 4 to felicitate the RCB at the government headquarters at the Vidhana Soudha at 4 pm and later at 5 pm at the M Chinnaswamy cricket stadium.

Lalit Modi's petition in SC brings to fore ED probe
New Delhi: Financial irregularities allegedly committed in the conduct of IPL's season 2 in South Africa in AprMay 2009 have come back to haunt the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) with then IPL chairman Lalit Modi urging the Supreme Court ask the cricket board to pay Rs 10 crore penalty on his behalf to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Modi has blamed the board for all its decisions and liabilities related to the league. IPL-2 was organised in South Africa in Apr-May 2009 (concluded on May 24) after the Union home ministry, citing Lok Sabha polls expressed its inability to provide security for the T-20 contests across the country. The ED, during an investigation found financial irregularities in the conduct of the IPL-2, and claimed that BCCI and its office bearers violated foreign exchange rules and carried out transactions without informing the RBI. Though a case of FEMA violation was filed in Nov 2011, matters rested there until April 2015 when ED decided to start the adjudicating proceedings, and 11 notices were served to BCCI and its officials for personal hearings. In the show cause notices, ED accused BCCI of violating RBI guidelines and FEMA rules by remitting Rs 243 crore to Cricket South Africa (CSA), allegedly without the required permission from the central banker. These remittances were made by BCCI to CSA to 'meet the expenses incurred by them on behalf of BCCI for the conduct of IPL' from its bank account at State Bank of Travancore, Jaipur branch. 'The requisite instructions for the transfer of funds for first two remittances were given by BCCI to their bank on March 28, 2009, which was prior to the signing of the agreement with CSA. Similarly, the last two remittances were made after the conclusion of the tournament, out of which, the last remittance of $1,03,62,799 was made as late as 15 months after the conclusion of the tournament,' adjudicating authority of FEMA noted. The ED probe further revealed payments of Rs 44 crore by BCCI which remained 'unaccounted and unexplained by BCCI' resulting in imposition of penalty. These payments were made to an alleged 'proxy' account maintained by the BCCI in SA in violation of FEMA rules, according to the case proceedings.
